The locking tool is very reasonable from one of the board sponsers American Sport Bike, they have lots of stuff.

Well unfortunately, I am not staying long in the Promised Land. Got to get back to work on Tuesday!

I'm heading to Alabama tomorrow afternoon.

Allenbassin, when you go to change the carb jets you can get them from almost any Harley type motorcycle shop as the Blast uses just about the same CV carb as the Sportster.

Use a new, quality Torx bit.
Use an impact driver with a good quality bit.
Back up the Torx bit and wrench with a pair of vice grips on the bolt head.
Heat.
Penetrating oil.
Make sure the bolt head is clean.
Keep your weight down on it when turning to break free.

A more desperate measure is to grind flats on the bolt to get a better grip. Possibly a last resort, if the head is completely wasted, is to grind the head off and remove the pulley then go back to step 1 with the vice grips or welding a nut to it or drilling it out.

A sure way to mess it all up would be to use an e-z out!

Good luck!

Those have loctite on them you will need to use heat. Heat the bolt only, the heat will wick in making the loctite soft. Propane torch will do the trick, about 400 degrees, wont hurt the wheel.

Hey all. Brain picking time. I'm considering jumping ship and swapping over to a Zuki TL1000. Anyone had experiences with the TL? Second is about my Blast, it's an 01 with just under 1,000 miles on it. Superbike bars, spear turn signals, V&H exhaust, and velocity stack intake, what kind of $ would be a fair price for it?

2001 Blast $1500.

Suzuki TL1000? Who cares. This is an American motorcycle site!
Try http://www.tl1000.com/main.htm

Seriously, why not a big Buell?

And, really seriously, do you think you're really ready to 'move up' to a big sportbike with just under 1000 miles of road experience?
I have no idea how long you've been riding or how many motorcycles you've owned, I just hate seeing people get killed or seriously hurt because they decided to 'move up' without any real experience. My apologies if this post seems offensive.

Weather.....OK on the one hand it's 55degrees in January which could make for great riding, sadly it's raining and though I don't mind rain it's not a favorite...So when you can't ride what's better to do than work on your bike. I got a set of BMW handguards from my dad and a 1'x2' blanket of "Superwool 607max" for repacking my WB can.

The handguards were fairly easy though I did have to mod the bar ends to fit (BMW bars have threaded ends to their handlebars) but that was easy and given their weight should help with vibration. And I had to build an extension plate to clamp over/around the brake reservoir. I have numerous aluminum plates of various sizes kicking around so that was easy enough. Repacking my WB on the other hand...was a true PITA. My last adventure in repacking at least left me prepared and knowledgeable for what I needed to do and how to do it. Opening up the can again I was able to see what 3000miles did to the Stainless Steel Wool (restaurant scrubbers). As it turned out better than I expected and not as well as I was lead to believe. About half the wool had been carbonized and was very very brittle the rest seemed to disintegrate as I tried to remove it. Well that explains the increased noise lately. Superwool is an interesting substance, it molds easy enough though it's hard to control since you have to wear gloves. I have been told that one should wear a mask and gloves when working with it so I did. No idea what's in it just that's it's rated to 2000degrees, and most of the Thumper guys on AVDrider who have used it swear buy it. So I wrapped and stuffed and used all but about 6"x12" of my blanket. Then riveted the whole thing back together and reinstalled it. A quick turn of the key confirms that it's hugely quieter (something the dog even confirmed when it took her longer to recognize that it was me). If the weather gives me a break this weekend than I will get out to try it otherwise Tuesday's commute will be the first time I get a quieter ride...Yeah I know I really need to post some pictures especially with all the work I have to done to my little turtle over the last few months. Again as soon as I get good weather I will shoot and post them

hello all... new to the forum.

i've been sneaking around for a few weeks now, and after reading about the blast and other "beginner" bikes, i've really become enamored by the buell.

no, i don't ride (the result of being a broke college student), but i am insistent on getting a bike one day! i'm really into old school british bikes/cafe racers, and often drool over custom modern day (sv650/blast/ninja) reinterpretations of the style.

and yes, EZ, i got thump.

Xgecko, I would like to see your hand guards- any pics? I went to the Harley dealer yesterday. The big Uly is so pretty. Then I realize I could buy like 6 used Blasts for the same money and I think I will live with what I have... maybe modify to make it what I want, and I think I might want handguards...thanks!

haha well, i have money to buy one, but that goes for books and what not.

i'll stick to my mountain bike and saving pictures on my computer till then.

one question: how is your insurance? i understand that the majority of the people here are experienced riders, and a good deal older than i am, but at least i can have some idea.

funny Esteban, freezing is Thursday morning when the temp on my ride in was 18 degrees. Heated grips were sooooooo welcome. The rest of me was fine however which actually surprised me. Though there are other parts of the USA that are colder very few offer the reality of near year round riding like the northeast.

Foremost Insurance (a division of Farmers).
I do get a multi policy, multi vehicle, good driver, MSF course, & AMA discount.
I called HD insurance and they gave me 3 quotes from different companies and Foremost was the best and since I already had Farmers I called my agent and he switched it over. My policy is now yearly instead of every 6 months and I'm getting more coverage for less money.

Cold?? I'll tell you about COLD. The Governator had to call a state of emergency here the last few days because it got down BELOW freezing here at night !!!
It barely got above 50 degrees on Saturday. I had to put on a jacket at work (for awhile).
Oh, and believe it or not, I RODE to work.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself, but they did call for a state of emergency!!!
