I was wondering about various folks' experiences with the Qwiksilver carbs. I know some S2s came standard with 'em.

If I had my choice, I'd go with a 42mm Mikuni (personal familiarity & comfort with Mikuni as well as ubiquity) - but I just had a 42mm Edelbrock fall into my lap so I'm just asking questions...

I think FMJ has some pretty good experience wuth the Qwiksilver. I hear its pretty decent. Personally I am very partial to the 42 Mikuni.

Saro,my first S-2 came with one from factory(CA smog stuff) and I ran it with good luck for 60,000 miles.Only had 2 glitches.At about 15,000 miles the 2 piece needle separated stranding me about 1 mile from home--luckily my brother was coming to see me and picked me up.Took a little while to find that one.And the biggie--two corners of the slide broke off and went through motor coming across country at about 40,000.Kinda messy.I inquired about new slide from Quiksilver/Edelbrock and found out they had had a recall (Very hush-hush,I guess)and they offered to redo my carb.I ended up with a completely new one as the one I got back had 1 less vacuum port.In hind sight I shoulda hit them up for engine repair--oh well.Worked great for next 20-25,000,until I went with 88" motor combo from Nallin with Mikuni.Easy to change jet settings,good response and mileage.Though I thought the S-2 one was a 40---???

Thats what I want to know - what size Quicksilver were they running - they recommend 38 and it comes out as a double pumper carb type (for even quicker response) for the Buells yet I hear the early Buells came with the 40? GT - JBOTDS! EZ

Don't have my manual with CA additions at work here so I cannot check.My poor memory seems to stick on 40mm though.The new Q/S carbs are now equipped with an accelerator pump for better response.I know Gordon Buhle has one on his S-2 and likes it.{double pumper is a Holley hi-perf carb for cars}

Cool (MY BAD - I misspoke thinking cars instead of motorcycles) - I was looking at this carb for a while - still sits there saying - great response and easier tuning - it wispers in my ear constantly! Still maybe for the Red bike! I've already droped a small fortune into the CV on the Black - almost every hotrod trick in the book and a Dial A Jet - lol - it does well now - instant pulling response, smooth roll ons, and protection against lean conditions getting drastic! Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Hey EZ - post someplace on how you did your DaJ install. I think we're the only 2 Buellers here who run 'em - along with a few Thunderjets.

I ran a 40 Quicksilver on my FXRT which had Branch heads, Andrews EV46 & SuperTrapp 2 into 1. The 38 was mainly for stocker BTs & Sportys. My QS was originally Edmonston's first design in which I had difficulty adjusting for a good idle & low speed response. I exchanged it for the next series which had a better slide resulting in perfect throttle response & excellent power. After Edelbrock bought QS, if I needed parts I could get them from Edelbrock in Torrance. It worked well for me although it only got around 30-32 mpg but great power.

I think the pumpers were designed mainly for drag racing where extra rich mixture for off the line could be dialed in. For normal street use though the standard QS is more than adequate.
