I just bought my 2001 last night - rode it home 90 miles and wanted to do some carb work. Looks like the seat needs to come off before the tank. I have read the instructions in the owners manual - push down on lock with thumb and slide seat forward - I have spent 30 minutes trying this with no luck. It is like the seat cover is too thick to feel the lock. I gather it is in the middle of the seat. What am I doing wrong? Any tips appreciated.

Thanks.

HLD

The latch is under the seat (in the 'wheel well'), just behind the battery, in front of the plastic bodywork. Its tricky the first time you do it.
Sometimes due to maladjustment of the seat latch it may seem impossible to unlatch. ONLY pull up on the rear part of the seat. Pulling up on the front is likely to break the front seat tab. Sometimes you need to push down on the seat to get it to free up.
