First, I hate going to the Harley shop. You all know why. But when they tell me it's $140 to replace the stock shock on a Blast... you gotta be kidding me!!! Seriously, I need to replace my stocker shocker and my whole Blast is hardly worth $140 anymore. Anybody have any suggestions??? | ||

I appreciate the above posts, but I was already aware of used shock availability on eBay. I'm looking for a NEW shock at a reasonable price, or ideas for replacement. I'm a big guy, and the factory shock is less-than-adequate when new. There are some articles on here about different upgrades, etc. but none seem timely. I just don't wanna spend $140 on a generic 'made in china' factory shock that should only cost $25 when it will suck anyway. I need to reduce the price or increase the performance! | ||

Sorry, I guess we misunderstood the question. The factory shock is a Showa, hardly a bottom line no name brand. Blast shocks rarely fail, even with a sizable rider aboard. A cheap replacement isnt available. $85 for a new original replacement shock w/o spring. There hasnt ever been a need for a low price cheapo shock replacement (which would be worse and likely not last). Better performance can be had in the form of a Hagen, Works or Penske shock, but you'll pay for it. Nothing directly crosses over to fit a Blast. Some twin (dual as in needing 2) shocks are short enough, but lack the dampening ability and spring load. A couple mono shocks are 'close enough' to work (such as a Honda 919 or Yamaha VS 650), but then you're still replacing a stock shock with another factory stock shock (and probably a Showa!). Others may fit, but you'll need to do the research (as of yet no direct crossover I know of has been found-thats not to say it doesnt exist though). The stock shock can be shimmed for extra weight, but thats not going to help the dampening any. The Blast was never intended as sportbike replacement or competition. Merely a simple, no frills starter bike that adequately performs for a broad range of riders (which it does). | ||
