Just got back from a trip to the west coast visiting friends. One of them had a Buell Blast, which I fell in love with instantly.
Here is the question...
I live in New Orleans. There is a growing "scooter" population here, but I an wanting something that will get out of its way when I want it to. How is the Blast for an around town bike? Will it preform well just running back and forth across town? Or is it a better road bike? It was hard to judge in Ca because everything is a drive there.
Thanks, Jac

I live on the west bank. The blast will be fine for puttin around Nawlans, should be fine for the I-10 also. Its the crazzy ass drivers youll have to keep an eye on lol. And look into some steel cables to lock it down if you plan on parking in the CBD. The bike is lite enough for 2 guys to pick up and put in the back of a truck.

O, and another thing, there are no Buell dealerships near new Orleans, you will have to drive to Hammond, or Houma if you need them for any reason.

Exactly. I want to ride from uptown to the CBD, to the east or out by the lake. Up & down St Charles or Magazine. Just around town.
Not big on the I-10, but an occasional day trip out river road.
I was just curious about the performance as a putt around town bike, as opposed to being on the highway every day.
Thanks for your help.

Perfect city bike. Much more maneuverable and stable than a scooter. Scooters have more storage though : (

keep a look out for pot holes though. Some streets are so bad having a dual sport would be really nice. The back streets of up town can get really bad. The stock muffler make a good skid plate from what ive read... You will also need some saddle bags that detach so u can bring em into work with you.

I have to chime in with the "it's perfect for the city" group. When the light turns green, it has the torque to pull away from most cars, but with the mileage of a decent scooter.

The Blast is a good city bike. It is sufficiently powerful, lightweight, maneuverable, and easy to ride.

That being said, there are some very nice scooters available, not just the 49cc, "I don't need a license to drive" ones. I won't claim the Blast is better than all of them, but it is a motorcycle, and a scooter is a scooter. Not quite the same things, even if they both have 2 wheels.

Scooters can be real man killers at the hands of the unknowing.

Last year I saw a man laying on the street legs all tangled up with a scooter, brains laying on the ground.

Last year my good friend up north grabbed a handful of front brake at the end of his driveway while on his Honda 500cc scooter and when the thing went down the floor board snapped his ankle because his foot was down.

Scooters can be dangerous as hell!

Think of riding a 500cc scooter 75-80 miles per hour on 10 or 12 inch diameter tires.

I managed to dump an MP-3 250 in a parking lot when I tried to feather the clutch in a tight turn ... damn clutch turned out to be a rear brake.

TIMBER!!!!!!!!!

I know the feeling. I think I'm the exclusive member of the Delaware Buell Rider Association (DEBra)!
