Welcome Dave! Like the light up high-better visibility.

Wardo: Call 1-800-Club Hog and wait until you hear the prompts for # 2=Harley Davidson finance and insurance. They'll find you a good deal and no you dont have to be a Hog member to use the service. They just saved my friend $500yr and cut my bill in half 2 years ago (and I stayed with my insurance broker and company).

Thanks gearhead, i have it all set now. Found out it was high because i was changing the bike on my current policy, which still has a DUI on it. All i had to do was cancel it and start a new one. Yay for not drinking and driving.

I finally have gotten the new blast out. I am having a little problem with the idle. I start it in the morning and it starts and idles fine. When I am ready to come home from work I start it up and it will idle for about 30 seconds and then die. It will start back up, but I have to give it a little throttle till it warms up. NO problems after about two minutes. I was thinking a 1/4 turn on the idle screw would fix it. Thinking about it a little longer I am not sure if this will work. Any ideas?

Side note: I was getting ready to turn the idle up, when I took off the seat I noticed an exposed wire from the battery tender pulled out of the battery and was up against the rear shock. I reattached it to the battery and decided to wait on the idle screw, because this might have been the problem. check one thing at a time!

Thanks for the help!

Glenn

Possible clogged idle jet too. I used to have a very similar issue, I replaced the stock idle jet with a 48, and now it idles great. For full disclosure I have the Buell Pro-Series intake and exhaust. If you are full stock, maybe just use the 45. BTW new jets are like $7 at your dealer.

Hey guys. I have been reading this website for the longest time. I bought my Blast back in December, its an 03 with about 4500 miles on it, and I was reading this site long before that. Right now I am having a problem with the starting of it after sitting for a long time.

Me and my buddy have tried things like, cleaning the carburetor, rejetting the bike, clean fuel. Wendesday we were able to get it started but it wouldn't stay started for very long. It wouldn't stay on unless we revved it and even then it died after a while. So, I was wondering where else could we look.

My guess is plug, jet, or boot. When you took the carb on/off check to see if the boot is tight on both clamps. Did you drain out all of the old gas?

Welcome Geh and Dk1090!

Make sure you have fresh gas in your bike, make sure you have a clean 45 primary jet in the carb, and while you are in there make sure you have a clean 168 or so main jet. It really helps how your bike idles to have your idle air adjustment screw properly set.
If everything else is good....spark plug, tight spark plug boot and good intake boot, you should be good to go.
Good luck, let us know how it goes!

i took my first spill today. i was rideing up from the bottom of a T intersection making a left to the top of the T and went a little wide. Almost to the white line and there was road salt, i slide onto the shoulder and rode the slide on to the dirt. Almost saving it, but i used just a tad to much front brake and the rear tried to pass the front. I was only going 5-10 mph at the time but the mud made it impossible to stay upright.
I only broke the left turn signal and rubber washers to the fly screen. I bent the brackets back into shape. I am going to call Buell of Frederick (BWB sponcer) to get the parts + gaskets to install the cams.

Well Crackhead, good thing you weren't injured. Maybe you'll be feeling some pain later on, as you probably used muscles you didn't know you had in efforts to keep the bike upright.

Still, it must've hit pretty hard to require cam replacement.

oh, the cam replacement is the pro series cams. i figured while the bike was down I would install them. The only place I hurt is my left calf from the bike landing on it and my left shoulder is sore. But there is no bruising and i was wearing ATGATT.

I tared the bike down last night and i am waiting for Buell of Frederick to call me back with the $ on parts.
The only annoying thing about the crash was the shifter rotated around and i couldn't up shift, so i put the bike in 3rd gear and slipped the heck out of the clutch.

I am hoping to have the bike done by next Monday. Since i am off work.

Crackhead,
Quick recovery!
Make sure you check the oil pump drive gear for wear, being a 2006 you probably have a better gear then the earlier ones but just check for wear anyways while you are in there.

it didn't look like it had any wear, but "do it once and do it right" is my way of thinking.
if only i could fine the SE ignition for cheep.

The only problem i had in disassembly is the cams stayed with the cam cover, and i forgot to turn the crank to timing mark through the hole. it looks like i am 180 off. i should be able to turn the crank when i get home though. i need to go by the hardware store and get 3/8"? rod and a pair of jack stands.

Oh to get the rocker cover/box off, you just have to lower the top front engine mount i will post pics but the 2 bolts are backed out just below the top of the castle nuts.
then snipe the wire ties on the back bone and wiggle the cover off then rocker box

Crackhead....don't forget that the limiting factor for rpm is the valvesprings....the stockers are only good for the stock rev limit....so if you change ignitions and set the rev limit up, you need to change springs...or...Boom!

valve springs are easy to do. i think i can fir the valve spring compressor between the head and backbone. but i am not going to bother untill i get a ignition or just go the microsquirt route.

yep i am doing good. my neck was tight last night, but i am doing good.
i think i am going to do the 1/2"x8" carriage bolt for lifting the rear. I might be able to put the bolts through a pair of old pin style stands, that way the bike can't roll off.

Do the rod the same way, slipping it through the old pin holes.

Take care of your neck. If it lasts more than a week, seek additional care. Lest a minor problem turns into a permanent one.

Got home from Daytona Bike Week last night. Had way to much fun! The weather was great for the most part, we only had 3 days of cold and windy, the rest were in the 70s and 80s.
After doing quite a bit of riding I've realized that my standard seat is'nt as comfortable as I would like it. I've looked at the Corbin seats but they seem to be a little lower than the stock. I really don't want to lose the height of the seat but I need more comfort for long rides, anyone got any suggestions?

The Corbin falls in the middle height-wise between the standard and the low...it is infinately more comfortable than either stocker.

You could talk to Sargent's about modifying your stock tall seat. They could probably make it a lot more comfortable yet retain the height. Also, they'll sell you the supercell foam if you want to do it yourself.

If you have the soft (tall) stock seat (which the 2002 usually is), the Corbin is the same height-maybe taller. Corbin will also custom make your seat to your specs (and it used to cost nothing extra including colours, piping, texture, etc. ).

How much "stuff" comes out of the way before a person can get to the spark plug??
