For the BLAST, what is that sound when you initially turn the key to "on",,,it lasts only a few seconds,,,there is no mention of it in the owners manual...it is clearly caused by something getting electrically energized....I assume you all know the sound so i wont describe it more unless necessary,,,Thanks.

Is it spinning backward to bring it to zero? I think he wants to know exactly what is happening. It's a strange sound, and I always figured that since the only thing mechanical was the speedo, that it's spinning backward inside to reset it to zero or something.

thanks all,,,i will assume it is the speedometer and not give it any further thought...although - spinning backward to bring it to zero is interesting,,isn't it at zero when the engine is off??

Me too!

My bike doesn't make any noise until I hit the start button - the speed sensor died so I put a tach in the stock speedo housing.
