oldog - you are hilarious! that is now my desktop wallpaper!!!

left and oldman - i'll still check in. matter of fact - i'll be at a racetrack in shanghai later this month on a yamaha tzm 150cc racebike ;) here's a link to pics of that bike - just a little engine version of a yamaha tz
http://www.bikepics.com/yamaha/tzm150/07/pics.asp

i'll be doing luxury automotive marketing. primarily through customer events, driving experiences, and brand launches. will be working the mercedes amg (the tuning, racing engine branch of mercedes) brand launch in beijing at the end of the month.

life's a big adventure, and i'm super excited, a little scared, and all around happy about life.

Whatcha' doin' in China? Not the safest place in the world...

One of my wife's co-workers had a son that went over there to teach English. Turned out to be a total disaster... longer hours than what he was initially told, rat-hole accommodations, lower pay then he was originally told. Apparently things started getting kinda' scary, and he hightailed it on a plane back to the States without warning. After a bit of research, found out that the Chinese govt. has been luring college grads from all over the world to teach, then working them to the bone and practically keeping them hostage. Several cases of them having to sneak out under the cover of darkness to get back home. One guy even wound up dead... the govt. claimed it was a car accident, but the doctor that did the autopsy back in his home said that wasn't possible, that it was a very specific blow to the head. Creepy stuff! Supposedly USA Today did a story on it.

Sooo, if you're going over to teach, ya' might wanna' reconsider!

rich and never - thanks! appreciated.

swords - i'm not headed over to teach english, but thank you for the concern. see above for what i'm doing. i did think about it, as a backup....but more mandarin and english for one of the international schools for expat kids in shanghai where a friend's brother is the headmaster. so, a totally different situation than what you're talking about.

3 days and counting,
D

Dora -- break a leg, ma'am! You'll do aces over there -- being a lil scared is a good thing, I'm thinkin -- opens up the mental pores so you can absorb all the new experiences a bit

please do let us know how you fare, and enjoy yourself!

never - flight was great, smooth and easy - direct flight from chicago to shanghai. was met by a bmw motorcycle friend who is the avionics crew chief for AA and escorted on the plane with some flowers and a big bag full of snacks (no upgrade though, he did try!). 15 hours later, i was in shanghai. didnt go to bed the night before, stayed out til about 2am in chicago having my "last" black angus and cheddar cheesburger and then the rest of the night packing up.

oldog and rt - thanks! doin' good here so far. i'm headed to beijing today for the rest of the week to attend some client meetings and then to stay the weekend with a grad school classmate of mine - should be super fun!

josh - dooooooooooo you have the bike yet? did the chaos finally clear up? please tell me you're getting to race it!!!
