I got the 24 foot van truck unloaded at the daughters storage shed and loaded all of her working gear into her salon, I have to go back there tomorrow to hook up the work stations and a bunch of other crap. Snow and cold for my immediate future. Yes, I am jealous of you west coast guys, you all ought to come see the west coast of Michigan some time, its really quite nice in August..... | ||

EZ Only for the mountains, I've got roads here that are just as good and your state's politics make be happy to live in the "Liberal" east (and I am a conservative) BTW the high on Wednesday is supposed to be 20 degrees. | ||

yeah the Harley crowd in my building wimped out in October but me and the VFR guy have been riding daily. In truth I am always in a much better mood when I ride to work compared to driving. I have only driven on days I needed to move something large (like a suitcase when I was leaving for 2 weeks) of when it was threatening to have freezing rain (I admit it was COLD AND WET not my favorite conditions) but that adds up to a handful of days since June that I've rolled on 4 wheels instead of 2. And yes I treat the fair weather riders with a great deal of disdain but the truth is there is a lot less clutter of any kind on the roads now and until there is a snowstorm it will stay that way, they just don't know what they are missing. I am a little worried about Wednesday's high of 21F I'm not so sure I'll be riding but that really depends on how well Turtle starts (Message edited by Xgecko on January 15, 2007) | ||

Thats why I nick named it the dark side - as in Dark shadows - foggy, etc - A false quote from Sam Clemens was - The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco - probably by some Floridian who was told Cali weather was like his but without the humidity - lol - well except for the mountains and the SF micro climate - he'd be right - GT - JBOTDS! All I know is on a cross country round trip (touring!) in August, the SF bay area was the coldest (during the day). | ||

I dont think there is one. EZ or Swampy will know where it is. I think you'll have to go by the manual (or EZ can tell you where the online manual may be, if you dont have one). | ||

Do you need dimensions for the tool? I am using a 4 1/8" long, 1/4" flat stock steel bar 1" wide. It has a slightly angled point on the ends angled probably 70 degrees, the oposite direction from the other side. I think a 2" wide one would be better as the excess would just hang out of the sprockets while you are tightening the crank nut. Don't forget to use brake clean to clean the oil off the nut and shaft and plenty of red Loctite. Also when you have the drive sprocket off take the little cover off the stator wires that is under the stator and chamfer the edges to keep them from wearing into the wire, then gob a bunch of silicone sealer under it to keep the wires from moving at all. Also remove the shifter pawl/shift drum retaining bolt and clean that and red loctite it(hey your in there anyways, might as well stop any problems before it happens) And Yes Buellistic, you probably do have the best riding weather in Florida. God hates us here in Michigan. | ||

No, the best riding weather is, without question, Southern California (specifically LA,Orange,Riverside and San Diego counties). If it rains (maybe 12 days a year) it usually does so at night. There are NO bugs and no humidity, EVER! Buying a house under a half million $$$ is another story! | ||

Don't use a rattle gun to take the nut off, you stand a chance of breaking the magnets on the inside of the flywheel. | ||

just thought I,d let the group know when I got to the stator three of the four nuts holding it in place were sheared of . my 15 year old son is going to drill them out .Well post how this operation turns out . | ||

On second thought I am going to check with buell .I am heading to the ocala for a horse clinic .They have a buell dealer their.The harley dealer in dothan does not seem to buelish .Has any one else seen this .I was ready to go riding to . | ||

I was at the dealer in Dothan in September and one of the salesmen seemed really helpful, a couple of Ulys, a lightening, a Firebolt and a Blast, and they did have a 4X8 accessorie board with tee shirts and gloves, but.... I always find it easier to order the parts I need from one of the sponsers here on the Badweb, that way you don't have to deal with anykind of bad attitudes, and the part shows up at your door in a few days, where if you ordered it from a non-Buell friendly dealer, you wait for them to place the order, you wait for the part to arrive, you wait for them to call you, then you go pick it up. Now your problem: You found the bolts holding the stator broken? I havn't heard of that before. Check that the hub wasn't hitting the stator. Look for witness marks where anything might have hit the stator. | ||

THe magnets show a few chips nothing on the hub two small marks and I mean small . the bolts were in between the magnets .I went in to dothan and asked for jets 45/175 right away bad attude we dont have them .Then oh yes there was a change in 2003 and I got them . But your right I got the stator from Iron machine and clutch they were very helpful . | ||

Sorry, I should have clarified: Carb jets are available at any Harley type shop. The HD dealership parts departments usually charge way more, don't know where they are and have a bad attitude about small parts like jets because they look for them individualy in the parts book and not as part of a jetting kit. Any other parts...Badweb sponsers all the way! | ||

Its the fork stopper rings that hold the front fork springs in (instead of the usual thread in plug). I've tried to order them many times from different dealers and was always told they were unavailable (obsolete), but nobody could tell me why since they are still being used on the Blast. Well Dave at Appleton Buell/HD found some and found out that the reason they are obsolete is because the factory never got an inquiry or order for them. So they sold their supply stock as it was deemed unnecessary to keep them. I just wanted some extras on hand because they are incredibly easy to lose (especially when installing heavier springs) and they're not just your average hardware store part. The couple bearing shops I got too didnt list anything like them. I'm sure a good transmission/bearing supply place could have gotten them but I didnt see why I just shouldnt be able to order them from the parts book. | ||
