>>>Personally I think Buell has potential to do much better than that, but they're still doing a bit better than Harley over the past few years, so the idea that they are in trouble seems a bit silly (unless you believe Harley itself is in trouble).

Buell is doing well but I can personally lay to rest the rumor about Buell buying Harley-Davidson out.

I agree. Frankly, in all honesty, folks have stopped listening anyway. You can only cry "foul" and be wrong so many times before your credibility is gone.

I dont believe folks have stopped listening. Perhaps they have become a bit desensitized however.

As far as crying "foul" which im assuming to mean some sort of predictions regarding doom & gloom over the brand, nope none from this side of the camp. I predict good things ahead for Buell so long as they continue to listen to their customers. The inevitable release of the H2O model is going to really turn up the heat.

Go back & look thru the archives, I have been correct far more often than incorrect on predictions.

Blake, This is your site and you can do as you wish. Having Dyna leave wont do anything but people off.

It would be an awefull boring world if we all had to think along the same lines and manners.

On the above post, I should have said, (Make people Mad)

For that I am truly sorry and thank you for protecting me from horrors of fowl language.

...sales of Buell motorcycles fell to $18.3 million from $20.4 million

I don't know if I would call a 1.1% drop in sales a death-knoll. I assume a company with $18 million in sales is selling a product that people are buying.

The bottom line is sell a product for more than it costs to make and you have a successful, profitable company. Will Buell ever reach Honda numbers? It doesn't matter. Confederate made 52 motorcycles last year, they're still around.

As long as BMC is profitable, they ain't going anywhere, so keep buying those frame pucks and chrome heel guards : )

Fine.

I still stand by the policy and see no need to adopt national TV as a reference standard.

Let me make this clear, I am not asking for anyone to agree. I am simply stating that this was the decision and we try to abide by it.

If anyone finds it truly a problem there are options. As you point out, you can simply switch on the tube. Another is SacBorg, the folks there are no dummys. I now many of them and they are a sharp group of folks. One of the reasons that I admire them is they they have set their standards as well and abide by them.

Simple, eh?

I've been doing the "Buell-Net" thing for 10 years now and find Badweb generally a pleasant place to be.

Just my thoughts.

Court

P.S. - Greg and I agree again. I see very bright things ahead for Buell. Water cooled or no water cooled, I suggest you better think big if you intend to mentally intersect where those silly kids in East Troy are headed. I said it in 1994 and I'll say it again..."we are the kids who hot rodded '57 Chevy's, now armed with the best education and computers that money can buy."

Bruce, I dont see you adding anything besides name calling in the political type threads. Do you even have a bike?

Patrick, nobody claimed it was a death knoll, just asked a question if the slight drop had anything to do with the decision.

Court, I have been visiting the Badweb since 97.
I love it! and I don't even have a Buell anymore.

I hate Censorship!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I believe that if someone doesn't like the content or format they simply do not tune in. (How many children are here)

Pretty soon, we will get tickets for going out on the front porch with no slipper's on to get the morning paper because we might get a sliver, or because our ugly feet offended some one.

freedom of Expression.............Freedom
Censorship of expression...........Dictatorship

I do the SacBorg thing on a regular basis and also love it. I just think that were all adults and should be able to express ourselves as we do in actual life. OH, and without fear of getting kicked out.

Hi Bob!. While my 6 & 10 year olds do not participate in the forum, we are always fighting for the seat in front of the monitor and they have a way of speed reading "naughty" words. I appreciate the content of BadWeb, and if I need more speed I'll occasionally dial up other sights after bedtime.

As far as getting kicked out, here in Kansas I have to restrain myself in most areas of life, at the threat of getting "kicked out". That includes the activities in my own home, and almost all public places. It's rumoured to be a little more liberal on the left coast however.

As for the word filter, who cares? You can get your point across one way or another.

I can pretty much decipher what the little red dots are replacing in most posts that exhibit them, including my own. Weird thing is that sometimes I get a message disallowing curse words, usually they get replaced by red dots. Anyone else notice this? Apparently BadWeB has become self-aware. Scary thought.

The surprising truth is that we went a LONG time with the profanity filter turned off, I mean years. If you don't believe me simply do a search for your favorite profanity count the results. It was only within the last year that the filter was re-instituted. It was re-instituted because the board was becoming a place that I was no longer enthused about visiting. I fully agree that there are times and places for strong language. As a matter of fact, we used to have a topic in the quick board for that type of expression. Here it is...

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/4062/16163.html

Try writing a letter to the editor of Cycle World or Road Racing World and filling it with profanity. Think it will get published?

I'm sorry that some of you cannot see that setting standards is different from censorship. The bottom line is that the content of this web site reflects upon me and all those who add their name and efforts to keeping it up and running. Would you want to lend your name to something which offends you and those you respect?

forgot to dump boiling water on the ground hornet nest last night. The little really nailed me last week when I was aeriating the lawn. Had me running and dancing like a mad man. I ended up in the neighbors' front yard still contending with a few persistent venom wielding insects. After swatting down the last hornet I looked up to see Art, my neighbor, a worried possibly fearful expression on his face, observing my antics through the relative safety of his kitchen window. I mouthed "bees", and a look of relief apeared. But he stayed inside and ever since seems hesitant to make eye contact.

I got tagged seven times by the little with little consequence as long as I kept busy. Anytime I sat idle the pain seemed to ramp way up. I actually had trouble sleeping, and anyone who's ever slept with FMJ as I have (there I've said it Jim, no retreating now  ) knows that I am a VERY heavy and sound sleeper. I'm a wuss.

See, the little red dots carry just as much force as the actual word and allow the reader to pick his favorite expletive. It really is a win-win scenario.

Here's a question that hasnt been asked yet. If HD dealers are independantly owned & HD cant force them to carry Buells, how can HD force a dealer who presently carries them to stop?

The very reason my kids don't watch tv unless its a program or series I have seen before and aproved it.

Censorship of expression...........Dictatorship

Your expression is not being sensored here. The WAY you express yourself is.

My son is 12 years old, speaks only a few words english but the little bugger is quicker than me to understand what "fhukc" or "shite" means.

But please don't quote any of my posts ... I know darn well I'm guilty of using 'foul language' now and then ... I'm working on it though ...

In addition to the Rules and "Netiquette", Court once wrote ... my PERSONAL criteria is "if I wouldn't leave it on my coffee table at home or lobby table at work, no thank you".

I'm trying to abide by that, and to quote Court once more, Yes, I've streched it. Like I said, I'm working on it.

>>>how can HD force a dealer who presently carries them to stop?

HD dealers, ergo Buell dealers, enjoy privity to a dealer contract.

Any contract requires "consideration"...each party does/provides soemthing (or foregoes doing something); in return the counterparty does/does not do something.

HD provides motorcycles and access to it's products, ranging from motorcycles to H.O.G. events. In exhcange the dealer must do certain things and meet certian metrics. Many of you remember as the store moderizations swept the county and the fight some of the old timers put up trying to resist spending the $$. It wasn't unitl they risk having their franchise (rights) sold that they fell into line.

The contract is bilateral in that each party agrees to be part of and particiapate therein. HD, ergo Buell, can therefore revoke the right of certain dealers to sell the product. Conversly, the dealer can serve proper notice and terminate the Buell contract.

You are going to come back and take some shots at that and point out a myriad of exceptions. I concede, in advance, all of them. Politics and timing, as in life, play a role in all these things. I'm willing to try to shed a bit of light on your questions, I'll not debate the merits of the dealer contract here.

The "metrics" I mentioned earlier are many and the bar is high. If you are a "PERFECT" dealer you are eligible for the Harley-Davidson Bar & Shield Award. I know quite a bit about this as no dealer in the World has received more awards than TOPEKA HARLEY-DAVIDSON / BUELL. They were a great Buell dealer when I first got interested in 1988.

I hope that helps at least some.
