Actually (Steve) the Blast sprocket is larger than what came originally on the Blast (2000 model year was 73 teeth, later is 80 teeth).
If you re geared (primary or trans) the Blast for a 73 then the 80 would be lower gearing but
since the 73 tooth is somewhat unreliable and certainly unavailable thats not an option unless you want to have someone make a 73 tooth out of aluminium, but then thats really going to up the price, but I do have a 73 tooth if you get somebody who wants to do it! There's certainly a market for 73's on the street. |

i bought mine late fall (cold here in mass)and i live 45 mins from the nearest highway . damn i spend most of my time riding in first gear!!!! i think i've hit 3rd gear like 2-3 times since i bought the dang thing . besides the riding/commuting i do on it requires a lot of 0-15 mph crap .
love the belt just hate the gearing  |

Off The Wall Idea of the Day:
Would old style Harley drum brake sprockets lend themselves to this conversion better than a traditional sprocket due to the unconventional attachment points on the Blast wheel? There would still be an adapter, but it might not have to be as "substantial" as an adapter for a traditional sprocket.
I haven't ever had one in my hands and don't know what kind of tooth count is available, and they are probably only for 530 chains. This "brainstorm" came to me while I was looking at the article on Chica's Knuckle powered Cafe bike in the Jan. issue of American Iron.

Not a bad idea, but I dont think they go big enough (at least I dont think the big ones would be available anymore). |

The 73 would only put top speed at a little over 100mph (104?) as opposed to 96mph. |

EZ It depends on what you want to do.
I'd go with the smallest engine sprocket possible, probably 19 teeth. This gives you smaller wheel sprockets for a given ratio, and we like smaller for weight and availability reasons.
19/56 would be real close to stock
19/53 would be a 6% overdrive and give lower your freeway rpm for better freeway milage and give you a higher top speed.
19/51 would be a 10% overdrive and closer to stock 2000 gearing.
19/60 Would give you more low end grunt and off the line acceleration but cut about 6% off your top end with stock rev limit.
So, if wanted to be a stoplight junkie and around town Blaster, I'd probably go 15/60.
If I wanted to go cross country, I'd go 19/53.

Thanks James - next would be to figure out how thick the adapter/spacer for the rear sprocket has to be, and its width to bolt on a rear gear with a couple or three washers to give space for chain. Then I'll start looking at XB chain tensioners to wrap it up smoothly - lol - the Chain Gang Blastards -
