Howdy Bikers
Just wanted to post I have 2 Left/Shift side footpeg brackets (Y shaped part).
The story behind this is, last summer some jerk ran into my bike knocking it over, then continued to back onto it! So I find one on Ebay, ask prior to bidding if it is bent, guy says no, get the part. It is now 4 months later, finally above freezing...in Michigan, I put the bracket on and it is bent! I email the Seller remind him of the deal, he says he will replace it, shows me a pic of 2 parts marked A or B, well when the parts are off the bike laying next to each other, they are very similar. He sends me the one I pick, it arrives and it is the wrong one! I contact him again, told him I would be willing to pay all the shipping and exchange the part, he replies with profanity and name calling. He was wrong to begin with but that is how I now have 2 brackets. Left side bent, Right side not bent. Does anyone want to trade/exchange, I have high seat, low seat original seats, or brackets, or airbox, whatever. I will pay for Left/Shift side bracket too if ya got one. Just wanted to throw it out there, and thought starting a new thread maybe folks that are building bikes or have spare parts laying around etc. could check here.
Buell Onnnn!

What a jerk - you're too cute to cuss at! : )

When I got my bike, the brackets on both sides were bent inwards, like from the bike falling over on the riders pegs (the parts that hold the passenger pegs looked okay).

I have some heavy-duty ratcheting tie downs that I use to secure a car on a trailer (a cable come-along would also work).

I parked the bike perpendicular between two trees, and looped a rope around the end of one bracket and the tree on that side (several times around, for maximum strength). Then I hooked the tie-down between the other tree and the bracket on the other side, and started ratcheting it tight. As it got tighter, I had to scoot the bike around to keep it upright and perpendicular to the rope and tie-down.

The brackets stretched outwards quite a bit, but when I released the tension they sprung back... but not as far back as they had been. After stretching and releasing the tension again, one side was perfect. I moved the rope up higher on that side, away from the tip of the bracket. That kept that side from getting stretched out any further, since the pull on the other side would have more leverage. One or two more pulls had the other side stretched out to where it needed to be - the whole process took about 15 minutes.

There are a couple things to watch out for. If the rope or pulling device on either side were to break or slip, the bike would be pulled over HARD to the opposite side, and probably do some damage. If a person was standing or kneeling next to the bike when that happened, they could be severely injured. Also, It is probably possible to damage the frame by pulling TOO hard on the brackets - the area where the brackets are attached could be bent or deformed. I didn't measure, but my guess is that I had to pull the brackets about an inch past where they were straight, but maybe it wasn't that much. I tried to take it slow and not pull any harder than necessary.

The pegs are still not exactly horizontal, I think due to wear at the pivot points and on the stamped metal ends of the pegs (new pegs helped a little, for a little while). I figured I could make some little crimp-on shims that would hold the pegs up at a slightly higher angle, but it hasn't bothered me enough to motivate me to do it yet. So far I have only dragged a foot once, and that was with a fat steel-toed boot under the shifter.

Buellkat,
How badly are the brackets bent?

I have bent them straight again when they were on the bike.

Also, I don't understand your post, do you have an extra stock air box you want to sell? Monday May 8th, a group of us are expecting to stop in White Cloud on our way back from Iron Mountain. Maybe if you want to sell it I could pick it up then.

How badly bent? Just cosmetic or twisted? (I found mine worked better with the slight inward bend!).
I do have an extra set so we might be able to work out a trade (assuming mine are perfect).
Unless someone else has a trade.

The left side (both) are bent, so that there is about a 1/4 inch clearance from touching the primary cover case. Your left foot has to be at almost an angle using the outside of your left boot. The right side is also bent towards the case but a little more clearance, maybe 1" at most. I did try to bend it back in a bench vise but like Berk said, it springs back. I then tried backing over it with my truck, I was worried about bending the bolts that mount to the bike but I positioned it so that would'nt happen. It did'nt work either. The idea of tying it to a tree and using a come-along and ratchet straps isn't a bad idea but hmmm.......
ERIK I don't believe they are twisted. An exchange would be kewl, I am not looking for perfect cosmetic-wise, just not bent (LOL)
SWAMPY It's the original airbox, I removed it and put an adapter on the carb for a K&N filter and rerouted all the hoses. I did not alter the airbox at all. Meeting up in White Cloud sounds like a plan.

I think we will be coming through White Cloud on Monday probably about 11-12. Is there going to be the community "Food Fling" this year? It coincides with the Blessing of the Bikes in Baldwin.

Some times the frame that the foot pegs attaches to gets bent and that has to be straightened also. I believe I had the Big Kid hold the bike down and I pried up on the foot peg bracket mounted in place on the bike with a big bar chained to the foot peg bracket. Also the stock foot pegs are rubber and get worn out and ride in a downward sort of angle. Probably metal ones would not do this.

OK Swampy, pick a place and I will meet you with the Airbox. We can figure the price off board. As far as the frame, or footpegs, I can see the bend in the metal where the jerk ran my bike over, the other one I don't see the bend but when mounted sits just as close, no footpeg on it. I did try bending it with a bar in the vice, I will give it a shot on the bike. btw Thks all

Buellkat how does the passenger portion of the left side look? I just put on rearsets and was going to cut off the rider section of the stock brackets, and just put the passenger section back on. If the passenger section is ok on yours, I could trade with ya. I havent cut anything yet, I was waiting on weather or not I liked to bankes. I will be with swampy when he comes through whitecloud. I have to stop off at a friends house just off of crystal lake down the street from I think loves resort.

Erik thanks but it looks like Jugallo has an idea.
Jug The passenger part is fine, it's the forward part for the footpeg/shifter section that bent. If you are around my area that will work great. I know where Crystal Lake is. Thanks again everyone.

The tank has got some scratching around the B in Buell. Still looks good. (shines!).
The tail has a 6" grind along the left edge where it meets the seat and a 1" spot to the lower left. I can send you pictures if you want. Looking at getting the going rate for black in this condition (but not gouging anyone).

As always offering it up to friends first before it goes ebay. I need to get some money back on parts and I really dont need 4 sets of bodywork!

I'm interested in the tail section if it is black. I thought this was sold already so I didn't say anything before.

How bad is the grind? Let me know...

Thanks

Blck tailpiece

Black tail grind spots. Sanding the grind smooth would help a lot. These are the only scratches.

Hmmm....That's a pretty good rash. I would of course be chopping it off to go on my bike, so I'm not bothered that there is damage, I'm just concerned that I wouldn't be able to restore it... I might be better off sticking with my yellow one and attempting to repaint that. How much did you want for it?
