Hello my name is Jim and I'm a Blast owner................ Well it looks like I have another part of the board to read now. Damn........... Well boys I bought me a 03 Blast this evening. It has 926 miles on it and I grabbed it for $1700. I think I could have gotten it cheaper but thats the first offer that I blurted out. She was asking 2K for it. It was been laid down but nothing is broken, just scratched. I'll post pix when I get a chance. Now my stable consists of 2 Buells, 1 Vespa and an old BMW.  I think I got a pretty good deal on it. Need a low seat, windshield and saddlebags for it now. Anybody have any of that stuff for sale? | ||

Welcome to the Darkside, Damnut! Low seats are a dime a dozen and someone here will probably trade you their low for your high/tall seat. Nothing wrong with the low seat-I prefer it-but everybody seems too tall for it! Buell Blast windshield is $125+ on ebay (or $200 new) or check out some of the others you'll see used here. It really depends on if you want the Batcycle Buell fairing or just a bigger one than stock. Zero Gravity makes some nice ones you can use, short-tall. Check out "luggage" for saddlebag choices besides the Blast bags offered by Buell (they work well, but not for everybody). E-bay is always good for stuff. Windshields and saddlebags usually go high. Low seats are often not even bid on! | ||

Thanks Gearhead!! The bike is actually for my girlfriend but I am also going to use it for a commuter bike, 70 miles round trip daily. I am going to keep the stock seat as I am going to be riding it too, she needs the low one. With my long commute, most of it being highway, I want a windshield for it, she wants one too. She'll be using it for school and will need the saddlebags for her books. She's 5'1, 100lbs so wearing a backpack while riding isn't a good idea right now, she's a noob to riding. LOL - I carry one a lot - all leather - old puppy now - some tools, oil, general stuff - makes for a nicely firm padded pack - probably get another 10 years out of it though - lately though I've just been using the Buell Courier bag - for commuting - but its dieing fast - lol - only looking to last two years - ahhh well - it was free. I just make sure stuff is snug so it doesn't move around on me while riding. EZ | ||

For the pack consider getting a cargo net with six hooks and attach it to the rear part of the seat and the tail. That also gives a bit of back support for the driver. That also might be more stable than saddlebags, but I'm sure there are options available. The only kind of backpack I would want to wear was one that inflated upon me leaving the bike at speed... | ||

My wife and I have 4-5 of them and have been using a timbuk 2 for more than a decade. I prefer the straight messenger bags and a sleeve if I'm gonna be riding with my computer for any time I have a Blogger that I comute with daily...In short awesome bags | ||

never tried any firstgear I've used a Joe Rocket Ballistic Jacket and Pants for 5 years and am very happy with them | ||

Ugh. Still no estimate from the dealer on fixing my bike. Maybe they don't like Buells? Are they really that busy, that they can't look over a walk in bike in under a week? WTF. | ||

Another newbie checking in. I bought my 2001 Blast in 2003 as my first motorcycle. I learned on the alleyways behind my apartment and have loved it ever since. I use it as a work commuter now that I live further away. I have close to 10,000 miles on it now, with my only problem ever being a leaky rocker box cover gasket (it was the old paper type) that I replaced with the new part myself. I even still have the original HD battery in it. Of course, I can only get roughly 2 gallons of gas out of the 3 gallon tank (still, 65 mpg ain't bad!), and it consumes rear tires. I need another one, and I'm tired of the Dunlops. I'm still relatively new to riding so I don't want to go messing around with wide tires...just want factory size. What tires should I go for this time around? I'm not looking for (much) performance, just decent wet weather capability and better longevity. Thanks in advance!!! | ||

Welcome Tackepj! Pirelli MT75's are now stock on the Blast. You will not believe the ride quality with these tires. Very sticky tires too. It'll make you wonder why you ever stayed with the Dunlops. You wont get better mileage out of them though. The Avon fans here will tell you which stock size Avons to buy. Not quite as sticky, better longevity and still a huge improvement over the Dunlops. You wont regret either choice. |
