Exactly what do Americans still make, other than pickups and SUVs? What do we produce besides paperwork?

When someone in Germany wants to do an internet search, I bet they use Google.

When someone in Germany wants to sell something to other Germans, I bet they buy ads from Google.

Not everything that you can produce is a physical thing.

Also, if you take something like an iPod, I don't know where it is assembled, somewhere on the pacific rim probably. And there is a sticker on it that says something like "made in Malasia." However, what makes the iPod valuable is not the collection of electronic components, but the software to make it do something. That software also written all over the world, but a good fraction of it is produced here. It pays good money too.

Nowhere on the iPod will it say "Made in the USA." But when someone in Japan buys one, a lot of that money is paying the salaries of people in Cupertino.

We build plenty of buildings here. I don't expect to see many 40 story hotels on American soil that say "made in China" on the bottom. Err, yet.
}

They just buy them. So built by us, owned by them and UAE.

We are even selling off highways as I understand it.

How much do we owe China? How dependent have we become on them? No China= no Walmart...then what would we do....act the way we did before walmart??

No easy answers but lots to think about.

BTW- Ipod was clever, they say "Designed by Apple in California, assembled in China."

They have to declare the China part, clever to add the designed in Cali part.

It's not where it's made that bothers me as much as how. The better companies will use there own QC people and hold the sneeky chinese gov. offcials at arms lenghth, do not commit to anything monetarily until all that can be done is done, When possible. The other countries are not that much better either the average worker no matter where they are will do what they can get away with. The Communist officials I have seen take the cake it truly is dog eat dog with those little dudes.
Im no know it all I just am tired of getting things that are sub par.
And I hate friggen job quota's even more
but there appears to be nothing we can do about either problem.

I would never buy a Triumph that was not made in England, as I would never buy a Buell that was not (at least...) put together in the USA. Just like all of my whiskey is made in Kentucky, I think certain things should come from certain places.
One can not blame Mr. Bloor for what he does, he did bring a nameplate back to life for cris sakes. But, if HD and/or Buell ever moved offshore I'd have to say say see ya.

One thing I hate about the whole situation is that these companies KNOW that their product will be counterfeited when made in China.

They make it there anyway and then the FBI wastes time and money protecting the companies (and us) by chasing the counterfeit stuff.

These companies should be paying the bill on that one, not taxpayers.
