So far its just Scott and I - I'll start asking around - see if anyone else would be interested as well - this would be another great opportunity for Cali Blastards to meet and greet and enjoy some great riding as well with a lot less chance of rain! - lol

Due to the disappointing turnout of Blasts at the American Sport Bike BBQ (two), I'm guessing, unless there is a lot of enthusiasm besides mine and EZ's, we wont have a SLO ride next year and will just put our efforts towards the American Sport Bike BBQ in Buellton (if they have it there again).
There was only a fair turnout at Buellton. Unfortunately the promise of bad weather made a lot of people stay home. Though I cant blame them much. Not much fun (or safe) riding through some serious twistys on a bike with 80+ hp in the rain (and hail and lightning) trying to take it easy. A few people did go down, but no serious injuries (that I know of).

Looking forward to next year.

There are a lot of Blastards here in Cali and yet very few of
us have met one another in person. Here is your opportunity to get a
good set of rides in, meet the folk/friends you have been conversing
with over the net and share riding stories, and enjoy the sharing of a
passion we all have in common - Buell. Last years ride was a lot of
fun and the roads and folk where awesome! Truely an adventure you'll
remember! The twisties are calling your name - can you think of more
fun filled reply?! Heres your chance to compare notes and make
friends, and this is California after all - a place known for great
roads - our mission is to find them! Bring your ride, make some
friends and enjoy a great time! San Louis Obispo is the meeting point
- join us - the origionals plus already! So join in some fun and
create some memories to recall. Let the ride To SLO Part Five' Begin!

(again the ride will be April 24,25,26!)

Disclaimer: This ride is in no way associated with Buell, any Buell Forums,
or any of its organizers. This is a voluntary gathering of fans of the
Buell Blast. No one is leagally responsible for another on this ride
or gathering - we all agree that we are responsible adults in charge
of our own behavior, and that a safe and sober ride is our own
responsibility and expected of us. Housing, feeding, and personal care
is each our own responsibility. Showing up for this voluntary event
will be a sign of accord of the above statement and will be taken as
acceptance of such.

That said: Please make sure your bike is in good working order, that
you are in good working order, and that you are prepared for any
contingencies that may occur (a cell phone and Roadside
Assistance Membership would be a great idea, any tools you feel you'll
need, etc.). I will reserve a small block of rooms at the Travel Lodge - 1825 Monterey St., (805)543-5110),
however, such rooms will be shared (unless you bring your significant
other - that counts as sharing - ;0)) and any other lodging
arrangements will be your own responsibility - so if you want your own
room to yourself- you'll need to arrange such.

The Idea and goal of this event is to meet and share a little time
together having fun and enjoying a ride!

Each of us may participate as much or little as they please, however,
thanks to those participating so far it looks to be a promising start
to a fun event!

Hope to see you there and remember - ride your own ride!

I'll put the event on my schedule. Those days are early enough before I leave to Florida for my science conferences, so that should be a good weekend to go.

The ride to SLO 5 - just have to go over some of the connectors - make sure they are all good.

The ride back home -

Both should be fun!

So where do you want to meet folks on the ride down - to join in the fun! Saturday can be done either way - a small ride & a visit to the Motorcycle Museum, or a longer ride together followed either way with a great dinner at a terrific rib house. Great riding, fellow Blastards - who can ask for more.

The tentative plan is to drop by Kyles on the way. He lives in Thousand Oaks, off the 101 and close to the 23.
I (we?) dont plan on taking the 101 all the way up.

Erik,

We are still seriously considering the SLO ride. We still need to find a better seat for the Blast. What route are you taking up there. Chris is trying to decide if she's brave enough to ride or if she's going to trailer.

Very happy you're still considering it
Whatever route 'we' take will be mostly freeway for the first 50-60 miles until we get to LA/Thousand Oaks. I dont see a way around it. We'll probably meet up at Kyle or P3-pilots (Ray) house. Its possible you could trailer it that far. Kyle (or maybe Ray) may have room for the trailer/car.
From there it will be as many back roads as possible. I havent picked a route (or even looked at a map), but P3pilot has offered to draw up some suggestions.

The goal is as little traffic as possible and a no pressure ride.

Chris will do freeways, but she's not real comfortable on them yet. The more back roads the better. What time are you thinking about heading out Friday morning? We're in Buena Park. Maybe we can meet up and head north together.

Wolffsoul, you'll be missed. Your absence will be 'nagging' at me all weekend LOL!

Daris, I'll try to give you a call tomorrow.
If we swing by your place it'll probably be the 5 to the 101 to Thousand Oaks/Simi Valley. Then the 23, to the 126, to the 150, to 33 (Ojai), then 166 over to 1, to 227, to SLO or 23,126,192 (through Santa Barbara),154,246,1,227. P3Pilot was going to make up some routes, I'm just taking a quick look at the map. We've gone several different ways, some much longer than others, but those 2 are the shortest without taking freeways all the way up.

Friday morning after 9am (end of rush hour-leave your house at 9). Otherwise we'll either be riding in the dark or in freeway rush hour traffic.
The goal is to get as many riding together as possible, which at this point looks to be about 7 of us (including you and Chris on separate bikes).

I still dont know who's going to plan the Saturday SLO ride. James did it a couple of years, I dont know if he still has the routes. It wont be anywhere as near as long as the ride up though. Maybe half that mileage at best.

That plan sounds good to the both of us.

Mari - It's too bad you can't make it. You will definitely be missed.

Question for the experts. There's a fairly new Dunlop on the back, but the front is getting close to needing a replacement. Will the freeway jitters still be there if I install a Pirelli on the front and leave the Dunlop on the back?

One Pirelli is better than no Pirelli! It will definitely help with the freeway jitters having a Pirelli on the front. 2 Pirelli's would be excellent. 2 Dunlops would be hideous. (I would never run a Dunlop on the front).
Sorry I didnt get a chance to call.

I concur with Erik. When I got my bike it had the Dunlops and I hated it on the freeway. Time came for a new rear but the front still had plenty of tread so I kept it and it still made freeway riding a chore. (had to hold on tight to the bars due to the jitters). Gettin my two Pirelli's from parts411.com in San Dimas for a good price, might wanna check on them Daris. }

Due to a recent policy change at the Travelodge vs.service animals, I have cancelled my staying at the Travelodge and booked us at the Super Eight - 1951 Monteray - down the block; if you already have private reservations at the Travelodge, no need to change them, however, if you are part of a group splitting a room, plan to stay at the Super Eight instead - or reserve a room at either. They are not far away - about 4 or 5 buildings from each other - and we can walk/ride to either for visiting. Also great dinning and restraunts suround us - so we'll get together and and vote on where to eat the first night and hit Mo's the second! A tradition!
