Bush had a speech in Janesville earlier today & is now headed to Racine for another one. The town was an absolute zoo, cops everywhere, all the streets blocked off, people lining the roads, etc. Quite a few folks with signs, only saw a few negative ones such as "LIAR" that was spelled out on a huge board. Most were pretty upbeat signs tho with the best being one I saw that read "Hot Chicks love Bush": D His motorcade stopped at Tenutas which is a local italian store & is considered a landmark here. Supposedly he bought a sandwich & we heard he also had a beer...that part may not be true.

His huge tour bus came right by house doing about 45 mph along with dozens of state patrol cars, local cops, even the coast guard helicopter was patroling the sky at a very low altitude.

Road grader used to block off 1 of the roads.

Beginnings of the crowd forming

More crowd

They even brought out the firetrucks to block intersections.

My grandson not sure just why were all out on the sidewalk for 2 hrs waiting.

It was a long 2 hrs so I amused myself by taking pics of cop cars, very creepy having no traffic on the main drag thru town for almost 2 hrs.

First time I saw the Helicopter

Then it passed directly overhead

Here comes the motorcade

And here's the presidents tour buses

This was the first one

And the 2nd one was the bus Bush rode in. You could actually see him standing up near the front door waving at the crowds.

The end of the motorcade..well not really, there had to be 5-6 big busses followed by another dozen police vehicles, bomb squad, etc.

I thought it was pretty cool that he stopped at Tenutas, we have had candidates come thru town & stop there in the past but Bush is the first president since Franklin Roosevelt to actually come thru town while in office.

As you all know here in Iowa for some reason we are supposed to be a curcial vote. It has been a cops worst night mare with everyone coming and going. We had both the president and Sen. Kerry in town at the same time in one day. All cops except for 8 were gaurding them. The other 8 including myself on the street handeling the calls. City of 110,000+ people, well the bad guys were actually smart that day. Three different bank robberies in a matter of 70 minutes. Needles to say I just happened to be in the right place at the right time for the first one. Great pursuit and I have pics from my in squad camera posted all over my house. Its a great shot of me running at the suspect with gun pointed right in his face.
Not too shabby for 8 officers on the street only one bad guy got away. Anyway I am rambeling I just cant wait for this to be over

Chad, I was talking with the cop who was working the corner in front of my house & I asked him if now would be a good time to rob anything on the west side of town? he laughed & told me "yes", 3/4's of the force was doing presidential work detail. Had 1 person do a good burnout in his truck about 1/2 block away & a few folks in the crowd asked the cop if he was "going to go get him", the cop said nope, not his duty & he didnt care what anyone did so long as it didnt interfere with the motorcade today.

Let me get this straight, you feel fine stating that the President of the United States, the leader of your country and the free world "suck", because increasing world demand for oil? What do you want him to do mandate that we all start pissing gasoline? I'll tell you what "sucks", all the people riding around for no good reason in their gas guzzling pickup trucks and SUVs who could just as well be driving a much more fuel efficient vehicle.

What ever happened to patriotism in this country?

2.05 a gallon is cheap! Try buying it buy the liter! Some of you people are spoiled and childish... Not trying to be personal at all, just saying look at what the rest of the world pays for gasoline!

I sure wish I could catch the President. I'm proud of the fact that we've got such a great leader in office who doesn't back down. He'll do what's right for America no matter what YOU think. (You being the public). The public doesn't have all the facts. I'm voting for W because he'll stick with this fight.

>>>>I just dont understand what the hell the other buses were for??

Easy....most for media, some locals, and one or two for the same purposes as the black vehicles.

If you have a "need to know" drop me an address. You may or may not know that yours truly spent two years with the Reagan/Bush White House Advance Team. One of my duties was seating assignments for Air Force One, Marine One and the motorcades. I still have pads of blank templates or I could maul you a copy of a "playbook" (they were quite crud in the days before the fax, e-mail and word processors) from a trip.

The comment regarding OUR PRESIDENT "sucks" is juvenile and dissapointing. I find myself able to get quite excited about a Presidential visit (remember I am doing some UN Security now and last week has been kinda hectic) regardless of the party affiliation.

The essence of the matter was on the t-shirts we used to wear....
"we don't elect'em, just protect'em"

Update on the visit yesterday, the reporter at the scene had claimed Bush bought a sandwich at Tenutas but now they say he didnt buy anything, just a meet & greet with the store employees & about 10 customers that for some reason the secret service couldnt manage to get out of the store. He signed autographs & shook the hands of the approximately 40 folks inside.

Normally I think autographs are kinda stupid...not knocking those who enjoy collecting them..but it would be cool to have a few presidential ones. I have Reagans autograph on official white house stationary, the only other signiature I have of anyones is Erik's on a hat & a helmet so what does that tell you?

As I'm driving home this afternoon in my Expedition, I'll know that according to Blake, I suck.

It does get better mileage than my Dodge!

I think a Hummer H2 gets better mileage than a Dodge does: D

The 318's & 360's while being good engines have never been very fuel efficient.

Dave,
Only if you complain about the price of gasoline and blame it on our President. Your Expedition however does indeed suck... lots of gasoline.

According to me, I suck too. We have an old Exploder and it too sucks. Bugs me every time I drive it. Sixteen mpg is just not acceptable for an every day driver anymore. I'm just too cheap to go car shopping.

I think it might have something to do with the lift kit and 35" tires?
It gets 11 on the hwy.
My Expedition get about 13-14 at 75 MPH.

Well, now nice for you! Now, have you figured out how the President directly sets gas prices here in the US? If so, please enlighten us!

I second that !! This started as a positive thread about a visit in this area by the President, the others comments belong on another thread, geezzz !!
