Should I have the run/off switch on the right side of the handle bar on or off? I'm trying to static time my bike and heres what happens. before the single notch comes into the inspection hole the led turns on and when the notch is perfectly centered the light does not go out. what do I do from here? thanks p.s. im doing this with the ignition on and the on off swith on also

From Swampy:

There are two timing marks

When rotating your engine forward the first one you will see is the 2 dots, that is used for setting ignition timing while running.

The second one you will see is a line, that is TDC.

When static timing the Blast, the LED is just going off when the Line (TDC) is centered in the window. (Engine rotating forward)

The ignition module does the rest.

I tried moving the ignition module till the light turns on and i got a backfire from the exhaust, then i tried turning it till the light goes off but my battery was dead I have it charging now and will try it today. Thanks for the info guys.

WARNING: Remove spark plug or disconnect spark plug wire. With the spark plug still in its very difficult to get the engine at TDC on the compression stroke because the engine wont want to stay there and will fight you.
Backfiring through the exhaust indicates your exhaust valve is open and timing is 180 degrees off (or not on the compression stroke). Turn the crankshaft over once. Had it been on the compression stroke there is a very good chance the engine would have started up: (
My guess is you probably had to turn the ignition module quite a bit to get the LED to light up?

Were you able to open up the static timing instructions above?

If everything was done correctly and the exhaust valve is open, then you have a different problem.

Yeah I think I was on the wrong stroke. I was trying to do it myself by rolling the bike like an idiot in my driveway. Today I'll have my dad help me, the only thing is now I'm confused since there is two ways to do it, (LED coming on or going off at the TDC on a compression stroke) just to be clear my bike is a 2001 and i have the old ignition - #32687-00Y so my question is with the old module is the LED supposed to go on or off at the TDC? thanks

UPDATE
So I re-timed the bike by taking the tank off and spinning the wheel until I could see the top of the piston. Then I lined up the TDC in the center of the window and rotated the module until the LED went OFF. The bike started on the first revolution and did not back fire from the exhaust when letting off the throttle. I went for a ride and the bike felt smoother and more powerful, no choking or popping from the carb. Thanks for all the help guys.

The only way to get it to ignite on the wrong stroke is if you put the module in up-side-down. Just thought I'd throw that in.
