I'm a tall skinny guy - clothes are hard to find. I read all these magazine ads for riding jeans and the like, but when I go to the web sites they don't have anything longer than about a 34 inseam. Is there anyone out there who's got the same issues, done the research, and can point me to companies that sell off-the-rack riding and rain gear to fit size 32 waist + 38 inseam? While we're at it, how about jackets for the guy with 37-inch arms? My problem here is that I'm fairly high-waisted, so all the "big and tall" jackets I try on have waistbands that are below my butt cheeks. Call Aerostich. I ordered one of their suits, it ended up being too small, so i wrote them about how it felt, where it was tight, etc. I gave them my measurements and they are sending me a size that will fit better. If that dosen't fit great, they offer tailoring to adjust the suit to my needs. They are a little expensive, but the suits are top notch and service is awesome. | ||

"off-the-rack" you must be kidding. Most don't even go to 36 inseam. You might as well just get it over with, and go to Aerostich, or Motoport, and get custom-made. Or Bates, if you want leather. | ||

I thought I was the only one with the 37" Orangutan arms ! I can scratch my knee without hardly bending. I have to buy everything too big just to get it to fit my arm length so there's usually enough room left in the shirt to invite Pamela Anderson in.  | ||

I'm with ya. From shoulder seam, to the top of my wrist is 24 inches, and I have a 34 inch inseam. Using those two measurements, according to the riding gear makers I should have a 40 inch waist, not 30. One day I'll get a suit made, either from www.syedleathers.com or www.batesleathers.com as soon as funds allow that is... | ||

Shoot all the companies the same email letter and see what they respond with. Often, you need to consider custom - or buying "off the rack" and then having them altered. Problem is leathers being altered will be $250-$500 (depending on work) - and custom set will be $1500 (give or take) - so often you're going to be on the hook for almost as much $$$ in either case. Check ebay, Newenough, Craigslist, etc and consider paying $200-$300 for a set of leathers and then another $250-$500 for alterations. I'm a kinda-tallish but NO upper body person. My first set of leathers were bought used and I had them taken in in the shoulders and chest/arms. About $250 + $400 to get a set that fit perfectly. Buy BIG so the guys doing the alterations are only slitting/cutting - and not ADDING material. Much cheaper. (Message edited by slaughter on March 21, 2008) | ||

All I know is my wait is between a 32 and 34 for everything I buy. I just got a pair of vanson sport rider pants in a size 34 to be safe. They fit tighter than anything I can remember, and the boys are a bit crowded. Bending my hips to get in the riding position is almost painful - the pressure put across the front of my waist is extreme. I'm hoping they'll break in and losen up. I just sat with them on the couch for a while last night and things are aldready getting better. I remember HATING my vason jacket when I first got it, now I love the thing. I hope the same is true here. | ||

I'd send a note to the manufacturer to ask if they can alter the synthetic. Since nearly all are manufactured in China, Pakistan or somwhere in South America, your chances of getting factory alterations are limited - but Aerostitch is supposedly pretty responsive (so I've heard). Well I just notice you live in Texas, so I'd suggest Motoport, instead of Aerostich. The 'stich likely too warm. Motoport custom makes everything to size, so whatever shape you are won't be a problem. They're not that much more than 'off-the-rack' either, depending on what style of suit you get. I have one of their Kevlar mesh jackets and man is it a tough, as in rugged, jacket. Feels like a bullet-proof t-shirt, the airflow is just amazing, 95 degress, no problem. Great stuff, I'm buying the matching pants, I like it so much. I have 2-pc Aerostich for cool/rainy weather, and a MotoWear suit for warm but not hot weather. Boy am I suited for anything, love the sensation of riding with pads on all the contact points, just in case. I almost never wear my leather jackets anymore. http://www.aerostich.com/catalog/US/Roadcrafter-p- 1-c-249.html Take a look at the two piece roadcrafter. At 6'7" 185lbs I was able to buy off the rack and it fits pretty decent. If you want to go the extra mile they do custom sleeve and leg lengths. If you're long in the torso you can add the "elipse" between the jacket and pants to open things up. Top notch stuff and worth the $. I've had mine for 13 years. Kurt |
