its just an updated version of toll booths. at least its user pay, verses 1 fee for all where you travel 12K a year and pay the same as the dude who puts on 30k. a simpler way i think is to just add gas tax. works out the same i think. |

"All you have to do is wrap your car/truck/motorcycle in tin-foil." You mean you haven't already? We cheapos use aluminum foil, 'cause it is easier to buy on a trip. |

Never under-estimate the tenacity of a public official with a revenue enhancement method in hand. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but next week? |

It'll come around again too, maybe in the middle of the night and get passed as a rider on another piece of legislation, kind of like other failed legislation in the past. |

One of the GPS chip manufacturers has a receiver with dead reckoning gyroscopes built in. The example video showed how it could be mounted in the glove box and still get a GPS signal and suggested it would be perfect for road tax systems. That was a few years ago. Obama nixes plan to tax motorists on mileage (AP) AP - President Barack Obama will not adopt a policy to tax motorists based on how many miles they drive instead of how much gasoline they buy, his chief spokesman said Friday. Press secretary Robert Gibbs commented after Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood told The Associated Press that he wants to consider the idea, which has been proposed in some states but has angered many drivers. |

I'd lose my job, lose the car and the bike to repo and mooch off the taxpayers if I'm extorted out of even more money to drive. It's bad enough. |

When is the next tea party?.... We get the government we deserve by doing nothing. Two centuries ago, there would have been a flipping riot and keel hauling party for this kind of tripe. |

How soon they forget.... 2 admins ago, they taxed luxury goods, like yachts, based on the classic leftist class hatred/rich envy that unfortunately, works too well. ( see results & tactics in last election. The wonder is how narrow the victory of the "hate the rich" folk was. Of course, the ones pulling the hate card were themselves rich, but they know you are stupid. They won, didn't they? ) Result? Lots of jobs lost in this country, since rich people are not stupid, & didn't get that way by paying any more than they have to. So if you want a yacht, and Uncle wants you to pay an extra million to have it made in New England, you order it from Italy. The Luxury tax to hurt the rich didn't bother them much at all. The poor guys who used to build boats or other rich kid toys, they lost their jobs forever. BTW, did you know Onstar can shut your car off by remote? They so far won't do it for the police, but that can change. |

Onstar is based of the CDMA Verizon cell network. It does not have GPS, it triangulates your position based on the cell towers. This can be slow, and does not work well or at all in areas with poor cell coverage. Also it is tied into the ECM like stated before, it can control just about anything in your car. |

Sounds like my next vehicle will be a 1979 something or other... No computers, no fuel injection, no GPS, no gubberment monitoring... Course, soon enough the gubberment will probably make it illegal to own a car like that... |

Whether you realize it or not, a large number of people that belong to this community belong to the wealth. How many TV's do you own? How many Computers? How many car, trucks or vans? How Many motorcycles do you own? Do you have a vacation home or trailer? How many acres does your home sit on? How much is your Mortgage payment? How often do you vacation? So what is wealthy?????? Most here probably are. |

2 TVs 5 PCs (2 are parts) 2 cars 2 MCs(1 wrecked and 27 years old) No and No .25 acre More than having a roomate, less than an apartment. Never I think wealthy is a relative term. I personally feel that a house hold above 200k a year is wealthy. However, someone who makes that and is stretched thin may not think so. I had a Supervisor who was damn smart. He said that Classes, ie. lower, lower middle, middle, upper middle, lower upper, upper, etc was all an illusion. If you were making payments on anything and would be affected by the economy, you weren't wealthy. |
