Can anyone explain the differences in the engine from a M2 and a S1W? Cams, Header pipe diameter, heads? Just wondering since I had one pull me on the top end yesterday (and can't let that happen again |

The M2 has Thunderstorm heads... otherwise, stock sporty... The S1W.... Lightning cams.... adn I have seen some with T-storm heads.... Basically, the S1W/X1/S3 had more top end, than the M2..... Dont want it to happen again? 1250, "D" or N4 cams, Better header.... and go from there... Oh yeah, I KNOW the X1 had a 27 tooth front pulley.... Not too sure baout the S1... The M2 had a 29 if I am not mistaken... Chase |

Maybe we should start a collection for horsepower junkies? (Message edited by wile_ecoyote on July 23, 2007) |

Lightning cams.... adn I have seen some with T-storm heads.... All the 98 S1Ws were built with the Thunderstorm heads, cams, and pistons. The standard S1 (with small fuel tank) came with Sporty heads and cams. For a "before and after" comparison: I just put a complete Thunderstorm setup in my S2. Thunderstorm heads and pistons in .005" over, and the "15" grind cams, and the Buell "race" ignition box. Now that I have the timing right (the PO had a ton of advance built in on the stock motor)...wow. First time I've had a tuber that tries to power the front wheel up on its own when I snap a hard 1-2 shift. And I want to doublecheck them in my hand first, but I think the D cams are what I took out of the bike. Aren't they stock Sporty cams? |

I will double check the lettering... The more I think about it, the more I am thinking thats inaccurate... never really bothered learning harley's cam ID system... Chase} |

To be technical, the 91 and up cams are actually "W" cams, though, there were some marked "D".... The "D" cam is from the 86-90 sporty... So, I stand corrected... Chase} |

The 1998 s1 does not have sportster heads or cams, but had screaming eagle heads and cams for a total of 91 hp some 50% more power than a stock 1200 sporty |

More clarification ... The only difference I believe between the S1W and 99 and up M2's was the cams ... Pre 99 M2's had the Sporty heads .. same cams in all M2's .. M2 cams make for a ton of torque down low, but leave much to be desired up top ... For the street - combined with the T-storm heads in the 99+ models - they are great though. |

Nope, neither the M2 nor S1 where fuel injected... 99 and up S3, and the X1 were injected... Chase |
