Usually the Blast is very dependable - I'm sorry to hear yours has such a history (read profile also), a very small minority have had troubles with their Blasts, but usually once the problem is resolved they end up Blasting down the road with a bike that is dependable to say the least. I hope that its smooth sailing for you now though.

It's just so Frustrating right now with the blast but like i said i love it. It's just now there is a ticking in the front end of the bike and i swear anything else goes wrong with this bike it is going off a cliff. I just don't want to give my Gizmo up it sounds awesome with the kerker when it runs it's a great bike and i am still not flat footed on the bike but it fits me it's the only bike that i have ever owned that almost fits. I am just not willing to give up on it just yet. BUT it is still pissing me off. Oh well i guess all bikes have problems.

Littleone-

I had on '01 Blast. The motor dropped a valve before the break-in was done. This COULD have been the only problem the bike had - BUT...

Despite my firm beliefs of not letting anyone else wrench on my vehicles, computers, guitars, etc, I was trying to allow the whole new bike warranty thing to save me serious bucks. In the process, the dealership trying to get my Blast fixed LEFT AT LEAST ONE MORE THING SCREWED UP each time they tried to remedy a problem. It was really sad.

Yes, there was a MAJOR defect with the original motor - and that was it. It could've been taken care of in 2 weeks had the dealership LISTENED to what I described to them. Even all the people on this board told me that these motors were inherently noisy and assumed that I was just hearing normal noise.

However, that was the ONLY defect in that bike. All of the problems that followed were the aftermath of UNBELIEVABLY poor dealer workmanship, coupled with what I believe is a dislike by many techs of Buells (especially Blasts) and Buell riders (especially Blast riders). It made for just about the WORST new vehicle ownership experience I can imagine.

In the end, I expressed to the selling and (mis)servicing dealership that I paid for a NEW motorcycle to experience the NEW VEHICLE OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE and that I had unfortunately NOT gotten what I'd paid for as a result of their poor workmanship. I simply STATED to them that after 6 months of dealing with problem after problem, they WOULD give me a brand new Blast.

I was very calm (amazingly) and very polite - but also very firm. The owner of the dealership was aware of my trials and probably knew that I was just bored enough to push this to legal action. A week later I rode my new 2002 Blast home.

Are you certain that your bike is ill because of Buell? I'd bet the majority of its problems are dealer induced.

Start a new thread someplace and share.

I have an 01' Blast since April 01, I have not had ANY problems with it at all mechanically, (knock on wood) A few vibrations loosened parts here n there, the muffler bracket on the original boat anchor broke, no big deal until the pipe broke from the muffler at the weld bead. Just had to spend the dollahs for the V&H system. I go along with the Lemon law. Get yerself a spankin new Blast!!

On dealers ...Let me put it this way... my dealer went all the way out for me. Even though my Engine failure was ultimately due to a material and workmanship issue from the vendor, The Installing Dealer reimbursed half the cost of the original parts and labor ... they met me half way 'cause they care about their customers. I didn't even have to fight with them about it. I explained my feelings on the matter and asked them to simply do what's fair and right all the way 'round. We all know that things happen, what matters is what someone is willing to do about it to make it right again.

The vendor on the other hand still hasn't committed to anything except that they'll 'look at it' even though they admitted fault in the assembly of their parts.

Otherwise I have to agree with Saro on the perceived dealer/tach apathy towards the Blast. BUT, the important thing is to find a dealer that will work with you.

LittleOne ...I do recall that the Blast always did make a faint tick-tick-tick noise that you can make out at idle ...to me it almost sounds like the ticking of fuel injectors you'd hear if ya stuck your head under the hood of newer cars. Anyone else care to comment on the NATURAL/NORMAL sounds of the 492?

Littleone,

First of all don't give up on her she's a good bike and will serve you well. Having said that I would if possible lift the front end of the bike off the ground. Spin the front wheel by hand and if it doesn't spin easily by hand or you feel any vibrations as the wheel turns have the wheel bearings checked immediately. Otherwise that tiking is most likely top-end noise of expansion/cotraction of the header pipe both fairly normal.

Now what I should have asked first. Do you here this at slow riding, at an idle after a cold start, or at an idle after riding for awhile? If it's slow riding check the wheel bearings. If it's after a cold start, then then self-adjusting lifters haven't adjusted themselves yet. If it's after riding then it's probably the header pipe. The first one is a serious problem and requires immediate attention. The other two are fairly normal and just enjoy the ride.

My Dealer has been wonderful through out this whole thing they have taken good care of me. They have gone the extra mile for me including giving me there demo bike when mine was in the shop. I have nothing against the dealer. It's just now when ever there is a new sound i get thinking that it is broken again. I just don't want my dealer getting pissed off at me because i keep bring the cursed bike back in all the time.
The ticking in the front end of the bike just appeared so i get this sinking feeling that again there is something wrong with it. I might add that the bike did quite well on a 2000km rode trip just recently. But that is when it Developed this tick then the belt started to squeal and the bolts under the gas tank in by the seat were loose ( sorry i don't know the technical name for them) so you can understand my frustration with this bike.

Littleone,

The loose bolts, that's the nature of the beast. I regularly go over mine and check for things that shack loose. After that long of a ride it's not unreasonable to have to tighten a few. The belt squeal is a new one on me so I can't help you there. The ticking could be either a touch low on oil, or could be time to change the oil if you had several km on it before the trip. Other than the belt itdoesn't sound like any major problems by the sound of things. Let the tech at your dealer take a look and if nothing else it will give you piece of mind. A good dealership which sounds like you have won't have any problem with doing that. That's just good customer service.

As you ride the bike more you will be able to do more and more of the diagnostics yourself and you'll take it in less and less. If any of this sounds like I'm putting you down I'm not. I've been riding for just under 40 years and I'm continually learning more and more.

I would recommend that you talk with the tech anytime you get service done. The explanations that you receive greatly increase the knowledge that you receive on each visit. I would also recommend a few tools if you don't have them already as those aren't the last bolts that will shake loose. Just part of the joy of riding motorcycles of any size, brand or style.

I've done some pretty extensive researching, but I can't seem to find out if there was ever a factory pink blast. A local Harley/Buell dealership has an online showroom, and the blast looks pink. I think it may be a colour correction issue, as the stripes on the Arizona flag look kinda pink, but I don't know. So was there ever a pink blast?

yeah that thing looks close to the pink triumph was using. but yeah its just the lighting that has messed up the color in the pic. i like the idea of the white actic blast maybe with a nuke blue frame and wheels? oh and come stock with rearsets and lower bars (Superbike/S1 bars)hmmmm that would look preatty damn good. oh and can't forget a lil hotter suspetion maybe the works setup

Does anyone know of a shop that makes a nice looking rear belt sprocket for the Blast? That plastic covered thing that comes on the bike looks pretty cheezy! I love the no-maint belt setup, so I don't want to switch to a chain. Maybe if there is enough interest Banke, Crossroads, etc will produce them? -chuck

LOL...before I bought my Blast I was given a catalogue of the bikes and stuff available for it...had my heart set on a white Blast, just like one in one of the pics...then I was told they didn't make them and that must have been a yellow one and it was just a black and white picture...so I bought the black one instead!

LBB...impressions on your Pro-Series stuff?

Well with all the rain we've had here lately, I have felt the need to park the bike and start building an Ark for nothing but Buell's. When the rain does stop there will be no cager's or any other bike's on the road, nothing but Buell's running the roads of this wonderful country.I will let a few paving truck on the Ark, so we can have some nice smooth twisties to ride on.

"...LBB...impressions on your Pro-Series stuff?..."

Darthane, only got to get 125 miles on it so far but it is definitely an improvement, make that a noticeable improvement. You know that mid range flat spot on stock bikes? Well now, at just about the same spot it pulls nice and hard, feels like that is where it gets on the cam. I can say that from the seat of the pants it feels just as strong as the 515 did. (My 515 build did not have the cam, only Stg3 Head, high comp piston and overbore cylinder). One really cool thing I like about the exhaust is the ceramic coating. I brushed against it about 10 minutes after riding and it only felt "warm" noticeably cooler than the cylinder head ...neat -> P.S. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME - NEVER GRAB A HOT PIPE!!

So the set up is now: Pro-Series Cam, Pro-Series Exhaust, SE Prog Ignition Module, K&N Breather and DynoJet Kit. Anyone know where to get the Computer link cable and software for the SE Module?
