I just bought 3 quarts of Mobil 1 20w50 and a Purolator filter, and it costed me $40 frikkin' dollars. Does the H-D stuff cost that much? I can't remember how much I payed last time when I used the factory stuff. But holy cow, I only payed $25 for 5 quarts + filter for my Mustang, and someone else did it! I'm gonna' have to hide the receipt from my wife.... ~SM |

Mobil 1 V-twin 20W-50 was ~$8/quart for a long time, but when I bought some ~1 month ago at the only place I could find it (the local Cycle Gear store) it was $11/quart. Not sure if the oil has gone up that much or if Cycle Gear is just gouging. Running conventional oil and changing it more often is beginning to look more attractive. |

Your local autozone / advance auto have it or can get it its over 10 there last time I bought it at wally world it was over 8.00$ |

Harley Syn3 is $12.50 a quart at current prices. Appleton HD is having a sale soon, get a few quarts at 20% off. I stocked up on some during christmas sales. |

Oddly, H-D just DROPPED their prices on their oils. Syn3 went from an MSRP of $11.49 per quart to $11.29 each. 'Dinosaur' 20/50 went from $6.49/qt to $6.35/qt. Formula+ went from $8.49 to $8.35. The prices had all jumped up when oil was going crazy last year, but now that things have "settled down", they dropped it back a bit. Of course, each privately owned dealer can sell it for whatever he thinks he can get for it... So, if the store bought oil at high prices, then wholesale cost dropped, they might want to pro-rate their loss before dropping it again to market. Our local news covered a small gas station on the Illinois side of the river that bought high and was still selling for over $3, when everyone else sold at under $2. It took awhile, but worked out for the mom and pop operation. Self interest is central to human design. Lotsa folks take advantage of altruists. |

Your local autozone / advance auto have it or can get it its over 10 there last time I bought it at wally world it was over 8.00$ Oldog- the retailers around here (near Charleston, SC) are very sporadic about stocking it. The Autozone closest to me stocked it for a year or so, then quit. The one on the other side of town had ~20 cases in stock 6 months ago; when I needed some last month they were out. The local Wally World has had it once (on a close-out shelf) that I've seen it. I love the oil, but it's a PITA to be ready to change your oil and then be unable to find it. |

I buy Amsoil a case or two at a time directly from Amsoil at a very small discount. I would be happy to order some for anyone who want's to pick it up at my place in Jersey. I think it's still less than $10.00 a Qt. If anyone is interested I will look up the cost. |

Wal*Nards Mobil 1....$25.00 for 5 quarts of 15w50. I've run that all the time with no oil consumption of the 15w base oil in 26,000 miles ....between my 3 Buells. It still has the protection properties of a 50w oil with the plus being the 15w is a little better on cold start up. |

Royal Purple MaxCycle 20w50 comes out to right around $11.00/qt for me when I buy it by the case. It's an improvement over HD dino oil, but think I'll be trying a different synthetic after a few more oil changes to finish off this case. |

All my years since the 70's, dealing with engine oils professionally, I have never seen and oil related issue.......period, as long as it wasn't worn out or abused oil.Key words, worn out oil and take note, abused. A lot of factors weigh in on those two as the oil being the false cause of the root problem. Early 70's waxed base oils were no damned good for the old ladies that drove their cars two or three minutes to get the mail once a day. I've got a 1975 lawn mower,still with all it's original engine parts...... that has had the wrong oil weight in it,since it's first oil change. The key is warm up on starting and cool down before shut down. Synthetics have conditioners in the blend to keep the seals from "un swelling" . Racing or extreme duty engines,different matter.My 170K S-10 has had neart every brand and weight of oil in it and still doesn't burn any...... that can be measured by the mark on my drain pan for the every 2,000 mile change. I still never check the oil level between changes. You can be as anal as you want about oil "quality", but it's all about money.........marketing hype, getting you to use brand X as opposed to the allegedly deficient brand Y. YMMV Try to find on the Internet what the "correct oil" to use in a G80 rear axle......it has clutch plates....it's a limited slip........no it's a locker....no it's a locker with clutch plates....it needs friction modifier added.... no it will wreck it.... GM specs are not to add friction modifier.....synthetic won't work in it ..........synthetic is the best for it.......and on and on and on. |
