I had 3 times as much exhaust ceramic coated for $140. The blast should be $50. (though some/most places charge a minimum).
Search for powder coating or Embee on the web.

Check out Moore Power coatings, they're in Nebraska and do some wonderful work with ceramic high temp stuff in several colors. They did the headpipe for my 4wheeler for like 40 bucks (can't remember exact $) but super fast turn around and way cheaper than the Jet Hot route.

Hey guys, I need to do some head picking about installing my Vance and Hines system. Went to install it today, was told to use the stock hardware. Didnt like the way it was going to end up, so I'm getting shorter bolts and doing it right. The main question, could someone show me how the headpipe and can mount? what I'm seeing it doesn't mount to the motor anymore, is this correct? It looks to me like there needs to be something there, so I'm thinking I'll fab up an aluminum tab to go from the tab on the motor to the clamp. Pictures or advice would be appreciated!

It mounts at the front stock lower location (with the rubber and spacers) and mounts in the back where the stock muffler mounted with a much smaller bracket.
So it mounts in all the same places as stock. Perhaps you're missing brackets?

I must be missing something. Id really appreciate any photos anyone has. Either way, looks like I'll be fabbing up something

Mabuller, Rustoleum Hi-Temp 7778 Bar-B-Q Black, been on for a few months now. Seems to holding up well. The header pipe and can were looking bad.

Before pics, the pipe was looking pretty bad
and the can had gone real dull.

Thanks MM, I'm missing the piece you have on your headpipe area. I guess that gives me one more thing to do. I'll be digging through the scrap pile at the shop and come up with something.

Mmelvis, Thanks for the response. Did you do anything to treat the header and can before painting it? I had bought the same paint a couple weeks ago when I had the exhaust off for repacking but I was concerned the paint would flake off. I may need to reconsider.

Mabuller just followed the instructions on the can. Prep work on the rusty header pipe, wet sand with sand paper fine grit ( got the paper wet), scotch brite pad, washed with dish soap, rinse, dry with hair dryer. Tape off ends of header with blue painters tape where I do not want paint. Sprayed on paint, no flaking just some fading up near the engine end. To clean I wipe down with a damp cloth and soap if needed, then rinse.

Pulled the WB can off the red to fix some loose rivets this weekend and out of curiosity I put the D&D can on the WB header, lined it up and bolted it on as if it was made to do that! Damn! I like it! Quieter than the whole D&D system, yet a world more umph - this was the exhaust I was trying to have them build in the first place! A bit more top with no discernible loss in the bottom. I just may stay with this combo! Pics this weekend!

I call this a poor man's Force, a bit quieter, deeper than the stock D&D, with all the rush of the WB/Jardene header and the added bonus of a bit more top end rush - too funny to me - I am definitely the Forest Gump of Blasts - I've stumbled across more things to improve Blast performance than anyone, I'm adding this to my book - pipe lines up perfectly, no cutting nesc.,I've gained a can that will only need paint touch ups for maintenance as well. I really can't tell you enough good about this combo - I call it a poor man's Force - lol - both new would cost around 400, a Force new was going for 550 to 650 - depending who was selling it - yet I am still looking for mounting weld tab failures to develop on the Force - maybe never since I custom mounted it, using hardware I adapted to the job, still I see almost infinite longevity in this combo. system being possible - well at least more so than either separately -
The Poor man's Force - lol

This is where D&D is missing out - several of us petitioned D&D to come out with a 1 3/4" header to complement their can - for an excellent performance combo - they said not enough interest - sigh - they would have sold tons more than they did!
Sweet!

I just picked up an exhaust for my blast. It is new, never installed, it came in a "Hooker" box but it appears to be the Buell pro exhaust. Stepped header from 1 1/2 to 1 5/8 then to 1 3/4 then splits to two pipes and dual mufflers. I'm not sure if I'm impressed with the mufflers, there is a "dome" a couple inches in which directs the exhaust outside of the inner tube, I would assume through some packing. The insides are not removable and I can't see very far into either end.
EZ.... Forrest Gump! LOL!!!
I get the impression that you have owned almost every exhaust that exists for a blast. I'm contemplating making my own header and muffler. I have a band saw, wire-feed and a drill-press, mandrel bends and tubes are cheap. I've been reading a lot about chambered or baffled mufflers v.s. "glass packs" and the pros and cons of each. Size, packing material, spacing of the baffles and even spacing and size of the holes make a difference in sound, turbulence, and back pressure. Do you have, or can you take some pictures of the internals of some of your mufflers, perhaps with a tape measure lying alongside of it? Anyone? Has anyone opened up a stock exhaust? Pictures? I'm trying to get a good idea of what works and which direction to go in. What would your "dream" blast exhaust be? I'll see if I can make one or two prototypes before summer. Anyone have access to a dyno?

It is the Pro Series, which is a superb exhaust for a stock Blast. It limits the potential for further mods however (it is my favourite though).
Buellistic has complete knowledge of the stock exhaust.
EZ can tell you the perfect 'average Blast' exhaust (it can depend on practicality, cost, and usage).
The following portion of the exhaust thread will answer some of your questions:

It may generate more questions too!

1 3/4 id by 34" to 36", with no hard bends, with the can of your choice - not much back pressure is needed so stuffing/packing/baffles is a noise preventive in all actuality - the few bends adding enough back pressure - I like the D&D can which is a lot like the Bub or Force can - no packing required - except to make it quieter. The V&H front lower mount is ideal for problem free usage and a straight tab from the middle of the can up to a bolting mount point would be best for the rear.

It was on Ebay, listed as "blast exhaust", there was no other description, but the picture looked / sounded like what I have heard you all talk about (the "hooker" box was in the pic so I thought it was something new) I watched it for a couple days and couldn't believe no one snapped it up, I WAS THE ONLY BID. I will keep you in mind if I decide to pass it along. I am seriously thinking about making my own exhaust. I just wish I knew what the insides of THESE and some OTHER mufflers looked like.

I really just gave you all you needed - the WB/Jardine/Force/D&D/V&H all have similar bend styles with the bottom length being the difference between them besides mounting, and the can - being dependent on how quiet you want it to be. The quieter it becomes the less power you will have in the end.

Hi Ez

A friend of mine has the Jardine, I was thinking of copying that or the PRO except maybe make it all 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 instead of stepping it, though from a welding and fabbing standpoint the steps would make it easier to put together. You are right about the bend styles, those two are very close. What I'm really interested in is seeing muffler guts!

Unless you copy the steps exactly its not going to do much good, just go with the 1 3/4" (less work, just as good performance).
All the cans are basically the same straight through design, except the Pro Series has 2 mufflers that are more like quality aftermarket Harley mufflers (or older style stock mufflers) with baffles.

Just how much did you get that PS exhaust for?

Kimbo: The Jardine exhaust with the 'quiet core' insert is your best current aftermarket bet for a quiet exhaust. The Buell Pro Series has been discontinued and the White Brothers tends to be even less reliable when quieted down (also discontinued).
Unfortunately, since the exhaust exit is right below your ears, any change in exhaust may seem very loud to you.

Of the three exhausts, V&H, Jardine, and D&D. Which gives the best combination of performance & sound without sounding like straight pipes?
