Hey everyone - I just bought a Yellow 03 Blast (hence the username) last weekend! Great deal on it and only 4050 miles. This is my second bike, and so far I really like it. I had two questions though. I hope this is where I should post them...

First, my stock exhaust rattles really bad right where it sits in the muffler bracket. I've checked, and both bolts that hold the bracket on are tight. It seems like there should be a spacer or something in between the muffler and bracket. Ideas? Am I missing something? My plan is to use some header wrap or something in between the muffler and bracket or just tack weld the muffler to the bracket.

Okay, second question. My clutch wants to grab a little when I'm at a standstill and the clutch lever is pulled in. If I try to push the bike backwards it becomes difficult and the rpms drop. I took it back to the dealership and they adjusted it to Buell specs, but there was really no difference. I'm taking it back on Monday for a teardown and inspection of the clutch. Anyone had experience with this?

Sorry for the long post, and thanks!

Welcome yellow Blaster!
Having not ridden your bike, I really cant be sure, but I have my doubts that at 4k miles a complete clutch teardown is really necessary. My recommendation is 1st a primary chain adjustment (not per the repair manual but looser because the manual adjustment is way to tight and causes problems).2nd a fluid change with the Harley synthetic (also, overfilling with trans fluid is alleged to cause your problem). Then a clutch adjustment at the clutch hub, then at the cable.

All are fairly simple to do and I have a bad feeling you'll be throwing your money away and they'll find more work to do on your Blast. : (

The exhaust usually fits tight. I suspect it may have a crack or broken mount or may even be missing the front mount rubber bushing.

Thanks, I'll check around on the forum for the primary chain adjustment. The trans fluid was checked by the dealer for exactly that reason, and I was told it was correct.

I need to get a maintenance manual - so far I've found them online for around $58-60 so I'll probably pick one up through there.

Welcome to the board Pat.

I concur with with Erik. My cable was way to tight when i picked mine up. The primary chain sounds like a reasonable explanation as well. I would start with those two. I don't believe the fluid would be needed if you just picked it up, they usually do a good job making sure your fluids are up to par.

Let us know what you find.

Indybuell- Bought one for riding on the back of my husbands chopper. Worked well for the 1/2 hr. I got to use it.(Myrtle Beach bike week 3 yrs. ago, chopper got stolen and the butt buffer was still attached). It made a huge difference with the little stick-on fender pad though. If you go to any bike rallies or swap meets they're usually there with demos.

Those look comfortable. I was thinking of stuffing my seat with some of that memory foam junk, that would be good too.

Update: It was the clutch cable. Way too tight. I loosened it up a bit and all was well. Thanks again.

Hey Ylwblast08! Still I would be checking the primary chain adjustment for two reasons, the first is if you have it adjusted to spec it is usually too tight and will cause the clutch basket to on the transmission mainshaft making the clutch plates to not be parallel and the second is if a dealership HD mechanic adjusted it it will probably be adjusted per the manual and will be too tight. When a Blast is new there is a very large spacer installed on the adjuster preventing the adjustment from being too tight, infact with the spacer in place it is down right sloppy, but, and that is a big but, the clutch will work just fine, and the bike will idle pretty well as the engine is not being dragged down by the chain being so tight.

Good Luck with it all.

Imadreadhead, Nice bars!

Wardo, I think they use a 10mm wrench, so it would be a 6mm diameter bolt.

Okay, in the context of all of the technical discussions going on here the past couple of days, I feel like a simpleton to ask this, but here it goes: I noticed my right front turn signal today is so loose that it was turned towards the ground. It is difficult for me to get my hands on because of the windshield, but when I tried to tighten it, it looks like the screw has no more threads to tighten.

Compared to the left it doesn't look like a piece is missing. However, I did drop it on this side 3 months ago and broke the cover over the bulb. Maybe there was more damage than I thought, but it was fine yesterday.

Sorry for lobbing this softball out there.

It's confirmed--I'm an idiot. Fixed the turn signal--simply had to twist the whole unit like it was a screw a couple of rotations. Sorry to waste your time on this.

Kmart = WalMart........without the gate rushers (and a bit less of a selection). And yeah, Kmart and Sears have merged, hence the Craftsman tools at Kmart.

Have you guys seen the Craftsman Bottle Opener. Looks just like a Wrench. It's pretty heavy duty, and it's guaranteed for life.

Kmart bought Sears a couple years ago. My stepfather-in-law works for a Sears franchise, is small town. The franchise stores can only carry certain tools. Not long after Kmart bought Sears, the Kmart in town started carrying the good tools that his franchise could not sell.

Ya Kmart didn't buy Sears, they merged under the Newly formed Sears Holding Corp. I also own a "Dealer Store" (Smaller building same products, better service, independently owned). It sucked when Kmart got tools, but all the people who have bought from Sears before still buy from us.

The bottle opener is amazing HAHA! I have one tied to my fridge!

The wikipedia page says that that Sears Holding Corp was created when Kmart purchased Sears Roebuck in 2005.
