Hi folks,

Got done doing my boot and came across a minor problem. The left two bolts into the airbox clung to their brass fitting and actually pulled the brass fitting out with them (the fitting moved along with the bolt. Must have either some serious loctite on them or corroded together.)

I put blue loctite on the brass fittings and put them back into the airbox when I replaced the boot and put it all together, being as I'm far away from my dealer and couldn't get the parts or a new airbox and I've already waited a week to ride.

Will this result in disaster?

Also, is there a toss-away airfilter replacement for the Blast?

I want to keep it as stock as possible, but the current airfilter is shot and having one I can toss is in keeping with my personality. (I don't clean much, except for my body...sometimes.)

The boot seemed to go on OK and I danced naked around the oak tree (found a yellow-jacket nest. Don't ask) so I should be OK.

Sounds good - you can always glue those brass fittings in later, when you get home - the Blast air filter is the toss away - even though they say you can clean it, its not worth it to do so.

First Pass Official Time:
2 - 1/4 mile time: 102.338
3 mile time: 102.596

On a bone stock 2000 Blast - perhaps we should all change our gearing to the 2000 model - at least I'm comforted to know both bikes can break the ton - lol - and one with a stock ignition.

Rainman, you need to get some JB Weld mixed up and you can glue those brass ferruls back into place.....or if you are real good with heat, melt some plastic into the hole, then heat the furrel and press it into the plastic, let cool and use.

By the way, are you coming out to Michigan to ride this month?

OK, got a problem...

Thumper (a very minor Star Wars character) has a clicking sound at idle. It appears to be in the transmission. When I'm stopped, in neutral, and place my hand on the shifter, I can feel a knock at the same time it clicks.

When I put it in gear and ease out the clutch, it rattles pretty consistently until I get going. When I squeeze the clutch, the rattle picks back up until I stop and then goes to just the click.

I'm having no problem shifting, although I have a pretty consistent primary leak, about a drop of gear oil every few days, that comes down from where the clutch cable joins the primary cover thingy.

I'm assuming my primary chain is slack and needs adjusting, or something like that. Is this something a mechanical idiot can do? The boot was perfectly within my capabilities, although a bit frustrating.

Yes - with the bike warmed up and idling, since you already hear sound - usually you loosen till you hear sound, loosen jam nut, skip(loosen till you hear sound), then tighten till sound disappears, then tighten jam nut. Three laps around the tree, Done.

Yes Rainman, I would go after the primary adjustment first.

The perfect conditions have occured....You can actually hear something! Now just tighten the primary adjuster until it goes away....but not too tight!

LOL! The tree bit cracks me up every time I read about it! The primary adj is ridiculously easy. Look for the bolt under the trans that looks completely out of place. First time I saw it (the adjustment bolt) I thought that the guy that owned my Blast previously had done an oil change, lost the plug and replaced it with a bolt that was WAY too long (that really happened, my dirt bike ('92 KX250) has a grade-8 bolt rammed through the aluminum for an oil plug, I'm too chicken to pull it out and try to heli-coil it.) Before I figured it all out I got kinda pi$$3ed, I was like "NO FRIGGIN' WAY, NOT AGAIN!!!! I made it halfway through an audible "WTF is THAT!!???" before I realized what I was looking at. Wish you all could have been there, you'dve peed yourselves laughing at me. True story.

That's an adjustment screw? All this time I thought my motorcycle was a boy!

It sounds pretty easy. Should I go ahead and change the primary oil while I'm there? It seems easy enough. Would I need a gasket of some sort on that oil checker-filler door thingy? The service manual doesn't show one....

(Stop me if I get to technical with all the mechanic's jargon.)

Must be part of that Blunt Trauma - lol - so who does the longest commute on a Blast - i do a paltry 20 miles round trip these days - but have been avidly searching for twisties in the area during my small pieces of free time on the weekend.

Four-miles one way, but I take the Blast to various interviews and public meetings and whatever I'm covering for the paper that day.
