They put salt on our icy roads this morning, so my bike will be on the trickle charger for the next few months as well...

That road salt will ruin your brake caliper!

Got my Fuell last week.

Brakes normally only pulse when squeezing the lever, thats how you feel the pulse. They can pulse if the brakes are hanging up due to a malfunction. They can also make noise simply when the wheel is rotating and make a grinding noise if the pads are worn down to metal, rotor is rusty or pads are old and hard. What gear you're in shouldnt make a difference (unless its in relation to speed).
I dont think we're clear on what your problem actually is.
Avoid the replace everything approach until its fixed. Diagnose the problem first.

Hi y'all,

Still putting the miles on my bike. I'm riding in the cold weather too (cold for down south is like...below 45 degrees). I just wanted to let you know that my bike has had the following mods: V&H pipe -but you knew that, K&N filter, re-jetted carb, Westach tachometer, and nice low-profile mirrors. I'm enjoying the bike more than ever and it's thanks to this list for all of the suggestions! So, thanks again!

Pulley bolts on the rear wheel. The Attwood family populates the Wasilla area.

I felt something that felt like pulsing at low speeds. Turned out the bolts on the pulley were all coming loose.

ak-blastin:WARNING WARNING
Make sure you do not still have the old, recalled rear pulley. If Reuel is right, that may be the problem.
Count the teeth on the rear sprocket/pulley. If it has 73 teeth DO NOT RIDE IT. If it has the 80 tooth rear pulley, its been recalled and you are fine.
REPEAT: Do Not Ride it if it has the 73 tooth sprocket. If thats the pulsing, you are about to experience catastrophic failure which can be very dangerous. Unlikely at 25000 miles that it hasnt been changed out to the 80 tooth, but it is possible.
If you have the new 80 tooth sprocket you have nothing to worry about.

(post by Fast1075) Hugh. if you are talking about the REAR master cylinder, it's 1/2" bore...I have not measured the front master cylinder, but I THINK it's 11mm.

If my old brain cell still works...the VT is the twin cylinder model??? and the VF is the single?? I know they made both...An old friend, now dead owned a single (VF??) that was the IDBA record holder...that was the only single I ever raced against that was quicker than my stroked XL350...there is no replacement for displacement.

Harry- Thanks for the info. I was actually looking for the front; sorry I forgot to specify. The Ascot has a 16 mm (~5/8") unit so that's too far off.

Yea, the VT500FT is the twin that looks pretty much like a Harley XR750 knock off. The Ascot FT500 was the air-cooled single. IIRC the FT was made in 1982 and 83; the VT was made in 1983 and 84. No doubt using one name for two very different models confused many potential buyers.

In either case Hugh, you have a fairly rare and rather nice bike...hope the V-twin version doesn't eat starter gears like the single did. Or trans gears like my XL did...ok it was my fault...but I couldn't help it ; )

Fork Brace Saga:

Long story short - Erik O. is dropping by there on thursday for a test fitting - if it goes well - it should - all figure so, just need to verify - then friday I will have a part number for the Buell Blast Superbrace - sorry, however, due to the Blast's new popularity due to its gas mileage ability no dealer in the area was willing to allow a trial fitting - problem solved - Erik lives 20 minutes away and is off on thursday. Sorry for the delay folks! But its not for a lack of trying to get it done - lol

Within the Honda models the "V" within the identifier indicates a V configuration. This could be a twin, four, or even a five (more limited production on the five) cylinder. The V-twin was the same as the Shadow's.
The FT is for "flat track". These were modeled after the flat-track bikes of the 70's and 80's, and, as such, would look very similar to the XR Harleys.
I'd researched and shopped for an FT before I bought the Blast.
I like simple, and it doesn't get much more simple than an air cooled single.
-I really wanted to find an SRX600 Yamaha, but I think you have to wait for a current owner to die first...

Awf - Those SRX's are awesome! (St. Blastard, I appologize) I love flat trackers and cafes and some of them out there are unbelieveably cool! Quite a few of them look like a meld of the direction I will hopefully be going with my Blast this winter.

Thinsulate waterproof boots, Walls Blizzard pruf suit over my riding gear, a fleece hunters hood under my lid and tucked in the suit. Just some generic vinyl insulated gloves. There Ok, but after 20+ miles my finger tips start to ache with the cold.

If you hadnt seen the news (SoCal "firestorms"), its been mid to high 80's. Today I think it only reached 82 though. Snow was expected, but I guess the ash blew out to sea.

Done the cold weather stuff, so I feel your pain,
