Hi, This past Friday, I joined the ranks of Buell owners. My Buell is a 1999 X-1 Lightning with 2005 miles on it. After this weekend, its got 2200 miles. The bike is completely stock except for the Supertrap muffler. I've heard that the '99 model had a few problems with the fuel injection. Any ideas on how to correct that? I've heard to replace the ECM with a race version. The only problem that I've noticed is a slight surging. Is there any way of remapping the ECM or will an ECM out of a new model work? I really don't push the bike hard, so I'm not looking for any major power increases. I would just like to fine tune it. I live in Clearwater/Tampa Florida, so I ride all year round. Any ideas on keeping the rear cylinder cool? I saw the fan Buell offers. Is it worth the money? As for me, I'm a returning college student at St. Leo University. I work in the Financial Aid department at St. Petersburg College. I've been riding since 1989. I started with a 1987 Ninja 250, very good bike to learn on. After that I went to a 1985 Ninja 600, 1993 Katana 750,and a 1986 Yamaha Radian 600. The only other bike I still own is the Radian. The only wreck I've had was on the 250 Ninja. A cut-off and dismount at 50mph. Luckily, I had all the safety gear on and only put a rip in the glove. Anyways, I look forward to hearing more about everyone. Danny Oliver |

Well welcome to the group. If you take Your bike to a dealer they will be able to zero the TPS for you and that should cure your surging. Make sure you take it to a dealer with a dyno and they will be able to Dyno tune it. As for the fan I fell it isn't worth it cause it just points at the intake manifold but I am sure you will get alot of differnt oppinions on this board. Welcome again and enjoy your new X1. |

Hey Danny, the combination of the fan & an oil cooler will certainly help down here in tropical Florida. I put a Spurgin oil cooler on mine & it has helped dramatically. I have no experience with the fan, but I would think that it would help quite a bit in slow moving traffic. There is an active group in your area & Lakeland. Take a look at TABOO under the Storm Fronts section of Badweather. They are planning a ride to Daytona for Biketoberfest. Dave |

Welcome to the world of Buell and the BBS! I'd recommend the race ECM since it's already got a pipe on it you are probably running a little lean. The race ECM is WELL worth the $$$. Feel free to call me direct if you have any specific questions. Again welcome. Ride to the edge! Dave HD/Buell Cycle Center 4022 Sergeant Rd Waterloo Ia 50701 1-800-342-7539 ext 14 |

If you get an oil cooler, make sure it is one with a bypass and thermostat (like the above mentioned spurgin I believe). Otherwise, it slows the bike from warming up... |

The fan was designed to cool the intake on DDFI bikes bound for Japan, but it still washes air all over the engine. I have both oil cooler and fan and am happy with the results. If you have taken off the air scoop for the rear cylinder, be sure to get the S3 fan, as it has a Pegasus on the grill. The X1 fan is plain. |
