wasn't there a case not too long ago in which a student used his car to attempt to drive over students on campus? ___ Why have we become a society in which it takes huge numbers of deaths in a horrible even to reach national attention? Because EVERY SINGLE day people die from preventable causes and it never reaches national headlines. Poor medical system, poor diets, no rail road crossings or lights, unsafe roads, drug abuse. etc etc. If the media spent 1/2 as much time talking about child obesity rates and the negative effects it has on lifespan. Or more focus on the poor medical system in which thousands die every year from prescribed meds interactions... |

"...so i got nothing to lose..." Yeah, they tell you stuff like that all the time. You've heard it, "if you are not a criminal, you have nothing to fear from ( fill in blank.... wiretap...no knock/no paperwork door kicking....confiscation of private property....etc. ). It's not true. I know little about Sydney, ( I'd like to visit there, London too ) I just read that your crime rate has gone up in direct proportion to laws restricting the tools of self defense. Am I wrong? Has your violent crime rate dropped? ( I know it's lower than Rochester NY, many places are ) The only statements I made about Australia that could be wrong, I think, are the ones predicting dire consequences to your homes culture, if you follow England & the European "Progressive" model of diminishing self reliance. let me know, what I got wrong. "Quigley Down Under" is not the best reflection of your past. The rest is observation. Gun control here was begun ( by Klan loving Democrats in the South ) with the aim of keeping the former slaves from having a means to defend themselves against terrorism & murder. The notion that the 2nd amendment is a collective, rather than an individual right, began in the 1960's with the Soviet sponsored Communist movement. The Aussies are a bright light in a dark world. We're all proud to have been your allies in WW2, and some of us have noticed, that despite differences, you guys don't follow the French aristocracy in your lack of fellowship with us. Thanks. Beware. |

Aesquire: I had a 3 year assignment in Rochester NY from 86-89. I didn't find the crime rate very high (compared with Atlanta) and in fact the eastern suburbs (I lived in Fairport) were very quiet, low crime areas back then. NY required a concealed weapons permit then to even own a pistol. I couldn't bring my personal guns up from Georgia until I got the permit. Fortunately it was only a matter of a few weeks to get a judge to sign off on the permit. Where did you ever get the idea that gun control was started in the South? Especially by Klansmen. There are virtually no state laws that I am aware of in the South controlling simple ownership of a firearm. Concealed carry permits are available in every state except SC (I think) and my Georgia concealed carry permit is recognized in all southern states except SC. Its been a long time since the invisible empire has been voting democrat. Look at the quote I posted above from Madison and see if the concept of collective rather than individual gun rights did began in the 1960's. James Madison was President from 1809-1837. The Federalist Papers were written in 1787-88. |

I'm so glad you settled that. Here I was thinking that there was more than one interpretation of many parts of the constitution, including the 2nd Amendment. Well, I guess theres no need for further discussion on that point. Any more constitutional issues you want to close out debate on before you have to run off to work judge? Did I strike a chord? What a surprising statistic. Not to question your accuracy, but because that statistic is so counter-intuitive to me do you suppose you could provide a reference to one of those surveys? I got that statistic from a book John Lott wrote. He writes alot for newspapers like NY and LA times. You'll have to check his sources to see if its factual. |

Where did you ever get the idea that gun control was started in the South? Especially by Klansmen. Ive read that too although I cant remember where. From what I remember it was started to keep blacks from being armed. |

Aesquire: australia's violent crime rate has been on par with the rest of the civilised world no monumental increases in direct relation to laws against firearms. |

Austrilia also has very very strict immigration laws. In America we have about 20 million outlaw illegal aliens to deal with. Plus our other multi-millions of drug users. |

oh no, that violate the illegal alien's civil rights, that would be wrong Same thing with the drug dealers. It makes most honest, law-abiding Americans sick. |

But.... without illegal workers being exploited by greedy pigs, paid starvation wages and used to keep wages of honest workers down, ( especially legal immigrants from Mexico on south ) how would our politicians get so much bribe money from Tyson Foods, Swift, ADM etc.??????? Drugs? I love the bit from the movie "Traffic" "...Ok, right now, all over this great nation of ours, 'hundred thousand white people from the suburbs are cruisin' around downtown asking every black person they see "You got any drugs? You know where I can score some drugs?" *Think* about the effect that that has on the psyche of a black person, on their possibilities. I... God I guarantee you bring a hundred thousand black people into your neighborhood, into f$%&in' Indian Hills, and they're asking every white person they see "You got any drugs? You know where I can score some drugs?", within a *day* everyone would be selling. Your friends. Their kids. Here's why: it's an unbeatable market force man. It's a three-hundred percent markup value. You can go out on the street and make five-hundred dollars in two hours, come back and do whatever you want to do with the rest of your day and, I'm sorry, you're telling me that... you're telling me that white people would still be going to law school?" I'll check on the crime stats.....when I get back from riding! |

true Dat Aesquire! I think the pot should be legalized. It is no more destructive than alcohol or tobacco and legalization would bring it into the open, the criminal element would scatter like roaches when you turn on the lights. I can't say the same about meth, coke, LSD, etc though. way too nasty. |

Can't say that I've ever seen a violent pothead. If a 'head ever tried to hold you up, all you'd have to do is offer a bag of Doritos and some cookies and you'd be off scot-free. |

Today was the annual Penn State University Nittany Lions Blue/White game. Basically a spring football scrimage, but being Penn State and all, they (the fans) "do it up" every year. This year the fans were wearing this t-shirt
This t-shirt is being sold by a local business to raise funds for a PSU alumni that was killed in the rampage. t-shirt link To remember this tragedy. There was also a student section, numbering 800 students, that held up orange and maroon cards to form the VT logo. Also the band wore orange and maroon instead the normal blue and white. It's good to see some good come out of this bad situation. |
