Go figure too loud too quiet; where does it end?

What a load of crap. So they tested a hybrid to see if people could hear it - did they test a regular too? They're getting pretty quiet these days.

Anyways, I've found that most of the noise a car makes comes from tire noise and not the engine.

"We want to get ahead of this and not have to wait until five blind people end up seriously hurt or dead."

That's so stupid. What normal person would not be found culpable or at least a contributing factor in a vehicle/pedestrian accident if they walked out in front of someone and got ran over and when asked about it replied, "Well I didn't look, but I didn't hear anything so I figured it would be smart to just walk out into the street"?

What the heck are a bunch of blind people doing wandering around in the street anyway?! That's just crazy! They want accommodation? How about cross walk pedestrian systems that emit a signal when it is safe to cross?

I cross Sam Houston Avenue to get to the university campus every day and use the cross walk. I arrive at the intersection, push the button, and the little sign tells me when I can cross safely. If I do it any other way and get hit, well that's called jaywalking and it's my own fault for ignoring or failing to utilize the traffic device. The sign could just as easily tell me audibly as visually that it is my turn to enter the intersection on foot.

Otherwise, motorists have a duty to look out for pedestrians, regardless of how loud their vehicle is. What does that have to do with anything? This article is just stupid enough to make me want to get my old critical thinking management textbook out and identify just how many logical fallacies I could call their argument.

I was riding to the Dealership a few weeks ago with open headers because my muffler was being warrantied, anyway, some clown pulls out in front of me and my buddy, so I give him the 'ol rev up with my open exhaust and that doods neck about snapped off when he turned around to see what was going on behind him. He was wearing a phone around his ear and his windows were up but he heard something ferrocious.

Anyone listened to an '07 diesel from any of the big 3, compared to older an model diesel. You'd damn near swear you were listening to a gas motor. I listened to the new '08 6.4L Powerstroke diesel from Ford over the weekend and that thing was quieter than my V-10. Wow!

What normal person would not be found culpable or at least a contributing factor in a vehicle/pedestrian accident ...

A good friend of mine spent 6 months in jail for involuntary manslaughter when he backed into a parking space and hit a woman running through a parking lot with headphones on. She just appeared in his space and whoop. Hit her head on the curb and died. She happened to be the wife of a big business man in town. He was a karate instructor. Guess who lost.

I like my loud pipe, but I hate everyone elses. I should be the only person allowed to have one, really.

I don't depend on my loud pipe to help keep me safe. If anything, it almost got me into a fight once.

My Father has a Prius. He delights in sneaking up on me while I'm working on/cleaning the Cyclone in the driveway. In Europe I've read there is a movement to add musical chimes to electo-cars for safety.

I'll take "Battle Without Honor.." from "Kill Bill" or maybe "Rock Anthem for Saving the World" from the Halo game soundtrack.

That's ridiculous...

That's what he thought. They were nice enough to let him serve nights in jail and let him out to work the days so he could keep his business. They also took his license away from him so he peddled everywhere he went. I tried to convince him to get a little Vespa, but he wouldn't do it.

A wise old law school prof of mine once said, there is no justice, there's only the law.

here is a thought about noisy machines...

a train, which is probably one of the loudest moving objects around, that can be heard from a mile away as they approach and pass, still feel the need to have an ear splitting air horn that they blow as the approach each crossing.

i guess i should sound my drummer as i approach each intersection...safety first

what about deaf people? or deaf and blind?

What are we coming to? A nation of laws -- and outlaws!
