I don't believe this.....I spent almost every night last summer riding my M2 until dark, then afterward out in the garage cleaning, waxing and polishing my baby. All I've done since December is read and post to this website for hours. Am I going nuts? Cabin fever? Anybody else (with snow) have this problem? |

The snow melts pretty quick here in Denver. Within 1-3 days after a storm the roads are passible on a bike. We get 60+ inches of snow a year here, and I haven't ever gone more than 7 days without riding. That's my abbreviated version of cabin fever! Today is 40 degrees as I type with a predicted high in the 60's with Snow tomorrow! I feel your pain brother! |

Cabin Fever, Shoooooooooooot I can't wait for the snow and ice to go. Last weekend I actually went out to the garage, started the convertible, put the top down and turned up the tunes for a few minutes. |

just got more snow today and i just had her out saturday, it was a balmy 42f outside! i'm excited to finish breaking in my new 1250 kit, i have about 700 miles on it since november. did you decide what cams you're going with yet? i might do that before spring hits i think i'm going with the se bolt-on jobbies, but i could still be persuaded otherwise. |

Here in New England we get a pant-load of snow well into the spring. Yes, the roads are clear after a few days, but you wouldn't catch me out riding. Its not the cold, its the salt. We get road salt up the ass out here. If the pavement looks white a week after a snow storm, don't worry, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you. Its the salt, the f#$%&ing salt! |

Don't ride on the salt, as my high-side (after hitting a curb) taught me 3 years ago TODAY. Prof |

Here in lovely Brittany we rarely get snow, so I spend time riding when possible, trouble is if the weathers good enough to clean, it's good enough to ride so the bike only gets cleaned when I'm too ashamed to take it out! |

It's not the snow, it's not the cold....it's just that it WON"T GO AWAY!!!!! I haven't even heard my M2 run since (sob!)November. I didn't used to hate winter as much until I started riding again. And what's worse... I have a hard&fast rule regarding spring riding- I don't do it until after the first hard rain to wash all the *@#$% salt off the roads. Why people can't drive on an inch of snow without laying down 2" of salt is beyond me. Oh wait... I forgot. The Big Three automakers are no doubt paying municipalities for every ton of salt they dump so that the new cars they sell will be destroyed and you'll have to buy new ones.(they wouldn't REALLY do that........ would they?)

....So, in order to fight the plague next year, I've decided there WILL be heat in the ol' Buell Garage. At least I can work on it and polish it in relative comfort. Anybody got any suggestions? I saw where Menard's has wall-mount garage heaters, but only in natural gas. I'd prefer propane, but only if fumes isn't an issue... |

Given how much time and effort goes into anti-corrosion study...no, they wouldn`t. Ahh...at least you can LOOK at your bike. Mine is over 6000 miles away straight-line. On the plus side, it was 65 degrees and sunny here in Hiroshima, and my girlfriend will be in any minute now! Goddamned airlines can`t keep a 75 minute flight on schedule |

propane heaters are pretty cheap, home depot has a few reasonably priced, are you going to heat the garage otherwise when your not in it? i would like a good cheap running system that would keep the garage at like 50 and maybe a propane quick heater for when i'm working in there. this is the first time any of my bikes has ever been in a garage so they're already better off then before, i covered my bikes for years and what a pain in the ass that is waiting for them to cool down before having to go back out to cover them. and then the dreaded 2 o'clock in the morning "shit did i cover the bikes?" |

SALT!!!! Not only does it rust the cars and snomobile trailers, Then after the first good rain it runs off into the trout streams and kills all the Brook Trout! Of course the Brook Trout could be dying off because all the YUPPIES are clearing all the underbrush out of the pretty little streams running through their back yards and digging duck ponds that warm the water so the Brookies won't stay there. And the DNR worries nothing about it cause its people with money. OH MY GOSH!!!ME TOO!!! Sorry.....Thanks for listening Just a couple more months and I'll be OK |

It's OK, Swampy. This happened to me last year too. You'll get over it (or die) Tripp, I'd like to keep the garage around 40 and crank it an hour or so before I go out there. I don't mind natural gas but I'd have to trench about 100 feet from my gas meter and shove a little payola at the the gas co. to get it approved. And if that cam question was directed at me, (a couple days ago) I'm gonna go with the N8's. It still meets the qualifications of a "bolt-in" in my book and has more mojo than the N4. |

yes, the cams! i'll have to read up on the 8's. more mojo you say!?! "bolt-in"!?! that sounds nice! what made you come to this conclusion? the lift, duration, maybe dynos? i'm very interested, i sunk a ton of cash into my bike last year and just bought a house so, i'm pretty sure it'll be a while before i can get my heads done however, i'd like to get the most out of the mods i already have done. now as far as "meets the qualifications in my book" i imagine they may not require headwork anyway? thanks for your input, i've followed a few posts on the subject here in the quick board and the kv and i still can't decide what cams i wanna go with, please post when you do install the n8's thanks, tripp |

Nothing Broke, Just some general Buell maintenance, like the Primary Chain Tensioner, change ALL the fluids and some other minor things to do so I don't have a major break down. Sometimes an ounce of prevention............ |

Hey Tripp, where ya been? The cams..... Andrews lists the N8 P/N 298185 ('91-'99) as having timing of 56/28, duration @ .053 of 264, @ .020 of 302, max lift of 0.500 and TDC lift of .212. This in comparison to the N4, which is in all respects the same as the Lightning cam installed in the X1's and S3's, Timing 52/24, duration 256/296, max lift .490, TDC lift .189. Both operate in the same RPM range except the N8 goes to 6500 instead of 6000. If you're running, or planning on running the race ECM the extra 500 RPM could be useful. More lift, more duration, later timing all translate into a lumpier, yet more "hostile" cam when you're laying into it. Now all this would just be psycho-babble were it not for actually knowing somebody who ran BOTH in his '97 M2 and STRONGLY recommends the N8's over the N4. I've personally ridden the bike with the N8's in it and all I can say is HOLY CRAP! Incidentally, having ridden both his bike and mine, I can testify that his would thoroughly thump my '99 in the quarter.(now...but I'm not finished yet...) I suggest you go to the Andrews website and check it out. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the link here or not. If you can't find it let me know. |

Oh yeah, one other thing, Tripp, The "bolt-in" description comes from Andrews Themselves, referring to the fact that you do not need to do any other modifications (i.e. clearance the case or pistons, change pushrods, lifters, rocker arms, etc.) to run them. I'll let you know when I get them installed, tho it may be a while. I've got a race muff, Forcewinder and HSR42 to buy first.... |

hey Capt what other mods would I need to do to my 99 M2 if I put N8 cams in? I'm not after ultimate performance just enough grunt so I can put my standard back sprocket back on without too much loss of launch power & grin factor.

I think its K&N it was on the bike when I got it, it's nice & smooth so you don't get hooked up on it. I'll have a good look when I have a moment & let you know. I've still got the shoebox in the garage along with the original back pulley/sprocket/thing which I want to put back on for the top end. My lifters rattle a bit after the oil pump drive disaster so I'll probly do the Andrews thing too at the same time, if I can find a supplier here, if not I'll call Bubba with a credit card. |

Tripp, You'll probably have your cams in before me...what say you let ME know how they work out? (then if they don't, I won't have wasted all the money!) LOL But seriously, you will probably get them installed before me. Mr Grumpy (AKA Innes) As Aaron alluded to many times in the KV, To make any cam work, you need 1) air & fuel in and 2) exhaust out. I'd recommend a free-breathing air cleaner, maybe a better carb (HSR42) and a great exhaust system. So far everything I've read points to the Buell Race system. I bought the race header and am in the process of picking up the muff as we speak. Those mods alone ought to let the N8 work up to it's potential. Good Luck! |
