More than likely the primary shoe is worn out and the adjustment is a little out.

08Uly,

How hard was changing out the jets? I have the ProSeries Intake and Exhaust, but I think that the original owner didn't up the jets at all. Did you happen to take pics/video on changing them out?

OK guys, one more question and I'll let this go and we can move everything over to the primary line:

I've isolated several of the clicking, rattling noises to: at idle the right foot peg sounds like a valve is loose or something. The high pitch rattle in the primary is actually the airbox, the brass ferruls of which came off with the bolts when I replaced the boot. Seems the red loctite didn't work and I'll go for JB Weld next.

The occasional thunk, like a hammer on the inside of the shifter, while not regular is scary. Also, and here's the scariest of all,

Is it normal for the Blast transmission, with the engine off, to switch from 2 to 1 or 2 to N, 1 to 2 or 1 to N, but not go into 3, 4, or 5 without physically moving the bike?

There are no problems under power and running, just sitting still. It doesn't feel like the shifter moves but it just won't go into gear, it feels like the shift lever will not rise.

(PS: Thanks for the help. When I take it to the dealer I want to be as specific about the issue as possible.)

Rainman,
I'm not sure that a MC transmission is designed to shift through all gears in an engine-off condition. They aren't like a car transmission. All gears are linear, and, by configuration, will not all line up in a row for shifting 2,3,4,5 with no rotation of components. I don't think I've ever owned a bike of any make that would go through all the gears without a bump from the back wheel to help line up the gears.

How freakin' sad: I've been riding every freakin' day for 20 years, teach MSF and R.E. classes and I'm so paranoid about blowing up this stupid bike that I'm second-guessing everything I already know!

When I bought my Sporty back in the 80s I drove this one old biker-mechanic crazy with rattles and squeaks. He finally said "when you heard a loud bang and found a piston in your crotch and oil on your lips, call me."

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

OK, I'm going to wipe the foam off my lips, take another valium and go back to work.

Thanks guys. I'll take the rest of my paranoia to SACborg

OK Quick question..........

The girlfriend passed the MSF course this past weekend. She was asking me if I could make the clutch pull a little easier for her.

Besides lubing the cable or putting a hydraulic clutch conversion kit on it, is there anything I can do?

I don't think that the Muller Power clutch for the XB will work on the Blast.

She's 5'1" and 95lbs, not much arm strength. I hate to spend 300 bucks on the hydraulic kit.

No, however, the Muller kit for an 02 M2 will work for a Blast, however, you could also try the CRG levers on both sides as well.

If the M2 one will work then that would be cool. It's still some cash but I have one on the XB so I guess I can swing it for her bike too.

Thanks EZ!!!!

It's pretty easy, like EZ said, all the info is there. I didn't take any pics of the process. The Blast is very easy to work on.

Basic steps (read your service manual):
1. remove seat
2. remove tank cover
3. remove gas tank
4. remove intake
5. disconnect throttle from carb
6. unplug TPS, remove carb, keep upright
7. carefully, open bottom of carb "Watch the float"
8. pour out gasoline
9. turn carb over & replace jets
10. Don't touch the float!

Change the boot if it's bad.

Put it all back together!

I also replaced the brass carb screws with socket head cap screws.

Or:
1. Remove float bowl
2. Change jets

Even when pulling the carb, I dont remove the gas tank. The only time I remove the tank is if I want to change needle settings (takes less time and is less messy than removing the carb).
Just posting the easy way!

The Tubers and Blasts share the same tranny - minus the trap door - wish we had the trap door - life would be good then - you think by now someone would have done a kit for that - the cut out,o-ring and material gasket, the mounting anchors - a bit of work, but it would be like a total transmission upgrade in that we could then finally service 99% of the bike without splitting the case - that would be cool, the upgrades could then easily be done,Baker, etc.

True,

But for a n00b it might be more beneficial to dismantle it so as not to F'it up in the process. Plus it's a good learning experience.

Wolfsoul - yes the CRG levers have helped a lot of folks with the lessening of forces needed to pull the stock levers. As with the Muller clutch kit, get the ones for a 2002 M2 - they will bolt right on.

08Uly,

Thanks for considering the noobness in the explanation. I'm going to tackle the rejet when I change the tires. Are the jets labelled? I guess I am trying to figure out what's already in there. It has the Pro-Series intake, exhaust, and cams.

EZ - Does that mean that black m2 levers fit as well?
