It is in my manual. Fork oil change, not a rebuild.

I will try to get some images/page #'s.

But if you gotta show them, your in trouble.

It appears, you are paying for some one to practice on your bike.

Yeah it is cheap when you do it. But labor at the dealer is a set time amount.
IE a dealer may charge you 6 hours of labor to do both forks when in all reality it takes a skilled mechanic 2 to do it.

GMD Computrack charges $150 to dismantle/reassemble both forks. The parts are already removed during the process so replacement is only parts.I can(have done) do it myself but,at $150. i've been letting the professional do it..twice now.

However...they're just 20 minutes away from ME

Hmmm, my last posting seems to have been deleted. Here it is from memory --

Barker: If you could provide me with a page number from the Service Manual, I'd appreciate it. I'll try looking for it again tonight but tonight is the District Pre-Sanctioning meeting (where all the AMA Chartered Clubs in the District hash out next year's event calendar before the official sanctioning meeting next month) so I suspect I'll be home late and exhausted.

Thanks.

Update: Looks like DucX1 has the ticket. According to the tech, the Buell forks do not have a drain plug like the Harley forks (nor the bikes I'm most familiar with). In order to drain the fork, they remove the tubes, collapse them and pour out the oil. As long as all that work has already been done, they replace the seals as a matter of course, since the labor would have been done regardless of whether or not the seals were replaced.

As he pointed out, it makes no sense to NOT replace the seals at this point, that way you always know the seals are fresh.

I did double check over the weekend and there is nothing in the factory service manual for simply draining the forks. It looks like it is a "big deal" compared to other bikes I've worked on myself.

Naturally, they're still waiting for the seals to arrive.

That was one of the first films at college I was required to watch(Not including the Sex Ed. film)

pete

That takes me back 30 years or so.

Just change the fork fluid yourself.

Well, we have a winner in the club's pool. The bike is ready to be picked up. It was in for a total of 11 days. Two parts had to be ordered (the seals and the battery bracket) and both were ordered and delivered in a timely manner (as far as I'm concerned, anyway). Unfortunately, the bike is no longer under warranty, and the extended warranty did not cover the bracket, but it was inexpensive enough that it's no biggie.

I won't get to pick it up till tomorrow (I have tickets to see my niece perform in her High School play tonight and that takes precedence). All in all, not too long a wait (about par for course on Long Island regardless of brand). I'll know for certain tomorrow how WELL it was done but for now I'm satisfied; no complaints.
