I went to the Seattle Auto Show today and I came upon a display for Downtown HD.

They were kind enough to bring along a few buells (4 of them). I thought it was a bit strange to see them at an auto show, but the orange race bike was drawing plenty of attention.

The race bike had a tag on it for $17k (If I remember correctly).

The Seattle Auto Show is the one I kind of "borrowed" (depends on your version of taking a display bike out of 3700 Juneau, down an elevator, loading it on a trailer and taking it to Seattle . . . . after the marketing folks tell you "we don't have a bike for display" . . Yeah . . I stole the one from their office) a NEW S-1 l Lightning for and took the Seattle show.

The local Buell owners, both of them, had a wonderful party for me at some place called Queen Ann Hill or something.

Great times!

Court: You're the kind of guy we all wish we knew well, but sort of secretly are glad we don't know you TOO well. Good job getting the word out. Without people willing to do a little, um, borrowing, Buell would still be in the garage working on the RS 2000 or whatever. That would not make me, or others on this board, very happy.

>>>Without people willing to do a little, um, borrowing,

Precisely the reason The White House hired me in 1983 . . .to quote Bob Athey "we need someone who can come up with a marching band with an hours notice on Sunday morning".

: )

It's been fun.

Was that the S1 you used to do the "spontaneous stunter show" in front of the bus load of Japanese tourists?

Oh that cell phone cameras and YouTube had existed back then : ) : ) : )

Mike, I have seen it before. The bike has been sitting on DHD floor for sometime. I think it is an 05.

As for the pipe it is a repurposed carbon fiber pipe with a custom header.

I am not sure where they got it, but I know Kevin (their Buell tech) did most of the work on that bike.
From what I remember it has just about every go fast part in it, or on it.

If you really curious, call Downtown HD, and ask for Kevin. He can tell you all about it.

oh sumnabiatch, that looks like an out from under the bike alternative... I missed it in the shadows. I need to see that bike up close and personal. Thanks for the catch MikeXLR650. Check out my plight in the "exhaust" thread ;)

I've seen a bike similar to the one DHD had there, Hal's built it in 03 and I own it now.
I'd bet my motor is a little more "breathed on" too Terry G rocks!

Sharkskinz makes the bodywork, but it is only available through Hal's speed shop halspa.com
(the buell link was down last time I checked though) Contact BudC and he can help you get
everything you need to build one of these:

No, I don't have a pipe on the side of my bike though, and wouldn't want one! I don't play in the
mud like cityxslicker does...

Just a little inside info on the Orange buell. . .

It is Orange on one side, Black on the other, parted by a white stripe. The bike was built in memory of Russ Thom, departed former owner of DHD. The gang there are Buell supporters. Russ was a road racer, and loved the Buell bikes. The bike carries Russ' racing paintjob & number. Similar to the one Hal's did? Sure, I mean, it is Hal's body kit. DHD's bike also has a custom one-off exhaust system that you have to see. it's really cool looking on this bike. They also added a lot of engine mods to it, so it is far from stock.

Remember, support the shops that support us. To me, building custom Buells is as much support as you could ask from them.

By the way, I've sat on it at the DHD shop, the bike is way cool. If you go there, talk to Ronel, tell him Tim & April said hi! Not only is Ronel the Seattle HOG chapter president, he is one of their leading sales guys, and he loves the entire Buell line.

On my way back tonight I rolled by DHD to get better photos of the custom XBR exhaust. Please excuse the low quality photos, as they were taken with my phone.

As you can see I don't under stand why they would want to do this. The only thing I can think of is heat. The thick pipe running from the headers to the carbon fiber exhaust takes up nearly as much room as a stock pipe. It looks like they were forced to hang the custom connector pipe down about and 1.5 inches. So I don't see any ground clearance gained, so you off road guys may need to look elsewhere.
