I'd pay for it but isn't $15,000 (opening Bid min you) like $100,000.00 Canadian!!!! I'd have to sell a Kidney (I think thats legal here in Canada) to get that one. |

I think Hal's has a RR1200, not a 1000. They put it up on Ebay every once in awhile fishing for bids. Jeff |

Hal's has number 8 out of nine of those built that year (1989?). Depending on the day of the week you might be able to get their's for that price with a trade-in. It will need fresh rubber though. |

This one doesn't have an engine, though. But, yeah, I'm with Newfie on that. A bike that just sits in a garage or under a glass case is a serious waste, IMHO. Get out there and start grinning. |

I wonder how close to impossible it would be to find a new XR1000 engine? |

That leaves 6% possibility, go for it. |

94%....fortunately, there is still a 6% chance of finding one! While it may lack in originality, reproducing an XR1000 motor is 100%($$$) possible...especially, given the experience and talents of young engineers with complex and capable machines close at hand... Let's all sing along now..."Well, I rode into Denver two hours too soon and decided to stop at a local saloon. I found a table and there I did sit and along came a lady with..." |

So does a XR engine use iron head or EVO XL engine mounts? Or I guess it could be unique for the RR as well. |
Sportsman

XR's were special iron heads with both intakes in the rear so it would seem the mounts would be alot different. Heck it would be blasphemous to butcher up history like that to put in a new style motor. (even though the bike would be cool as heck to actually ride everyday and not care) Court? |

Whoa HO! We have a lurker with the good stuff! OK, so what's it worth? You probably have an XR or something it goes with but either way I'm glad you posted the pic's. |

That is a GORGEOUS piece of work. I particularly like the one that shows the serial number on the cases. When I grenaded my XR-1000, about 7 years ago, I was able trade favors (that involved me having dinner with Christian Akoye and Dion Sanders) for a new set of cases with MY serial number on them. It's not the "perfect" engine for many applications, but, like the 1965 Pontica GTO WFO 389ci w/3 2-barrels, has one of the most unique and inspiring sounds ever to come out from between your happy legs. My personal favorite memory was about 6am on a Sunday morning when Bruce Zimmerman (see also), both of us mounted on our heavily breathed on XR's, came upon a pack of H.O.G. folks cruising down I-70 through downtown Topkea....the elevated section with concrete walls on each side. We both nailed it about 1/4 behnd them, did a mirror-tapping-mirror pass, leaned together into the curve and provided them with the sweetest sound, resonanting between those walls, known to motorcycling. The RR1000 cries for the XR motor. Court |

The sound is more like a SB Chevy than a Harley. With the carbs on one side and mufflers on the other, and the intake sound almost as loud as the exhaust, it is an attention getter! The best part is taking it to a Harley event, watching the crowd gather, and listening to the arguments on what it is, 98% clueless, and the one guy that's right is taking the most (s)heat.
