Recently I have noticed that my Blast has been grinding very badly when downshifting to first. I have to try to push the lever a few times before it goes in and it grinds each time until it engages. I notice that it happens the most if im in 3rd gear and come to a stop sign. Ill stop the bike in 3rd gear, then downshift to first while im stopped and it will grind and hesitate into first or second. Would this cause my problem? Yesterday I was in 5th and had to stop abruptly at a red light. The bike would not shift into 1st at all and I had to "Flintstone" the bike to the side of the road until I could get it into gear. When I stopped in 5th gear...it wasnt grinding either...it just wouldnt shift. Is this "ME" or is my bike broken?

Sorry - its you - you should try to always shift down into the gear speed you are riding at - 5mph and trying to shift down from 5th can be practically impossible - blip the throttle a bit to match rpms as well when shifting - remember also to have the clutch fully pulled in if your going to shift like that.

I noticed at times when I've had to use emergency breaking, it won't shift down all the way once I'm stopped (stays in 2nd). When this happens, I slightly release the clutch and role on the throttle to let the bike move forward a little, while it's moving I pull in the clutch and down shift, problem solved.

Mine will grind if I wind out first at all and then shift to 2nd. If I just use first to get the bike up to 15 mph, it doesn't make a peep.

About 1/2 the time it grinds going from 2nd into 1st no matter what the speed.

I have noticed that the friction point on the clutch requires almost all the travel on the lever. At full travel, it feels like the clutch is completely disengaged but it can't have a lot of clearance in there.

I had a feeling it was me. Downshifting has presented itself as a bit diffcult to me as I learn to ride. Thank everyone!

LOL! I had the same problem my first time out! The manual's recommended shift speeds work well for me when down-shifting. (Ie. 40mph I grab 4th, 30 for 3rd, etc.)

I've ended up stopped in a high gear a few times too, and I've noticed that it's not necessary to do "full" shifts (engaging the clutch) to get down to 1st. I just keep the clutch pulled in and roll the bike forward with my right foot on the ground while working the shifter. It doesn't have to roll very far between gears, just click-click-click-click while rolling maybe 6" or so. It seems smoother doing it that way than using the clutch to roll it.

I'm still pretty new and I do that! Still learning where all the gears are at though. But I've also caught on to slowing down before going into 1st. However, I do notice that sometimes my bike will be in Neutral ("N" light will not be on) and I'll think its in 1st, I hate that! Only slightly embarrassing when riding.

It's also embarrassing when you think you've just shifted up a gear, hit the throttle, hit the rev limiter, squeeze the clutch again and grind into whatever gear it was you were trying to find in the first place! Rarely second, but only once third!

I was having a few issues learning how and when to shift too. I'm getting the hang of it now though.

At least I'm not chirping the tire when I downshift from third to second.

You think that's embarrassing? Try forgetting to put the kick stand up before you TRY to drive off. Did that this morning. (again). Sheeze!
