Ok a little help here people...

My 2007 Firebolt had a mishap this morning and I need a little help with some info. I have heard many good and some bad situations pop up from trying to get Warranty work done on our bikes... well it is my turn. here is what happened...

Will my 2 year warranty cover ELECTRICAL FIRES!!!???!!! I went to start my bike today, and the starter clicked.... like a dead battery.. which I thought was odd, so I hit the starter again just to verify... it clicked again but then started... when all of the sudden I saw smoke from 3 locations on my bike, looked under my seat and there was a FLAME!!!! really defines a FIREBOLT!!!

I know I have a 4 pin connector under my seat that one wire is toast (the one that caught fire), it can be seen in the small gap in the tail section just under the seat.

Here is the problem.. the bike STILL RUNS!!! All be it, I am NOT riding it... scares the poo out of me now...

I have a good feeling it was a loose negitive connection, but I never knew it would start a fire... I need help here people...

Fire bolts are not suppose to catch on fire kind of a safety issue their I would say that would fall under warranty if you tell your dealer what you just said they will probably send a truck out to pick it up for repairs.

Warranty covers the whole bike except normal wear items, like tires.

You CAN get that fixed under warranty. Probably end up getting you a new wiring harness. Ask your dealer.

I'd be concerned that now your wiring system is vulnerable to the elements - dust/rain.

Get your dealer to work with you. Hopefully they are good people and give a sh*t - otherwise you'll probably have to be on the phone to customer service.

Blackbelt,
Does your bike have any hard wired electrical devices installed?
Devices connected to the power sockets should not matter, as the circuit is fused.

Yes: You might encounter some resistance from your servicing dealer with regard to diagnosis and repair. Up front diagnosis money may be requested before work starts. (at least that's how it was done when I wrenched at dealers.)

No: Should be no problem, except the waiting to get-r-done...

If the fire is traced to a faulty factory wiring harness or connection, yes, you should be covered with no question.

If the fire is traced to a user-installed electrical component or connection...it's gonna be a pissing contest.

From your description, it sounds like a factory connection. Take it to the dealer and have them take a look at it.

I have no add ons in the electrical department... just the Special Ops pipe... so we should be good.. I hope. The Buell Customer Service said yes it is a Safety/Warranty issue, and informed me to talk to a dealer.. The said dealer is picking the bike up Monday @ 12:30, So looks like i will be bikeless for a while.. SUCKS!!

Blackbelt, you got one smokin' Firebolt there! Please keep us updated on progress.Sounds to me like a +wire may have been pinched somewhere to ground then active when key/starter on.Good luck.

Yikes! There are likely only two unfused wires on the whole bike - the starter feed and the main feed to the fusebox. Did the starter get pinched in the seat or something?

Answer the questions.

Still all origonal, only add ons I have are the windscreen, and the muffler is a Special Ops... everything else is bone stock. Battery has never been touched but to charge in March, never been removed or the screws on the poles even been loosened up.

All I know is it is gonna get fixed... I hope. I wanted to see if I could get a loaner bike, but that was shot down... bummer there

I'm not sure what the guy on the right is doing but it's disturbing.

OH!

Is that the whammy bar on his air guitar?
