I haven't broken it (knock on wood here too), but I did order a new one with the new isolator (including new outer bolts, washers, nuts).

Just to be clear, the bolt breaking on mine is the one closest to your left knee on the head itself. And both times were dealer provided/installed parts.

Makes ya wonder if they did it right 'per the manual'. Of course Buellboy492 has done his engine mount many times 'per the manual' and it still breaks. So, I'm assuming you'll replace it yourself. Now you'll know its done right!
WARNING: Avoid using an EZ-out to remove the broken bolt. If it breaks, you're sunk. Quite a few heads have been trashed because of them.
(Of course "EZ" will tell you to use one, which is fine {he's used them many times}. But at least you've been warned. Take extra care.)

M'r F'r. I order that isolator on 10/17/08, and it's STILL NOT IN. Supposedly it was to come off back order on 10.31.08. I called last week and it still wasn't in, so I asked the lady to hold the tougher one they had in stock. In the perfect world the the lighter one would come in and I'd be able to compare the two and make a decision, partly influenced by my bank account. Still not in, and the other was sold. So goes another weekend, with no bike to ride Monday.

He's going to order the tougher one. I took a chance and asked if they'd sell it for the same price as the lighter one, and of course, he said hell no. He'd give me 10% off though. He said it's not their fault (the dealer), it's been on back order, so who ever HD orders it from is the one taking so long.

Oh well, I'm behind in school anyhow.

What's the longest anyone here has waited for a part?

EZ - I'm going to check that place you recommended. I'm going to see if I can get one shipped to me quicker.

When I finally ordered the Buell specific bolt for my Blast, it was about a month before I was out of country. I came back 4 months later and it was it. I'm not sure how long it actually took.

I know Gail's Harley Davidson here in KC has them in stock (the lighter one). If you call I'm sure they would ship it. I think it was $12 or so for the part.

Girlfriend took the blast for a short ride today... I could hear her coming back to the house a block away. Something didn't sound right.

As she pulled in the driveway, I grabbed my Mag-Lite.

Another torn isolator. Just had this changed out with the stock part by H-D a on Oct 11th.

yuppers - its failed. I really can't for the life of me figure why half of these will fail within a few hundred miles and the other half will go the distance - even when installed the same way - all new bolts, isolator, a touch of oil on each side of the two washers, bolts pre ran with the new nuts to ensure fit - are they really that difficult a part to make - so far its seems so - heck I've received new ones with tears in them and chucked them - why bother - even if it is only the covering rubber - lol

In such situations will they replace/refund the part?

I'm guessing dealer job is guaranteed, but has anyone had success getting a refund when they did the install themselves?

EZ - what's your experience on the tougher isolator? Does that have 100% (or close to it) stable life? Or is it just as hit/miss, just not as much?

Maybe your engine's too damn heavy!

I'd give your dealer a call and ask if the repair is under warranty. It should be. When the local shop replaced a bolt, it broke in less than 1000 miles. They covered it. The next time it broke, I did it myself.

The tougher isolator brings your vibration level to a 2000 - no biggie to me since I own one and knew what to expect - so far - with hard riding the Twin isolator is doing just fine, the funny thing is - the regular isolator on the 2000 is doing fine as well - and it was installed the same day, the same way, etc. as the isolator previous to the twin isolator on the other bike. Just weird - EZ

Install with new nuts and bolts, put a lite coat of oil on the top and bottom center washers, pre-run the new bolts and nuts on each other - they will be tight - torque from the bottom. Make sure that the mounting of the ground strap on the one side is clean and correct.

H-D said the part was in stock and the original repair was covered for 90 days after the repair.

Taking her up tonight for another go.

So if the tougher isolator takes a post 2000 blast down to 2000 level vibration, how is that isolator on a 2000 for someone like me who doesn't have a newer one to compare with?

So, as of yesterday (and today), still no part. Dealer called and said everything was in, but this included the tougher isolator, rather than the cheaper one.

I called Beull customer service yesterday, and I will say, I was impressed with their promptness. I left a message with someone, and within an hour, someone from customer service called me back to give me status.

Dealer called me this morning, and said, "I found some stuff out on that part." (Yeah, you found out because I called customer service).

When I ordered the part (on October 17), I was told that the PN L0501.T had been updated to L0501.TA. Apparently, this part is now "obsolete," and has been replaced with PN L1501.T, at $24.99. This has a minimum 30 day wait time from the time ordered. He won't order it while I make up my mind, because he needs to know for sure I want it.

NOTE: Had I not called customer service, I would have been waiting indefinitely for a part that was not available. Yesterday, I asked the dealer if there was anyone they could call to see if there was any way of getting the part in quicker, or find out what was going on. I was told no. That’s when I called customer service. Further, as of today’s conversation, he mentioned, “remember when I would pull it up in the system, it would say, ‘no information available.’” No I don’t remember that. And if it did say that, why wouldn’t you find out why?

Personally, I'm in a tough spot. Trying to save money, but want to get this done. However, it's cold as shit, so I don't know if I’m tough enough to ride. My break isn't for another month, so free time I have should be studying for finals.

Ultimately, it's about a $20 different between the two parts. Pay the $20, and I can pick everything up today.

I need to ask one more question, a concern that's hanging in my head after getting some feed back and reading the thread about “broken bolts.”

Gearheaderiko said, “Very, very few are using the tougher isolator.”

EZ - I don't mind more vibration, but is it possible that the increased vibration could lead to other damage? Is it possible that the increased shaking could lead to bolts breaking, or something else?

If the answer is a solid “no,” I’m going to just get the parts. If the answer is “not sure,” or “possibly,” then I will order the Blast isolator and just sit tight for another month (after all, I should be studying and it’s cold).

In the mean time, I’m going to call Evilbetty’s suggestion and see if Gail's Harley Davidson will ship me the part.

Actually I don't know - Swampy has been running one for quite a while now, and I've only got a few hundred on mine - the extra vibration is only at idle - things smooth out rather quickly after that and there are plenty of 2000 Blasts going strong still - so its really a matter of personal choice - a bit more vibration or the chance to change it again in a thousand or less - of course you could get lucky and fall on the other side of that 50% and never have another problem with it as well. I'm just testing to see if this is a viable alternative - so far my answer is yes.

The bolt breakage is not a problem. All pre-2004 Sportsters are solid mounted and NONE of them have had the bolt breakage problem like the Buell has(of course the engine isn't hanging like on the Buell). Now, once I went through the learning process after the first bunch of broken bolts, I was fine.

I truly believe there was a hole elongation problem with both my Blasts, why? I don't know but Helicoils fixed it and they have been abused ever since with no problems.

Called BCS.

Long story short: I asked, "so I'm taking this as a recommendation." He said yeah.

The recommendation was to go with 16207-79D.

He said there should not be any problems from increased vibrations.

Backing plate: The big washer to keep the bolt from pulling all the way through the isolator.

#21 of list/diagram, page 54-55 of parts. After I thought about it, when you originally gave me a list of what to buy: isolator, snubber, bolts, washers, you did not mention the backing plate. So I didn't worry about it after I asked the question.

What? It can vibrate more at an idle? I want THAT one!!!
