Thanks Gearheaderiko that is good advise, I would not road race the 1125R, but would drag race it just to see how it does, it is my only means a transpo besides the blast, which I would race, if I can get it to perform good, I think the modified stock bore blast would be the way to go, my son wants to race so we could take turns, I just want to have fun, and would not want to wipe out my 1125R, I already went down on the blast going around a corner, I hit black ice, did not think about it because it was above freezing, no damage done, just was embarrassed, it was my street that I did it on. there are andrews cams on ebay for the blast, and was wondering if I should bid on them? what is the most you can do for a modified stock bore race bike? thanks guys. Mike

OUCH!!!!

Sorry to hear that Swampy... is the bumper and door OK?
LOL... sorry I had to do it!

Hope you are OK! I did one of those graceful jeep exits last night at the mall. I was getting out of the jeep, put one foot on the pavement (ice) and it slid under the jeep. So there I was, flat on my back in the lot, one leg under the jeep the other leg still in the jeep. The only thing I really hurt was my pride!

The B50 cam fills in the bottom and mid - does little for the top end brings your torque up a tad, and if you are free breathing enough then the results become quite impressive - at least compared to stock.

The B50's (or Buell Pro Series) are the only cams that will bolt into a stock Blast engine. Anything else will need springs and guides (or modified guides).
The B50's run nicely up to 7500 rpm in any gear but 5th. It struggles past peak power in 5th gear (the drop off is about 3HP between 6800 and 7500rpm).

"What is the most you can do for a modified stock bore race bike?"
How much money ya got?! Cams, piston, headwork, ignition, carb. Its good to have a plan. $1000 or $2000 will get you basically the same engine, just one will be more friendly to further modifications. The cheap way is to get the top end and cams off an XB. But good used XB top end parts are not always available (though I've gotten them-check the Badweb classifieds).

My opinion: B50 cams, high rev valve springs, 10.5:1 piston and a Screamin Eagle ignition is a good start. Getting the redline up to 7500 rpm (stock is 6500) really makes a huge difference on the track. With a broad torque/HP curve (isnt that what a Buell is all about?) and the extra 1000rpm makes coming through the turns a whole lot nicer.
After that you may want to give the suspension a going over. (The common advice is to forget power and work on the suspension, that will make you faster. The Blast however begs for more power.)
More importantly, just get out on the track. See if you like it before dumping loads of money into your bike.

Thats my opinion, but I'm Slooow!

The belly pans in the picture (previous page) are modified Tuber Buell belly pans. www.airtech-streamlining.com sells them,$131.They're listed in the 'links' section.

A gutted stock Blast exhaust would make an excellent belly pan (except for the weight) or an excellent form for making one. As long as it holds 2.5 quarts of oil it would likely pass tech (it may not cover enough of the engine though).

OK thanks Gearheaderiko, the money depends on my son, I bought him the bike to learn on, then when he gets confident he will switch to the ulysses I gave him for lending me the money to buy the 1125R, he say's he wants to race, and I had planned on going to race school this spring, and this is why I bought the 1125R, to get my licence and do track days but not race. He wants me to customize the ulysses, which I am really good at doing. I grew up with single cyclender bikes, rode a four cyclender once and did not like it, but I did get to the point of needing more power and moved up to the sportsters in 1982, so I know the bikes engines good, and can work on them. I have always wanted a big bore single like a 750cc or larger, found out recently that suzuki had a 800cc, but do not know if that bike was for sale in the USA. When my son said he wanted to get a motorcycle I knew the blast was the righe decision, because of it size and power, and I can work on it, I grew up with sportsters, right now the bike is purple, and he hates the color, and wants it black, which is no proublem I use truck bed liner paint on my bikes, it has a texure to it and is flat black and tough, so my plan is to watch ebay and get parts when they are available, strip the bike down, and clean and inspect it, and go from there. I would like him to race, and I think you are right that if I raced the blast, it would make me a better street rider and would make me better at track days on the 1125R. I think if I can get the bike looking real good, I think he might want to put money into it and race, and that would be good for the both of us, I got to get him on these forums, so he can talk to you guys, and get him away from the vidio games? thanks guys and have a good holidays. Mike

I got to meet Tim Grissom today - pretty cool - he didn't even know Buell made a single, but he told me about the XR750 and racing in the day - a totally cool person - I really enjoyed the chance meeting - my garage was open and he was walking by - visiting family he said - and saw the bikes and asked if they where Buells and if so where is the rear cyl.s - I told him somebody stole it - he laughed - it was a really cool chance meeting!

Fluid too high in the primary - the clutches are usually bullet proof.

The clutch IS bulletproof!

The Big Kid got his so hot one time from slipping it that it would not move with the clutch out and in gear.
I changed the primary fluid, adjusted the clutch and everything was OK, and that was over 15,000 miles ago.

The tightness? Look for the clutch cable being pinched up by the triple trees. Then check the lever pivot, and then the parts in the primary.

Merry Christmas fellow Thumpers!

Only 3 more months and I will be riding again! Tis' the season in this artic wasteland, but somebody has to keep the border secure from the invading Canadians!

Thanks guys. Today is my sons first real ride, I bought the blast for him for his 18th birthday, which was november 1st, I wanted to make it a special day for him because he was turning into a man at 18, and figured this would be the one thing he would remember for the rest of his life. Today is another special day, we went for his first real ride, and he can not stop talking about it. I am giving him my ulysses because he lent me the money to buy the 1125R, so now we will have three bikes and no cars, he has no interest in cars like me. I am keeping the blast and want to do something with it, we do not have allot of money and my son wants the ulysses customized so that will take up my time and money, but will be working on the blast to at the same time, I can not wait to he gets good and we can tour together and would maybe set up the blast as a race bike? or a bobber? time will tell, thanks for your advice guys I got to change the tranny oil and want to adjust the clutch and other things to get it to shift better, I painted the gas tank cover and front fender black truck liner paint, it was purple and my son did not want it purple so this looks better, now got to take the tail section off and paint that, I put black duct tape on it for know so it is looking better, got the exhaust on that I picked up for 25 dollars and a windshield I also got on ebay, he is getting my heated vest and gloves, I bought first gears jacket and gloves and gerbings pant liners and socks, I like to go riding when it is very cold as long as the streets are clear I will ride, plus I use the ulysses for shopping with its hard bags, so merry Christmass guy's and I hope the new year is going to be a better year. Just wanted to say hi, im from central new york (syracuse area) and bought a buell blast and love it ! Its dead of winter here and am getting everything all set and ready. I have a few questions though:

is 1700 dollars a bad price i paid for an 04 5500 miles buell blast?

Also what do they max speed wise out at ?

I just ordered the jardine exhaust, new blinkers all around, oil change, tranny flush, mt75 pirelli tires and clutch adjusment. Also got 45/170 jets for the carb

what shouldi expect out of the pierllis and the exhaust, new jetting ?

Thanks a ton ! Chris

Yes - you got a good deal! Welcome to the BADWEB - the Pirelli are sticky from the go - very reassuring and now the Factory recommended tire - life is only a little over 2500 in the rear but worth it, Don't forget to shim the needle - 2 #6 washers will get you close enough to .05 and the response difference is worth the extra effort to do it - also if your doing exhaust alone - that jetting is fine.

Concur!
Good deal. 96mph max speed. Pirellis are the best or at the very least, infinitely better than the Dunlops-you'll really like them.
The exhaust change is the most bang for your buck, performancewise. No other easy or popular mod will increase power as much as changing the exhaust.
Welcome Chris!

Somewhere around here it's already been posted, but I lost it. Searching for Deutsch didn't work, either. www.deutsch.net is where I'm starting my search ...
