Just to clear up some confusion:
I built/assembled the engine and necessary non stock mods. I own the bike.
However, NRHS did the headwork and cylinder bore (which I credit for its minimal use of oil). And credit also goes to EZ,Ray(Blast sidecar record holder), Spooky (Eric), James, Matty, Ernie (Glendale),Saro,(even)Ralph and everybody else here at Badweb for ideas, help, research, obsession, etc.

The goal is still to build an 'off the shelf'reliable, accessible, hi-po Blast. The fact that the bike/engine is really nothing special is testament to Matty's racing ability.

A lot of the fun is sitting around with James and brainstorming on improving what Buell started. We've implemented a few ideas already and have few more in the works.

PS Its really freak'in cool to see a mostly stock Blast beat the Honda's and a trick S1 P3! Thanks Matty.

James says The track is so wide. I have nothing to compare it to except maybe the 18 up to Big Bear, without lanes, and smoother…
Wow, you are very right on the money there! I'd forgot all about that road.
James kicked much butt this weekend. It's a giant step from street rider to racer guy. And it's even more of a challenge to do so on a 30 hp bike on a "horsepower track".
Hopefully this thread doesn't sound like a bunch of patting ourselves on the backs. What I hope to accomplish is to encourage some more Blast/XB/Etc. riders to get out there and muck it up on the track!

Heck yeah Matty!

I think your results show a couple BIG things:

1) you can have a kick-(3 red asterisks here) good time

and

2) you can WIN on the Blast

3) It is FUUuuuunnnn!

AWESOME!! Somebody needs to post some vids from the pits! Or at least post some pictures of Matty on the podium!

Congratulations

Larry's offer to show (tow) me around the track is realy cool. I hope to learn a lot from him. The WSMC orginization has been nothing but supportive of me all race weekend. I'm looking forward to next month...

I was just wondering if with the other exhaust and if a little needle shimming happened to clean up that middle?

I don't think that Erik messed with the carb at all since the dyno run... The bike runs nice and strong. BTW, that run is with the current superlong exhaust.

Except for the exhaust (wrapped in tape) I havent done anything else to the breathing, or gotten another dyno run. At this point it runs well enough. The problem thats holding it back right now is the suspension. Getting the front dialed in with fork oil and shims. Making a shock compressor that works to change the pre load on the rear. (Progressive Suspension tools suck !).

CCS Racing 12-4-05 Homestead Florida...Last race of the season.

The day started out bright and the weather was a warm 70 plus degrees and the Blast was ready to run.

My first mistake of the day was going out in the wrong practice group. I went out with the 600 cc and higher group. By lap 2 in the practice session I am going down the front straight pounding the rev limiter and getting passed by bikes doing 130 plus. My lap times were 34 seconds slower than these larger bikes, but I can say I learned the correct lines to run by watching these bikes fly past me. I pulled off the track by lap 3 in the practice session. I did not want to get in the way of this group of riders.

Well a couple of hours later and after eating lunch it was time for my race. There were 2 waves in this race. The first wave was the USGPRU bikes, 2nd wave consisted of the Ultra Light Superbike class with Experts then Amateurs, back of the pack was the vintage class bikes. My starting position was row 10 of the 2nd wave and it sure looked like a long way to the front of the pack. The race started out quick and I was actually with the group up through turn 1 and 2 heading into the first back straight. This is when the 100+ speeds started to be achieved by the bikes in front of me, I could only watch as the bikes pulled away into the next turn, a nice 70+ turn. On to the next straight section of the track where the bikes are pulling further away, how I wished there were more turns on this track. Next a short left onto the back straight of the track, I get to pound the rev limiter through all gears in this section of the track at least. A quick left, left, right, and left onto the front straight of the track. Run down the front straight as quick as the bike will allow. Repeat process 5 more times. The USGPRU bikes were lapping me by at the mid point of lap 3 or 4, at least no bikes from my group lapped me and I did not see the vintage class pass me in this race. I had a great time only wish I could have taken more laps. So ends my first racing season, now I just need to get more track time under my belt.

Ready to race
Hopping to get some pictures from the track photographer. Have a great day

Nice flic! Totally cool! So how many raced in your group? Where did you place overall and was the field fast with all those straights? Looked like a heck of a lot of fun though!

EZ - The AM group there was 5 or 6 of us. The field was very fast, I think the next smallest bike was a Duc 788 ( Dump Truck is his nickname). I am sure I was last in my group for this race, I still need to work on my riding skills. I finally got to a point where I can brake properly going into a turn. I am still waiting for the final results to be posted on the CCS website to see how I did in the race and my place overall in the 2 classes I raced in this year. I'll post up when I get the information. Have a great day

Mmelvis - Good for you! That sounds like a fun time. The video is cool too...

You'll have to give us some more details on the bike....

I can't wait to see how you do next year!

Jprovo and Johnnylunchbox: The bike is very basic and the mods are as follows. Pro-Series Intake ,Pro-Series Cams,Screaming Eagle Ignition module. The exhaust is back to the Vance and Hines, my Jardine header pipe started to crack at the mounting point again. Tires are Pirelli MT-75, Handle bars are from ebay some clip ons ( Telefix adjustable 37mm $55). Fork brake from a Kaw GPZ550 cut down to fit the blast forks from ebay ($15). Suspension is stock, went back to the stock wind screen. I was getting some wobble at higher speeds with my JC Whitney fairing. Bolt on foot pegs ($4 from ebay) moved back 4 inches on the stock mounts, the stock mounts have already save my bike once when I went doen in a practice session. That covers all the mods the rest is stock. The Blast in stock form does great on tight technical tracks ( lots of turns). The Blast seems to get left in the dust on tracks with many long straights. If I can ever get to the riding level of Matty I will be a happy camper.

Cool, thanks for the details... Tell me more about the clip ons, do you have any pics of the setup?

You might want to try out the Buell lightning race fairing, it's about $60, and available from Buell. It's even on their website! It bolts to the stock flyscreen location, all that's required is to remove the headlight bucket and you're good to go!

There's a good chance you wont even have to remove the headlight bucket. Really,it 'bolts right on' without any modifications whatsoever!

Thats a cool video. You're obviously keeping up with some of those guys going through the turns, but once the straightway hits, they're gone(no surprise there)! Listening to the shifting and engine revs is real interesting, gives a little bit of an idea of the speeds you're running at.
