Well, it looks like another five to seven months before I get to ride. Thanks to all those sonofab1tch Iraqis who want to cause trouble, I get to go back into Iraq for a while. I was five days away from flying out of Kuwait, 120 hours away from being on a jet bound for home, when we got the word to unpack our stuff and get ready to roll back over the berm.

So, after a year here, I get to spend more time. Oh, but there's that policy in place for soldiers that have been deployed longer than a year - they get paid $100 a day. So I have that to look forward to. Oh, wait, they postponed that policy due to our current state of emergency. Joy.

Ok, ok, I'm done. I knew what I was getting into when I joined the Army eleven years ago, it just irks me sometimes. I'll get over it, I'll be home by Thanksgiving, just in time to ride in the winter. Woohoo!

It looks like this board is going to be one of my only links to the world of two wheels for the next little while... So keep me informed!

Man - as much as I admire the job you guys are doing - still I know how you feel - that kind of thing can really tear at you - anticipation is always the killer - just keep your head low and sane and you'll be ok and be riding soon enough!

Sean, hated to hear you have to stay longer. Was hoping to meet you at the dealership when you picked up the bikes. Stay safe and God Bless you all.

I want to say more but don't know how to say what I'm feeling.
Come home safe as soon as you can (as if you wouldn't).

Thanks, everyone, I appreciate it. I just felt like venting. I was SOOO looking forward to riding. But that's ok, I've still got plenty of years of riding ahead of me...

Craig - I'm not sure that I am going to keep ahold of that deal. It was a killer deal, but I know that Robert can't be holding onto those bikes forever. There will be other killer deals later in life, I'm sure...

Ken - Where in Iraq are you going? We're actually headed to a city formerly held by Marines. Maybe I'll see you.

Court,

you were Marine Corps? no wonder you are so fucking cool.

Sean,

when i was customs, we sent an LAR unit out, the army calls them Strikers, anyway, they were ON THE PLANE ON THE RUNWAY when they got orders to go back north, talk about bullshit. we had our departure date moved back about a million times too, but we got used to it. by the time we finally left, no one thought it was for sure till we landed at Cherry Point NC. worst was when we searched the units that took OUR plane rides home. as far as where ill be, i dunno. I mean, i kinda know, but its not for sure yet. in any case, youve been there for a long time sir, and i really feal bad for you. stay safe sir, and youll be home before you know it. thank you for your service sir.

Ken

JT - If you were outprocessing around April/May of 2003, yeah, I was coming in then. And I certainly don't envy guys that were here for the actual ground combat. That must have been wicked stressful. This SASO stuff, the worst thing is that the enemy is invisible. But we don't have to worry much about chemical threat, an air threat, or anything heavier than a truck laden with explosives - no tanks, APC's or the like.

Court - I don't know my address yet, (we may not get mail for a month or so after we go back over the berm.) Once I find it out I'll let you know. That was the biggest issue that we had before, was not being able to keep up with the real world. I honestly hope that I won't have time to read magazines, (the busier I am the faster the time goes) but if I do need some I'll ask. Thanks in advance.

Ken - Dude, again, stop with the sirs... And once you get over here, let me know where you are, and I'll see if I can look you up. And I appreciate that you can feel my pain, man. I'm just glad that we weren't closer to leaving like you were. The unit in front of us just barely got out of country. We didn't. Those bastards...

Thanks again everyone. I had to give up the great deal I had on two 2003 bikes, and now I am going to have to start all over again looking for a bike. And this time I am going to wait until I am actually home to try making a deal. Anyone know when the 2005's come out?

Sean, all the best for your postponement, our blokes get the same old crap too.
In the Brit forces they have a saying
"If you can't take a joke...(all together now) You shouldn't have joined"
often said with huge dollops of irony.
Chin up, cheers.
