The new issue of "Cycle News" (the weekly newspaper of Motorcycling in America) has a rave review on both the the Lightning and Firebolt 1200's in the new July 30 edition.

And I mean "Rave" reviews. The author really talks it up. If the glossy print mags concour, I'd expect quite a few converts from the UJM ranks to join the Buell ranks.

The latest Motorcyclist has a fluff piece on the 12s...Aaron Frank seems to like 'em. Can't wait till next month's for the full review.

All anybody said negative about the XB9s were they were "underpowered"...
Not from my point of view, but then, I'm pretty used to sub100 hp bikes...
I wonder how many more Buellers came on board because of the XB9s.
I wonder how many more will come on board because of the XB12s.

I think we may see a return of some Buellers after the first few years of the XB12s being in production.

I think the XB9s reached a lot of newbies who were put off by the earlier models' reputations.

Now they will be able to "upgrade" to a 12 and there will be 9s for sale. Hm, sounds like a conventional sportbike sell through.

The XB9R certainly got me to cross over to Buell. Late August, early September I'll be riding one home. I really love the 12R but it's too much money. After riding the 9R last Saturday I have no reluctance to settle for a 984cc bike. It rocks! And the best thing is that now with the release of the 12R, the 9R came down in price! I can finally afford one and join the Bueller ranks.

Thanks man
I know all about them tubers. Two of my best friends that I ride with all the time have 2000 M2 Cyclones. I can keep up to one of them no problem on my soon to be gone sporty but I just don't have enough lean angle to keep up with the other guy. Plus it's a pain wrestling the sporty through corners. That's about to change with the 9R. I really don't care that they'll be able to dust me on the straights at will. In the curves where it really counts I'll be either right on their butts or in front. ironically, it was these two guys that talked me into leaving sportbikes behind and getting the sporty back in 1999. One year later they sold their sporties and bought their Cyclones. I was a bit miffed cause I went from head of the pack to back of the pack in just one day. But now revenge is mine! Muhahahaha! At least by getting the 9 and not the 12 I won't crush their egos too badly

"I really don't care that they'll be able to dust me on the straights at will."
An M2 dust an XB9? Don't think so, not if the M2's have stock motors anyway. In fact, put a race kit on your XB9 and you'll probably find them trying to keep up with you.

Only one of them is bone stock. The other one (the one that I'm always far behind) is stock with Andrew N6 cams I believe and ridden by an exceptionally good rider. I rode it a couple times and it pulls hard. The suspension has been redone, (stiffer fork springs) and now it handles better than anything I've ever ridden except the XBs.

I'm expecting to see this in the review: "Clutch pull is too heavy."

The 12 pulls a bit harder than the 9 and they were complaining about the 9. Just speculation, but we'll see. Clutch dosent pull any harder than my X1.

I am glad to see Buell doing well. I am sick and tired of the continual mauling. They are not perfect, but way good enough for me.

I am now watching Bob Drons of Oakland, CA. They dropped Buell last year, and I bet they regret that now. Oh well. Anyway, I think Buell needs to sell through non HMC motorcycle shops.

Still happy to have my X1.

I think a STOCK M2,will out run a STOCK XB9.Put a race kit on each one,and the M2 will pull away from the XB9,at least here in Missouri anyway.

My kitted XB9 outruns all my buddy's bikes. Race kitted M2(s), X1(s), and S3.

Metalstorm, unless you're a really big guy, give it a couple weeks to get used to the bike and you'll be leaving them behind on the straights and the curves.

Richie,
The drag strip times say otherwise. Significantly lighter bike with roughly the same power and lower gearing... pretty simple math... the XB9 wins every time.

Australian Motorcycle News put up a 4 page spread on the new 12's tested at Road America. Basicaly raved about the bikes on the big track, short track and Battle trax. Only negative related to a fuell surge problem under extreme braking from high speed into a corner, related to low fuell level pick up problems.
But all in all a very postive and complimantry Test report. With 99% rave reports on all aspects of the new bikes. They stressed the reliability of the test bikes in the hands of the ham fisted Jurno's.
Last night sold the GSXR the night befor the XR600
left the garrage for the last time, I have the cash and I have parking space hope to test a 12 in September when over there.

To Glitch's point, the XB9S-L got me on-board with Buell. A neighbor had a tweaked-out X1 that I ALWAYS drooled over, but it's just too big a bike for a 5'6" Texan. I was always in HD shops looking at Harleys and Buells.

Well, along come-a XB9R and I thought, "Now that is sweet. Smaller, much lighter... but only if it was just a little easier to get my feet on the floor... if only it were more of a sport-standard body like the Monster or the Speed Triple." No offense to you "R" riders, but I prefer to sit up a bit more and prefer the sporty naked style and ergonomics.

Well along come-a XB9S and I said "HELLO BUELL!" It's got everything I was looking for in a bike. I test rode one at Central HD in north Austin, and let me tell you it was LOVE at first ride.

So I was saving up cash for my new "S" when along come-a XB9S-L. And I thought, was Eric Buell eaves-dropping on my dreams of a shorter version of the "S?" Indeed he was. I negotiated and bought my black "S" in March for $8999. Little did I know that months later my negotiated price would become the sticker... but that's neither here, nor there. Point is, I couldn't be happier. I've put on the race kit, airbox scratch guard and hand grips, all from the Buell accessory "bin."

And I don't care what you read on message boards elsewhere... I get nothing but compliments on my Buell everywhere I go. Folks who don't know Buell's look at the bike and scratch their heads when they hear the exhaust. Other folks stop, stare for a minute then finally say "what a good looking bike!" I can't tell you how many people ask me what kind of bike I'm riding when I'm stopping somewhere. I've always got a smile when I tell them that it's a Buell, and I always make time to talk to people who ask about the bike. I think the closest thing to a negative comment I've been told is, "Man, that thing's kinda' small." DUH! I'm 5'6", and the less weight and size, the more nimble.

So I've been in love with the Buell look and sound for a while. Riding the XB9S sold me and my XB9S-L is just the best thing I've EVER ridden. I'm 30 now, and I've been on quite a few bikes. The Buell is my 4th street bike to own.

One last thing, and then I'll shut up... I have to say that I don't care which bike is faster than which other bike in the straight-shot race. I used to enjoy showing my tail lights to Mustangs with my '94 Firehawk before I sold it, but I don't even bother that kind of stuff on my bike. I'd rather go on a spirited group ride with a handful of guys, than stoplight race.

Ride for the fun of it. Know and RESPECT your own limitations. Be safe and friendly to all bikers. It's just great to be on 2 wheels and be out there, I say. I don't care if you're on a ZX-12 or a Rebel 250, I'm gonna' treat you the same.

One day I'll have to stop riding. Today is not that day.
