what are the tallest handlebars you can put on a blast before needing to replace all the control lines? I find the position i ride in requires me to lean down onto the handle bars... i ride way back on a high seat, and if the handle bars were taller it would make for a much easer ride. i know this goes against what most peeps do (going low bars for a more sporty position) but high bars and a new tall windsheald is the rout i think im going to go.

I was thinking dirt bike, atv bars. there are some with 6 inch rise foe $18, but i dont think the cables have that much play in them, i guess i could get a set ment for a uly?

I doubt you could go any higher than stock, but unclamp the bars and see how high. You could use risers instead of changing the bars.

risers cost too much, new bars are cheap... but that does not fix the cable problem. yep, i guess unclampin the bar, maybe rerouting the lines and wires and see how much slack they have.

I am sorry. I don't know if I should post this...but I have to. Today and tomorow my local Harley dealership ( www.fargohd.com ) is having their annual spring open house. Being as my b-day is today and I just turned legal I figured I would head over and see if there was anything I wanted to test ride. Turns out when I got there, there was a brand-spanking new '08 Nightrod Special. I signed up, thought nothing of it, and hopped on. OMFG. This is a sin on this board, but I think I am in love. As much as I love my Blast, the second I turned out of the parking lot a grin pulled across my face that I still haven't gotten off. That bike is in one word, amazing. I love every single thing about it, the riding position, the smoothness of EVERYTHING, the handling, and above all else, the POWER!! Holy hannah, does that summbish GO. I loved everything about it and more and if I had the money I would go put a down payment on one tonight. To all, I am sorry...but I can't help it. I encourage everyone, if you get the chance, test ride a V-Rod. You may not like it, but I sure as hell did!!

A Nightster with Ohlins and rearsets would be very fun indeed - lol

Not a sin. I cant believe they let you ride it!
Not sure if it is the first 'Harley' you've ridden. Mine was a fire engine red 1976 Sportster. I was about 18 too. Nothing ever again feels like your first time.
In other words, I know how you felt.

Walter - did you go with a 515cc kit - if so you may need to rejet a tad leaner.

Yes, yes it would. Do they make rearsets for V-rods though? Granted, I love the stretched forward riding position, but to really throw it around (if you'd even want to) rearsets would help.

Yes they do! In fact a German group did just that, and mounted a full fairing, and came in third in an endurance race.

DO I have to buy the front isolator from the dealer? I'm not finding it on American Sport Bike.

It failed at 6K, and noticed tonight that its totally shredded again. I suspect the dealer installed it wrong... Also noticed several missing bolts...

45 primary would be ok, but the main could be very rich - depending on what you had before - a 165 - max a 170, betting 165 is the way to go.

I've had 50/50 luck with isolators, so I'm going to try the Tuber one that ole Buelistic recommended on my Daily driver tommorrow - it sure looks beefier than the Blast one, and if worst comes to worst I will change it out with a Blast one I have standing by - with Chicago HD there is only a twenty dollar difference, so its worth a shot - he was right about half the time - so there was a chance he was right about that - worth a try - will let you know.

I have found a 2002 BLAST with 3800 miles on it. According to the current owner, all scheduled maintenance has been completed. The bike has never been dropped. It has a windshield and saddlebags and 2 seats available (1 reg, 1 lower). Asking price is $2400.

I'm looking for a starter bike for my wife who just completed a training course on a BLAST. She likes the bike and I've heard that this is a good starter bike. Any feedback would be very helpful - Thank you.

3800 miles it is almost broken in, it will need tires if it already does not have new ones on it, so that may be a bargaining point. $2400 is a fair price but try to talk him to $2000 if it needs tires.

Concur! $2400 is fair with all the accessories. I'd still offer $2000.

Yeah... try offering $2000 but even if they don't go for it, don't miss out on it. Jump on this like a buzzard on a gut wagon. Blasts are great bikes, your wife will love it.

Hi Everyone -
I'm posting because I have some questions about the Blast. I am heavily considering purchasing a used one. It?s a 2004 w/2500 miles for $2k and I know it's a bike that's been taken care of. As a first time rider (taken the MSF course) I'm drawn to this bike for its ability to be beginner friendly and also that it is a bike that?s a little more capable than a 250. I.E. freeway speeds, torque, etc.

My question (and I'm sure you?ve heard this before) is: am I too big for this bike? I am 6' 1'' 175lbs with a 32'' inseam. I've sat on the bike and my knees are pretty much in the decals of the tank. The bike has the standard seat @ 27''. Is that a normal seating position on a standard-sports bike for someone of my height? I've researched a few other standard-sports bikes such as the GS500, Ninja 500 and SV650 and noted their seats are between 29 and 30 inches in height.

I am entirely new to the sport (beyond some dirt biking YEARS ago). I'm looking for a good beginner bike. Should I be looking at a taller bike or even a different type of bike altogether such as a cruiser? Or for the price should I buy the Blast, learn on it, and then sell it after a season or so?

Thanks for any help!

- Ken

Welcome Aboard Ken,

I'd owned my Blast for just about a month now and can attest to the fact that it's not a good starter bike, it's a GREAT starter bike. I'm also new to the sport and my Blast is perfect for me.

I'm not quite as tall as you are. I'm 5 foot 10 and a well insulated 195. My Blast pretty peppy and has no problems with highway speeds with me on it. My son is 6 foot 1 and has a 34 inseam and he loves my Blast so much he is planning on getting one also. I wouldn?t worry at all.

I'd say forget what you look like, do you feel comfortable on it? That's really the only thing that matters. If you're comfortable, you'll be confident.

Only one word of warning for you. If you buy the Blast you won?t sell it after one season. They?re just too much fun for that.

Just enjoy the bike - that sounds like a great deal! The bike will handle you just fine and there are lots of different ergonomic things you can do to get even more comfortable.

Welcome!
