Jerzydevil,

Thanks for the tip. I think I have some of those kicking around in the basement and I will give it a try. I thought there had to be a simple solution. I did a search before I posted the question but got no results.

If the nuts seem hard to turn, spray some PB Blaster on them. It works wonders!

The peg hanger mount system is the only really stupid thing about a Blast...simply dumb other thing is how the stock exhaust is all kinds of in the way for of the trans drain.

Both can be remedied...but the coupling nut trick makes the hanger removal a lot easier...I can't fathom why they didn't use external allen cap bolts that could be taken out in a minute or two...must be that would have cost an extra .94 per bike.

Just watched the new video on the homepage of Buell's website "We are Buell", they showed the bikes through the years and there was not one picture of the Blast!? WTF? Come on Buell, you've got a great little bike, give it the same respect that you give to your other bikes. I love my Blast, and even though i may buy a bigger bike (another Buell), I won't be getting rid of my Blast, no way, no how!

HELP, 350 miles a week - squaring off a "Dunflop" every 4000 miles! Any advice for longer wear, anybody know about the Pirelli ST66? Oversize,PSI, tire swell while riding(rubbing). Is this a good choice

Lol - Its their best seller - maybe they feel they shouldn't have to advertise that - truth is we have always been the Step-child of the Step-child - waiting for them to wake up, accept, and grow -
I must say though that Buell as a company has really been pushing for good customer service from its distributors - including the Blast, I'm hoping that if they really want to get in the singles market - they need to support the single they have - and from a long time owner - shame on em for not bettering certain critical parts that the twins got, and das boot! A certain oil gear should have been stock in the 08' models as well - just me?

Have not made the purchase. Still shopping. Have only read past forum's looking for my best option. Hoping you can shed some light on the tire subject. 42 mile commute one way, lots of straight 65 mph riding. Ideas????

Try the Avon AM 26 in the stock size, is is supposed to be a dual compound tire, hard in the center for long life, stick on the edges for corners.

Can anybody tell me the piston diameter on a Blast master cylinder? I actually need a replacement unit for my old Honda (1983 VT500FT Ascot); Honda parts are VERY expensive and the Blast unit appears pretty similar to the Honda part.

The only one available for the rear is the stock size 120/80/16. There are no negatives that I have discovered with the AM 26 as of yet, I have pushed it really hard and really like it.

Size does matter....

What 130 Dunlop did you have?

Welcome Longranger!
FWIW: Nobody I saw mention it but 4000 miles is normal for a Dunlop and more than 5000 miles for any Blast rear tire is exceptional. Few attain more than 5k and you'd be in a select group on the front lines of passing on rear tire longevity information.

Dunlop K630 130/80/16. I have it now, or for the next 500 or 600 miles. Just riding nothing fancy, no down shifting (back spin) no hard braking (save for the idiots) no power take offs. THANKS FOR THE WELCOME. Two tires in to the buell, two hours in to the forum. Great bike, a little week, but great on fuel. Did not know tires were a issue, anything else to look out for? Got a good deal on my 03, it had 1500 miles and a half tank. Some chic that could not learn to shift gave it up for 1750! Yeah for me none for you! No input on Pirelli's? Thought Ezblast had a set in a archive that I read.

Well the front tire is always gonna get more miles out of it than the rear but i think that 6000 miles on the front and 5000 miles on the rear is about the best anyone is gonna get

Fronts will last at least twice as long as rears, but I wouldnt run a Dunlop front, even if it was free.
If you want handling go with Pirelli's.
If you want mileage (and handling), go with Avons.

Once you ditch both Dunlops for the Avons or Pirelli's, you wont believe the ride quality difference.

I wouldn't run a free Dunlop either, The Big Kids Blast has an oversize Avon Vyper Stryke on the front and a stock size AM 26 on the rear, I like it.

Rears, you are doing good if you are getting 3-4000 miles on them, the front goes twice as long as the rear.

And just like Gearheaderiko says, you won't believe the ride quality difference, it makes it a hole different bike.

Hugh. if you are talking about the REAR master cylinder, it's 1/2" bore...I have not measured the front master cylinder, but I THINK it's 11mm.

If my old brain cell still works...the VT is the twin cylinder model??? and the VF is the single?? I know they made both...An old friend, now dead owned a single (VF??) that was the IDBA record holder...that was the only single I ever raced against that was quicker than my stroked XL350...there is no replacement for displacement.

Hey fellow blasters,
First I'd like to say awesome job with this forum. I've been able to find just bout anything and everything I'll ever need for this bike, and it's always fun to dream bout the possibilities (Got thump photos).
So here is the deal. I bought my blast bout a month ago. It's my first bike and lives up to the name. I got the bike, a 2000, with ~ 25,000 miles of commuting. I'm no mechanic wiz by any means but i do enjoy tinkering round a bit. The bike was complete stock when I bought it. Thus far with your help, I've changed the oil and filter, taken both wheels off and had new rubber put on (by seattle cycle) from the HD dealer stocks to Avons, and switched out the handlebars and mirrors to the superbike bars and bar end mirrors. The bike looks sweet!!!!!
But after a 80+ mile day (the longest ride thus far) I noticed the the front disc brake seems to be rubbing and/or making a grinding sound in first . I'm not sure what the problem is. The tire the shop put on is a avon 100/90/16. The reservoir under the foot peg reads low. The reservoir mounted on the handlebar I noticed isn't strait as to get the level read. Could that have something to do with it?
When I ride in first it seems like the brakes pulse and it seem to get worse up hills. I have no idea where to start. Could it be bearings and the wheel is not riding straight as well? I've pushed the wheel around when the bike is standing and it doesn't seem to have any give, but I don't know if thats how to check. ARe there adjustments I could've made when taking off and putting on the wheel, or that I could make now to the brake? As I said NOT the greatest mechanic but any help as to where to start would be appreciated.

New brake fluid, pads, and maybe a disc as well - already got 20,000 on it - then everything else is good with maintenance.

Hey, AK! What part of AK? I'm like you, but I did the Seattle area back in 97 to 98.

Brake pulse only happens when you're squeezing the brakes, right? I felt something weird that could be called a pulsing, but not when squeezing the brakes. Turned out the last time my tire was changed, the pulley bolts were not tightened down properly.

My front tires last as long as my belts! Am I doing something wrong?

Yes - riding in the wheelie position to save wear on the front tire is not a recommended procedure.
