I was curious if anyone has ever tried clutchless upshift and how did it work out? I've done it a few time but it seems even sloppier than when using the clutch. I was just curious what you guys think. I know that buell didn't put together the greatest gear box and I don't want to damage anything, but if you ever run full throttle the engine needs to stay at a high RPM for smooth shifts and to get back on the juice. I don't know, I just change all the fluids and plug yesterday and need something to break to put me back in my place! Thanks for the help!

" you ever run full throttle the engine needs to stay at a high RPM for smooth shifts"Not sure I follow that, but clutchless shifting isnt a good idea on the Blast. I know those that do, but unless you've done some trans work, like the shifter pawl adjustment (or have the rare trans where everything is 'spot on' from the factory), you're asking for trouble. A different shifter (like the XB) will also help on those fast shifts.
I've had bikes that will shift clutchless full throttle and the Blast isnt one of them. My old Triumph 750 was a joy to do that on: ) My FXSTB shifts waaay better than the Blast too.
If you can get it to shift smoothly, however that is, then do it! But if you're jamming gears, it'll cost you.
My opinion.

I mean that in the time it take to shift the engine speed drops enough to lug the transmission some. Not much but the powerband is so narrow you need to keep engine speed up. I'm not going in the direction of any modifications, I just heard that "modern" motorcycle transmissions can do clutchless upshifts. I was able to do it once without grinding gears. Just curious to see if people have done it before.

"Modern" motorcycle transmissions, yes. The Blast isnt engineered that way. Many rice rocket riders will tell you that clutchless upshifting is the only and/or proper way to go and to some degree thats true, just not with the Blast.

I wonder if your bike is running properly because the Blast has a wide powerband. I also dont see why your engine rpms are dropping so significantly between shifts that it lugs. 1st-2nd gear shifting usually sucks. All other gears should shift like butter.
Are you hitting the rev limiter?
Is your primary chain adjusted properly?

Yeah I member in the days racing a CR125 Elsinore and after the race started there was no clutch used. I do remember splitting the case once to replace second or forth gear....

Are you racing? No? Well I would not recommend it then....

I'm pretty sure the clutch is worn with 24k miles on the original but it only will slip in 2nd gear. I'm gonna adjust the primary and I'll get back here and say if it improves. 2nd is the only gear that give me any problems.

I may just be doing some sloppy shifts. I do occasionally hit the rev limiter. Thanks for the help folks, sometime I get stupid ideas.

Do the Shift Pawl adjustment and correct any drum pins longer than the rest.

I'll look in the manual to figure out exactly what you are talking about. I think I may try a clutch cable adjustment with the new cable I bought 3 years ago.

Thanks for the info!
