So, are there more Ducati dealers than Buell dealers in the U.S.? I just wonder how many dealers Buell has had and whether the number is growing or shrinking. It seems I only hear about dealerships dropping Buell, never any adding. Anyone have any numbers? |

150 Ducati dealers as near as I can figure. I don't know US sales but they manufacture easily 5 times as many bikes. "Less is more" |

The new shop that I will be at will have Buells. Of course ours will be used, low mileage units... But we are doing Buells. We will be aggressively taking trade ins and going to auctions, and in rare cases where we can buy wholesale direct from a dealer that is getting out, we will try that too. You know mine will be parked out front everyday. |

US SALES looks like Buell was 57% of Ducati sales in 2008 (4th qtr projected) and 53% in 2007. Maybe BMC is making up some ground.

That's a good question- when was the last time we got a NEW Buell dealer? We had a lot of reports of dealers dropping Buell in the last 2 or 3 years which seemed to have tapered off, until a couple in the last few days. I know we've had some existing dealers add new Buell sections to the stores, but have we had any new Buell dealers in the last 2 or 3 years? |

The sales figures are interesting, and it looks like Ducati has 150 dealerships. Still no word on the number of Buell dealers though. If I am not mistaken in my local area, the greater Tampa Bay area, most if not all the HD dealerships also sell Buell. Three (Tampa, Brandon, and New Port Richey) are owned by the same company and sell Buells. Jims and Fletchers over in Pinellas also sell Buells. Lakeland HD also sell Buells. I know there are others I am not remembering right now. In that same area we only have one Ducati dealership, EuroCycles of Tampa Bay. So, at least here Buell dealers greatly outnumber Ducati dealers. So, if Ducati almost doubles the number of bikes sold as Buell, each dealership much sell significantly more bikes. That tells me the market is there for Buell if they could just attract it. They have the market presence, just not the marketing to bring the target audience into the dealership. The thing is, EuroCycles of Tampa Bay is also a BMW dealership. BMW and Ducati attract different riders for the most part. It doesn't seem to hurt either of them to be in the same dealership. I have always wanted Buell to get out of the HD dealers, but I don't believe that will ever happen. I do think Buell can thrive even in the HD dealerships, but not with the current lack of emphasis and care that I experience at most of the dealerships I have visited. Just my .02. |

I bet the Victory dealers would love to have a 146hp sport bike to sell in their showroom. Looks like they have been doing their job according to the stats above. This is the go get em selling that Buell needs. |

Curious, why did Kawi gain? Was their KLR that popular? Buell & Victory gained, the others lost. |

Kawasaki makes (IMHO) really cheapo bikes that do the job *really* well. The KLR (both the big one and the little one), the concourse, and the sportbikes, all are solid sellers. (no offense, I own 1.5 kawasakis right now) And the Ninja 250 and 500 were probably rolling off the line as fast as they could build them. Good work by Victory, they make great bikes. |

HD should give an ultimatum to the dealers: Drop Buell, and we'll give the dealership to someone else! |

I called that store today and the xb12r's they have left, 3 midnight black 1 arctic white the cost of the 08's $8152.00 the 09's $8182.00. Dam i only have half of that right now. All they have in buell stuff..(so the counter girl says) is just shirts and jackets nothing to impressive. Oh the salesman said the dropping of the buells should be temporary (HOPEFULLY) and just at that store. I got these prices written down at work i hope i remembered them correctly |

Interesting, Aprillia didn't even make the list. Nor did MV Augusta. The real mystery though, is what about OCC? |

I'll tell you what... Buell is missing out on this area of young people who ride because they don't have a dealer within a 2hr drive. So, when I try and talk someone into it, it's like...buy one...but you have to do all the work yourself of waste the gas of trailering it there and back to get it fixed. |

Kawi released the new 250 ninja, dealerships are selling the bike out of the catalog and telling customers that they get what ever color shows up at the shop. Buell is missing out BIG time with a 8 year old Blast design. A quick cheap way to get more blast sales would be to throw the XB head/cams on the blast motor and lower the handle bars. But a redesign is needed without the impute from HD. The HD trainer bike is needed but Buell needs a bike that appeals to sportbike riders |

No surprise. They likely don't even have a measurable presence, just like Moto Guzzi. KTM is probably only listed since they have such a solid dirt bike base which make up probably 90%+ of their total bike sales. |

HD should give an ultimatum to the dealers: Drop Buell, and we'll give the dealership to someone else! They tried something similar once. It worked out really bad. What you see now is HD allowing the dealers that don't want to carry Buell to leave. It's much better. |

I meant give the Buell dealership to someone else; They can keep the HD stealership and sell GeezerGlides 'til they go bankrupt. |

Don't hold your breath. Even with a 16.5% drop in sales, HD and HD dealerships are still very profitable. |

You're telling me Harley already tried taking dealerships away from owners that wouldnt sell Buell? I find that hard to believe. I dont have enough information to have an opinion on whether or not that would be a good idea by Harley but I seriously doubt they would have had difficulty finding replacement owners back before the economy collapsed. Harley dealerships were gold mines up until recently. |
