well i broke the main sharft of my stock shock maybe 3 weeks back? ans got a guy here in Australia that had new seals in stock & other service parts for the stock shock. but when he dismantled it main sharft was broke no replacement but i found a new in box M2L stock replacement shock. well i just fitted it it has lowered the rear slightly & feels like belt adjustment tighter.
what is correct adjustment?

Belt adjustment is generally measured as "too tight", "scary loose", and "too loose"

"Too tight" means the belt is tight at max movement in the arc.

"Too loose" means your belt is slipping cogs.

Pick something in between, you want a little play in it at max arc or you are loading up the final drive bearings too much and they will fail prematurely.

The mid-point of the lower run of my belt has deflection of 2.25 to 2.5 inches, as I measured today.

Scary loose sort of looks like it might jump off the front pulley. But it doesn't.

Thanks, i asked a friend that raced an X1 when they were new & used to ride interstate on it to race. as he adjusted it before & thats been trouble free. he mentioned not to have it too tight. he told me ride it over his place today so i'll do that now & find out what it feels like with the 15" shock. this will be in heavy traffic so probably feel better.
felt like it is set firm so will just leave it set as it came

it was too tight had to loosen it, as M2L shock about 1/4" longer. i like it i was riding all day, i will be quicker @ the drag strip too . corners ok, i'm happy. will be riding with two friends on saturday into the mountains they have XB's only 09 Uly the other 07 SST Lightning

Yesterday I got to ride it all day on some twisty bumpy roads in mountains, with two friends on xb's & the shock works a lot better, the old one that broke must have been in poor shape. So far so good, also I went past the two xb's in some tight corners very happy how well it handles now.

Keep an eye on the new old shocks front body wiper. When it gets brittle and starts to break is when you will get dirt in and the seal will start to leak. This is a weak point on the shock. Other than that it is really not a bad shock at all. I'm thinking that a rubber dust boot over the front of the shock would be of great benefit.

Thank you for that info Jim I'll look into doing that, the bike feels so much better now I love it, might buy another shock same keep as spare
