my 09 12x left me stranded on the ride home from work yesterday : (. sitting at a stop sign clutch lever pulled in, in first. start hearing something strange, then bike lurches forward and stalls. still holding clutch lever in, hit the started button and bike is lurching forward with starter. shift to neutral, start bike, shift to first, violent lurch forward stalling again. push into parking lot, get tools out and pull access cover. Full of white milky foam... NOT good,I just changed the oils and filter a month ago and it hasn't been ridden in the rain. re adjust the clutch so the lever pulls... see the cable is not broken, see things moving. put cover back on and repeat. damn same thing... Any ideas on what my problem is? i have not had the time to take the side off and dig any further.

There is a bearing between the inside and outside clutch baskets. Sounds like that bearing is seized up.
My bearing went bad due to the chocolate milk oil effect but I heard it rumble when I pulled in the clutch at a stop.
Since mine was under warranty, the shop fixed it for me. Said all that was wrong was the bearing and that the shaft looked fine.
They didn't have to go into the tranny to get to it, just the primary.
I had been riding in the rain a lot previously. Until that point, I thought nothing of riding in the rain.
Since then I installed a ziptie on the top of the clutch cable's boot to keep the water out.

I can't explain how your water got in if you haven't been riding in the rain.

Did you already check to make sure your primary case "lip" has not broken off as some have?

Moisture comes from within if you ride short hops. 30 minute rule. Anything less than 30 minutes and you don't put the charge back in the battery, and you don't burn the condensation out of the oils.

Fordrox, when you say you changed the oil, you changed both the swing arm and the primary cavities, correct? It does seem very odd that you got the chocolate milk effect after 500 miles.
I had this same thing happen to me. Only I blame the previous owner - and myself for not checking the primary personally. He said he just changed the oil to. It's not a big deal to replace the bearing, however I made the mistake of taking it to a HD dealer with no experience with Buells. That hack mechanic almost single handedly destroyed my bike by stripping out the swing arm oil drain plug and by not tightening up the crankshaft nut before putting it all together. And they took no responsibility. Still makes my blood boil. Sorry for venting, but your situation brought it all back!

Yup, sorry to hear that. That needle bearing started making noise on my first '06 Uly at about 35K miles. Was able to replace it myself (with help from neighbor's hydraulic press). At least your problem is solved!

Understanding a problem is only portion of solving the problem.

For instance:
For the past 20,000 miles, my Honda Fit has been ticking like a faint high pressure exhaust leak. I couldn't find it so I decided to wait til it gets worse.
A couple weeks ago, it TOOTs when I start it up.
Still couldn't find the exhaust leak.
It wasn't an exhaust leak.
#%&^$ spark plug popped out!

Sound familiar?
Now I have to timesert my car.

Sounds very familiar. Vaguely reminds me of the rear cylinder on an '06 Uly somewhere...

At least Timeserts are a proven commodity. Good luck.
