Blast ran great throughout the week until today. I started up the engine and drove up the street. While am in neutral, the engine dies moments after I let go of the clutch. The bike still runs great, just as long as I hold that clutch in.

Any ideas? I tried disassembling the carb to check things, everything's ok. replaced that chewed up fuel hose on the way. I have this weird feeling it's going to be clutch issues...

Probably a bad kickstand safety switch, but bypassing it will solve the problem.

To bypass it, just join the 2 wires of the plug together. For a temporary fix (to see if it works) you can jump it with a small piece of wire or (maybe) paper clip. If that fixes it then jump it permanently by cutting off the plug (from the kickstand switch) and joining the 2 wires together.
It could also be the neutral switch, but the above solves that problem to.

Or/also:

Bypass the clutch safety switch which is very easy and completely reversible.

Or do both, my Kickstand switch went out 4-5 years ago, I by passed it with a piece of safety wire, the Clutch switch was going out over the last year and I finally by passed it last month...why I waited I'll never know it's so nice to be able to start the bike one handed

These switches are like your appendix. "If this bothers you, we can have it removed."

yeah my wife used to mock me because I had to use two hands to start my bike compared to her 250R. She started to say something this morning and then stopped when she noticed I'd "fixxed" it

This winter, when I'm happy with my ignition module, I'll be rewiring the whole damn thing. I'll keep the bank angle sensor, but that kick stand switch and the clutch switch will just have to go.

speaking of electrical, something weird happened today. was riding to school when my bike just died while riding. I noticed the speedometer lights dying out completely. I pulled over, waited a few seconds, and the speedometer came back on. I started up the bike again and about 30 seconds later it died while on idle, same way, blank speedometer, etc. It did this 3-4 times until I got back home.

At home the problem never came back while just being on idle. I did notice that when I left home a huge amount of fog/mist came right at me, which was when it died. Could that've been it? I was a bit scared when it happened. Sound like a problem anyone's run into?

Sounds like a battery connection.
Start at the battery, and work your way out.

checkd the battery. connectors were heavily oxidized so I cleaned those off.

Will test ride tomorrow after more cleaning. some particles I couldn't reach with just a brush.

So, my 2001's battery still looks fine. No oxidation, never been cleaned, and starts like it's new. What am I doing wrong here? I guess I got the one GOOD 2001 Blast. I only had the expected rocker box gasket leak and broken mount bolt problems. Once fixed, it's been fine.
