If there are issues with some of those pics, surely we can get some of our own around here. There have been some beauts.

Or maybe all the buyers could submit pictures of their individual bikes, and those hundreds of smaller shots could be combined into a big mosaic of the Buell logo... THAT would be cool...

I'm for rider submitted bikes. What better way to celebrate 20 years than to have the poster be of real people on real bikes? Good call Reep.

Put me down for 5

I hope this doesn't sound to corny but here it goes.I would think Erik has put his signature on alot of are personal belongings, everything from are bikes to are shirts. Now lets say we also gave him a poster with various different bikes that we own and then we sign the poster have it framed and present this to him with the anniversary card.Who knows it might wind up hanging in his office or somewhere at BUELL. Just a thought.

Two please. I like the idea of owners' bike pictures but keep the RW.

DaveG, if I ever meet you I'll tell you about when I asked Erik where his RW was. When I heard the rest of the story about 3 months later it brought tears to my eyes.

If you want to frame/mat that poster, you need to put some sort of border on it. The pics are too close to the edge and would get covered by even the smallest frame. Just my opinion.

It's really great reading all the enthusiastic posts about this idea!

Now I'm gonna be a party pooper.

I actually thought about the idea of getting pictures of everyone's bikes and using those for the poster. But, the more I thought about it, I started having problems with it. First, there is just the logistics of gathering the photos, scanning them if they aren't digital and then trying to fit them all on a poster. Second, you're supposed to put your photos and signatures in the card! Trying to fit a whole bunch of photos on a poster would be pretty hard. Most of the photos would end being tiny.

Anyway, I plan on using stock photography. Probably no more than 7 or 8 photos. I would definitely include the RW and the Team Elves land speed bike.

One other idea I have is making images of the pages of the card and making a poster out of that. This would have to wait until later, maybe even after the 20th anniversary. Could even include some photos taken during the 20th annversary.

DaveGess brought up the point on the company getting "huffy". This is quite possible. After all you are creating a "Buell" poster & I am sure that it would have to be approved by the big honchos back at the mother ship. They are sticklers about a lot of issues. I would check into the legalities of it before I went any further.

I am going to send a letter to Buell and ask about the legalities of this and also ask if they would be willing to supply photos. I can't see why they would have a problem with it but I'm not printing one poster until I hear from them. I would hate to have a bunch of lawyers crawl out of the woodwork at the last minute.

>>>I am going to send a letter to Buell and ask about the legalities of this and also ask if they would be willing to supply photos.

Huh?

I think, we're "thinking" too much. Technically, Buell can have us all arrested, under the provisions of RICO, for conspiracy. We ARE planning to enter their private property and have not, yet, got permission, thus making the mere planning an offense, under the Wisconsin Statutes Annotated. I am nearly overcome with guilt.

Not one Buell (technincally HD from Michigan) attorney has spent a moment pursuing the 12 people currently selling unlicensed Buell products on e-Bay for profit. I doubt they'll be bothered by a small group of enthusiasts producing a few posters to celerate their enthusiasm.

Just our of curiousity, as a guy who's resume' includes having written sensitive letters for The White House and touchy congressional correspondence for the Commanding General of the USMC, how would you write that letter?

You've picqued my need to return to my CivPro text today, I am curious, if I were assigned the task of slappin' the overzealous Buell owners into legal compliance, WHO I'd sue, in WHAT venue, and WHAT releif I'd seek?

If you want to check, I'll be happy to call a friend at Harley-Davidson licensing and legal but, I doubt you'll ever hear a word from them. They have plenty on their plate this year.

By the way, many of the photos you see are the property of Dave Gess. I have several cases of old Buell photos and I manitain custody of 14 packages of OLD Buell pictures from the Buell Owners annual gatherings in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991.

I think between the rightful property of Dave and I you could make a poster capable of stretching from Milwaukke to Mukwonago.

Legal rights to a namestyle (i.e. the word Buell) to not convey to the holder of such rights any domain over images of the name. If so, Britany Spear's would be making a bundle for the picture in yesterday's Post of her boobies!

But using the term Super Buell XX could be construed as trademark infringement. Buell dictates how much of a percentage the words Buell & or Brag must be on a Brag clubs logo. What damn difference does it make its 10% of the logo or 25% of the logo? Obviously Buell feels there is a difference. Dennis sent in the one for the Brew city chapter & Buell shot it down because the letters werent big enough or didnt cover enough acreage:D

>>>But using the term Super Buell XX could be construed as trademark infringement.

Please tell me how. Please cite a legal precedent.

>>>Wrong. Buell, actually Harley-Davidson Corporate Communictions Group, has "Graphic Display Standards. I have a copy telling how and when the words Buell and the log may be displayed, what Pantene color they must be and how they have to be related to one another. MOST dealers (say for instance the letterhead for American Harley-Davidson) are at least 4 years out of compliance. It is NOT enforced.

Go ahead and write the letter. Who, I'm curious, do you intend to send it to and what, exactly, are you going to ask?

So I can tell Dennis just to go ahead & do the logo the way it was because Court says its ok??
I just want to clarify that. Its not the good ole days of a few buudies sitting around in a shed making a dozen bikes a yr. Its corporate & they will protect their image if need be.

Im not saying they would prosecute anyone, but they could if they wanted to. And they have a hell of a lot more money & lawyers than every damn one of us on this board put together.
