Today decided to upgrade the front exhaust hanger. When I undid the top bolt the front spring mount rotated, so it no longer lines up. Bike is on a rear stand, wheel is off the ground. Is there a trick so I can get it lined up and back together? Other than hanging the bike from the rafters. Thanks |

You need to get the weight off the rear end so that you can unbolt the front mount of the rear shock. If you can hang it from the rafters, great, lots of people do that. I think you were probably kidding about that as a solution to your problem, but that is a solution. The other is to use a rear stand that uses the footpegs as a lift point. If your stand uses the swingarm, you'll need to use the suspend-from-the-rafters method. |

No I wasn't joking about the rafters, just trying to avoid it. Thanks |

Hope it's not redundant, but here's some hopefully helpful insight here. Good thing you started with the top bolt and didn't get hurt or damage anything! 1313 |

If rafters are not easily accessible I use a tall step ladder as an "A-frame" over the rear of the bike and suspend it from the ladder. |

I use jack stands under the footpeg mounts. |

I've got an engine hoist, that should work. Do I need to have the front on a stand, or is it ok sitting on the front tire? |

It's OK on the front tire. It will wobble a bit, but since the back end is held up by the top of the frame, it can't really fall over. WeBuells wobble, but they don't fall down. |

Make sure you disconnect the battery prior to any work around the front mount for your rear shock!!!!! |

Any particular reason? |

You'll be shorting to ground around the VR, that's why! |

My VR seems to be under the seat. Is that not normal? |

Normal. Later tubers have it near the forward rear shock mount. |

My S2 and S1W have it near the battery. Have to get the 98 S3 Defender out from under its tarp to see where it's VR is... |

Have to get the 98 S3 Defender out from under its tarp to see where it's VR is... At the front of the motor, between the front shock mount and front muffler mount. At least that's where it is on my 98 S3 Defender (and all the other 98 S3's), 1313 |
